I have done some trips with a pillion, friends, as organized tours with people I'd not know previously. I have done 60+ day rides on my own. Alone you are not a threat to anyone, you're the vulnerable one. People in some cultures offer you kindness, hospitality. That as a group, you could miss out on. The increased risk of robbery, is only slightly higher. You can get lonely! The smallest issue on a cold wet day, in the middle of nowhere, with numb fingers. Can feel so much more disheartening, alone. Likewise, when you find fabulous views, after ridding a fantastic piece of road. Alone, you might only have your motorcycle to share that "Wow look at that" Moment. I rode the ACT Pyrenees with my oldest friend this summer. Celebrating 50 yrs of being mates, his Dad introduced us to motorbikes. It was great, being with my friend, drinking beer and meeting/ bonding with like-minded groups, also following the ACT. I would also go back in a heart beat, on my own to do the route again or take a group. In another film, Jamie talked about the differences and compromises in your campsite routines. My mate is always kit on, astride his bike 10 mins before me. Often with his keys in his pocket. On your own, you dictate your day. Humans are natural explorers, adventurers, travellers, we excel at being sociable and sharing our lives.
What a great summary David. I agree, there are pros and cons to each. I'll confess, I'm starting to enjoy riding alone more now, but it's almost certainly better when we ride as a pair. Thanks for the comment 😎👍🏻
I had to smile when you mentioned the ambulance coming for you. I work as a Paramedic in Northumberland and I have to say we’re advised not to even drive onto a rugby field if you can help it. The reality is, in remote areas, we look for support from mountain rescue. A voluntary team that takes a long time to assemble. If it’s serious, Helimed might get involved, but in our area, they only travel in daylight and can’t land in bad weather. Worth keeping in mind. Saying all that, I often ride on my own and I really enjoy it. I ride with other people too and enjoy that. It’s just different and you’ve got to approach it differently. Enjoying your content 👍
Hey Eddie, what a great perspective on the subject. Its all about measured risk I suppose and understanding when the risk starts to impact the enjoyment of the solo adventure. Thanks 👊🏻😎
Adventure is always better with friends - but sometimes when it goes wrong you can end up on your own. Good to know that feeling so you know how to deal with it. Great video
Great content and sound advice which rings true with me. I wouldn’t be comfortable on my own as I lack confidence if stuff went wrong. Prefer company! Keep up the good stuff and HNY👍
Perhaps it's confidence Gareth, but I sometimes think it's more about our appitite for risk and the mess around factor. To break down on your own (in UK at least) or fall of is a pain, with a mate however, it can actually be funny! Cheers for the support as ever mate 👊🏻😎
Excellent video good topic. One positive with solo riding is you don’t have anybody else to be a liability in case they get a flat tire or they have engine trouble or even worse get injured. The key is to have proper tools tire irons, navigation supplies etc and know exactly where you are. There are certain nav devices that can call for help in an emergency ( Garmin) Cheers mate Allan USA
Hey Allan. I never considered it from the perspective of feeling a level of responsibility for the other rider before 🤷🏻♂️, I guess I just assume that role of helper/medic is a given if you're out with someone. It's absolutely the right thing to have the correct tools and provisions with you regardless however, you're right on the money with that one 👊🏻😎. Ride safe man 👍🏻
Solo, due to personal experience I don’t want to carry the feeling of responsibility for anyone I’m riding with. And two wheels for me ,is me time. I ride with my own thoughts, that way it doesn’t feel like riding on your own!
Hey Jamie, great to get the other view on the matter! I never considered the feeling of responsibility. Perhaps its because we're both relatively confident 🤷🏻♂️. It's an interesting point nonetheless. Also, totally get the need for time by yourself. You ever been caught out somehow, riding alone?
@@lightweightadv yes, my last ride out last year I binned it on the road! Thankfully bike and myself came off ok, and was able to ride home after bending gear lever and hand guard back! I am a confident rider, however was out with my bro years ago and he came off his bike, made a real mess of himself. I had no involvement but still witnessing it had its effects on me and I felt some responsibility and that’s my reason for preferring solo rides 👍🏼 Each to their own and that’s the beauty of bike life 😄
Ah man, sorry to hear that. Yeah, that's gonna change your perspective 😕. You're absolutely right, the biking community is made up of all sorts of folk that take different things from it...thats why it rocks. Ride safe dude 👍🏻
Happy to ride on my own, but also like riding with up to a couple of mates ... but bloody hate riding in big groups, off road or on road ! Off to Peaks to do some TET around Three Shires on Saturday, on the CRF2fiddyL, and for rides that are a bit knarly like this, then it makes absolute sense to not be alone.
Yep, I'm the same as you, anything over 3 is a crowd typically. However, we did a weekend in the Pennines with 6 of us and I actually really enjoyed it. I guess for travel/adventure, small groups, so a day laning, perhaps more 🤷🏻♂️
The vid remind's me of the prudential advert...."We want to be together" :-) Seriously, I'm in agreement with everything you said in the vid, maybe with more experience I'll be happy to go out on my own, but for me its the social side.
Hi, thanks for the comment, were have actually tested this recently and have a video on it that will be released this weekend, but in short the bike can take 2 👌

That's actually a really good point, Nick. Having the knowledge of how to fix/repair and treat yourself is good individual planning. Great points 😎.

Yeah, experience makes it safer I suppose, but it never replaces having your mates with you! 😎👍🏻
Usually ride on my own but did come off and break some ribs once 🤕 Luckily was able to limp home about 10 miles..........👍
😳 Ouch! An injury like that focuses the mind! I bet picking up the bike straight after was a real treat 👌🏻
@@lightweightadv Amazing what you can do with the adrenaline pumping.
Used to enjoy kickin a road bikes head in on my own ... weirdly I don't want to ride the lanes on my own .
Ah, now this is a thing! On the way road, solo is quite a nice place to be. Off road however....🤔
Great vid Mark, if your a bit of a twat like me, solo trips is all you generally get, 🤦♂️😁
Should of gave me a shout
I will gladly laugh when you fall off and film your breakdowns
Haha, you'll get your chance!
He’d rather ride on his own 😂
I love this bike and how it looks!! do you think it´s possible to take the wife for a coffee ;) ? have you tried? cheers
