Dealing with an addiction and confronting life long emotional habits is a process. It all comes when the person is ready. There is an element of self-discovery that guides the path. Circumstances can force people to speed up the process (sickness, incarceration, legal problems, financial problems, failed relationships, etc) but ultimately it's about the self-discovery. I can relate due to similar issues (definitely not food addiction though). I'm in my 30s and it's terrifying to 1st recognize your only way of dealing with life is not normal or healthy. That first step can take yearssss even with professional help. I'm not even there yet.
