- 5/16/23- starting a new multi part series on a vintage Slingerland 1 piston bugle. This has been in penetrating oil for the better part of 5-7 months. Still very difficult to get things to move. But all is well and now on to everything else.

I always look forward to your videos Mr. Lee. You are a true craftsman.
I always love long term project like this. Looking forward to seeing the process.
Awesome videos can’t wait to see more thank you for sharing! You are truly an artist, craftsman and fantastic teacher!
So enjoy watching you work on these instruments. Thanks for sharing!
Fun restoration to watch. Can’t wait for part 2!
You do such amazingly beautiful work.
I don't understand how your clients can afford the time & effort you spend on a single instrument.
Some people take out loans for sports cars. Others invest in the arts.
I'm binging this series.
i love that little valve on it
Just wanted to say thank you for your content and contributions to your craft
You always amaze me with your repair knowledge. Looking forward to the next step on this instrument.
A pleasure, as usual, to see you working your magic on these instruments. I look forward to seeing the progress on this particular instrument in future instalments!
WES, GREAT START AND GREAT VIDEO...I'M READY LET'S GO TO WORK...SEE YOU WHEN...
It’s a very satisfying sound when all your careful efforts work out and the pieces separate.
OMG, the sound of that slide coming out... sounded like a guy i used to have renting the apartment upstairs every weekend. Creaky bed and no box spring. hahaha
Old time drum corps, right there.
They should really make more of these bugles if they dont already
that instrument is so beautiful. thank you for giving it another chance to perform
I always enjoy your videos as a musician myself
Love your videos. You are a true artist and the amount of time you spend on each horn is amazing. I wish you would talk more about the tool you pick for a certain job and when you are in the process, give a little more explanation on the How and Why you are doing things for the amateur instrument repair folks like me
Love these long format series. Thanks Wes!
Incredible craftsmanship!
that one looks a lot like the one I played in the 60's in a drum and bugle organization while in Jr high school.
Awesome Wes this is going to be a great series 👍👍
This gonna be a good series. Hooked already.
Outstanding work man. 😃😃
It's off to a great start!
i just to share my exp..i used dishwashing soap and water..i heat the stuck tube and soak to the solution. I reheat and soak to the soap again and again until it loosen..i do these many times and its effective..
Cant wait to see the rest
Is that some homemade penetrating oil? I use acetone and ATF but have also used kerosene and ATF too. Both are better than anything I''ve ever purchased to use.
I do machining and repairs on brass items like art, furniture etc. I used flitz tarnish remover spray on a chair i was polishing and brazing, it looked like it was on the bottom of the ocean in a ship wreck. This spray just melted the tarnish off with no scrubbing. Try it
Good afternoon, do you know about the liquid he uses to solder, what components are
@Tuca-Luthier. its just liquid flux for soft lead solder.
@@vettepicking so in Brazil they don't have it for sale, I would like to know if there is a way to prepare it with the correct acids, in Brazil there is only paste or else the flammable liquid flux
@Tuca-Luthier. just use paste plumbing flux for copper pipe, use with small brush to apply it.
👍👍👍
Nice seeing another one of your videos. If you may spare any information, do you have any tips for maintaining a wooden clarinet?
You should be able to search through the videos on the channel and find several on clarinet.
Very nice. I love old drum and bugle corps instruments. That must be a baritone. Too big for a soprano.
I think it's a trombone or alto bugle maybe.
This is a tenor-baritone. I have one just like it, in very similar condition.
14:22 Relatable.
wonder if you can build an instrument from scratch? love the videos a lot of cool techniques, 👌👌👍👍👍👍👍
👍
Will a dented horn have a different tone? Would a high-school player notice a difference?
I enjoy your work. I love it that you take an old instrument and bring it back to life.
I see you are using a different torch on the propane tank. How are you liking that? Pros and Cons? I'm looking to upgrade to a more precise torch option for more detail work. I really like your Little Smith set-up and was just curious about the new flame.......

Is there any kind of story behind this bugle? How old approximately is it?
Great video. Why did you not anneal the tubes before straightening them?
I wonder if penetrating oil in an ultrasonic cleaner would free up some parts faster.
This is the style of piston that is in my Czech trumpet. What is the style called? I would like more information on how it goes together because there are both cork and felt in mine and I think it misaligns the valves as this is not the original configuration.
One question, what liquid do you apply when you are welding? Thank you so much
Good afternoon, did you get the answers about the liquid he uses to solder
@@Tuca-Luthier. no
@@julimusik03 I was researching and found something, but without any confirmation, it would be about diluting zinc in hydrochloric acid (muriatic), which turns into zinc chloride that is used in flux pastes.
I acquired two old bugles how can I show them to you?
What torch is that?
What would a repair like this cost?
Что это за труба , что за строй, всего один клапан . как она звучит ?
Most of those things play horribly when new. One has to invest quite a bit to get a bugle or field trumpet that is of decent quality.
Wes or anyone - - how old is this instrument?
These were used by drum and bugle corps from the 1930’s - 1950’s.
each time I see a bugle that needs repair, the mouthpiece receiver is bent…
SIR AFTER WATCHING YOU REMOVE THE MOUTH PIECE TUBE ON THIS SINGLE PLUNGER HORNE (WAX) SIR GENTLE HEAT WITH A TORCH ☝️ GENTLE HEAT IS TECHNICALLY KNOWN AS A
(CARBURIZING FLAME) NOT TO HOT AND SPREAD OUT OVER THE AREA BEING WORKED ON
I'M SORRY IF I'VE BEEN A BOTHER TO YA BUT I JUST CAN'T HEP ME SEF 😉👍👍 I TRULEY ENJOY WATCHIN U

Great work! We love watching your videos!
Mark 1:15 💌 …The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.💌
Why would you want to fix that piece of junk. Nobody even uses them , unless its a junior marching band , just learning.
Not worth it .
