I first listened to marquee moon as a 16 year old. Spent days and years trying to learn guitar and bass and then realised I wasn't a musician. I was looking through. Y music the day before Tom Verlaine died. My wife said " what are putting on?" I answered. " feels like a Television night." Next morning he was gone from this earth, but he has not gone away 😢.
I'm obsessed with each and every one of these songs. Thank you Alvvays, you came at a time when I wasn't able to connect with music much because of the things I'm currently facing. But thank you. You saved me.
[Verse 1] Looking back, I should have known All the nights that I spent out in space If in fact I had said no What becomes of this? It's hard to say [Bridge] I'll feel better with the breeze on my back And I'll sleep better knowing it's in the past [Verse 2] Looking back, I should have known All the nights that I spent in outer space Cigarettes and old regrets piled in a stack Out in the back of my brain [Chorus] When you walk away Better be for good [Verse 3] I put my money on a horse Who won't be steered on any course or lane And if I ever see a dime You'd take that money to divide and separate [Chorus] When you walk away It better be for good [Bridge] I know you'll be there in the rain Glowing like the first night, telling me you've changed I know you'll be there in the rain Glowing like the first night, trying to explain [Chorus] That when you walk away It's gonna be for good You were my Tom Verlaine Just sitting on the hood

“Alex Chilton” was really about Alex Chilton. This is a cool song but doesn’t have anything to do with Tom Verlaine or Television. Alvvays doesn’t even sound like they are influenced by Television. It’s a nice tip of the hat, though.
Theyve been referencing a few bands since the last album. Jamc, tvps, Cocteau twins (slightly). This one seems like it's the primitives, mbv, and television. 😁 To me at least.
Please tell me, I don't understand what kind of tribute you are writing about and the reference in this song on the album, I'm not an English-speaking person and it's hard for me to understand.

The lead singer has a great voice, in fact the whole band does, but all their vocals sound washed out so you cannot hear the lyrics. In fact the whole band sounds washed out, you cannot hear the individual instruments. Their songs also do not often have perceptible bridges and choruses. For the high level of talent this band has, I just sort of wish they would utilize it in a more traditional musical way. Maybe some guitar licks from Tim Pierce and a different producer with a different angle? Calling Rick Beato. The dream sound is a cool experiment but move on please.
Have you considered that all these things you've mentioned hold appeal for people who enjoy this genre? The washed out vocal and instrumentation of shoegaze/dream pop is what people like about them so much
lol no I'm good. this is fucking sublime, makes my head tingle . and what you want them to snort a bunch of coke and put out some crappy Rumours-type "masterpiece"? somehow I don't think thats in the cards. thank God . Up shoegaze sir! This is for Smiths and Cocteau Twins lovers haha
How does a band manage to make three albums that are all perfect?! Love you guys so much, Alvvays.
guess you could say they're... alvvays perfect
Today we lost Tom Verlaine. He will never be forgotten.
what's up... yeah...

Always is a great track on the Tom Verlaine album from 1981 Dreamtime. " The Best Kept Secret In Town "
Whoa
Maybe that's where Alvvays got their name from! :D

[Verse 3]
I put my money on a horse
Who won't be steered on any course or lane
And if I ever see a dime
You'd take that money to divide and separate
[Chorus]
When you walk away
It better be for good
[Bridge]
I know you'll be there in the rain
Glowing like the first night, telling me you've changed
I know you'll be there in the rain
Glowing like the first night, trying to explain
[Chorus]
That when you walk away
It's gonna be for good
You were my Tom Verlaine
Just sitting on the hood
RIP Tom Verlaine
Tom, You were my Tom Verlaine.
Rest in Peace legend.
This song is the lloyd to my verlaine
this is the best song on the album. big love
Love the glide guitar and the solo after the last chorus. Can't tell if it's Molly or a guitar. Or both. It just blends so well. Great track
RIP Tom 2023

Your hard work is paying off. This album is great.
RIP Tom Verlaine
That ending transition to clean/acoustic guitars is PERFECT!
Television is a great band
Just wait, this whole record is gonna be plagued with comments like this
why? Are the other songs named after members of Television?
It's like when the Replacements had the song 'Alex Chilton'

If the outro is from an accoustic demo, I want to hear it before the 20 years anniversary reissue! It sounds so good!
This song has already made a bittersweet impact in music.
R.I.P. Tom Verlaine! 🥺😭🖤

Not sure how I'm going to make the 4 hour drive to my show next month, but each song's making me want to do it more and more lol

wow
Lovely.
Tom Verlaine's solo work soundscaping is amazing. Alvvays is great too!
maybe it's my anxiety, but I'm not finding these songs as good as the previous works. In any case, it remains one of the best bands today.
Every single one of them is a grower, but once you get into them you can't go back
Also listen to them on a good sound system and LOUD
I'm with you.
Ya at first i was like its whatever but then i kept on listening it over and fell in love idk what it was but its there best album to me
Trust me. Stick with it. I felt like that about a lot of the album at first but now I can literally stick it on repeat and think it’s their best work
