Yep. It's randomized when you open the pack, not when you go to the pack select screen. Doesn't matter what pack you pick, as the cards don't even exist until you tear it open.
Technically there is a difference in the packs since your choice decides whether you get a regular pack or a rare/god pack. So in most cases, yeah, all the packs will effectively be the same.

My best pull using this method was my first and only koga. Trainer cards are the true rares for me it seems. Need Sabrina something fierce but nada. Any way to buy other trainers than the professor?
Reading through the offering rates section and i think it is showing that cards are generated after selecting the pack. The exact wording is "Pack selection is the first selection process that is carried out. In pack selection a pack to be opened will be selected so that step 2, card selection can occur." and a bit after "after the pack to be opened is decided in step 1 (pack selection) step 2 is carried out (card selection)" so it seems like the whole wheel for choosing packs does absolutely nothing as the cards aren't even chosen until after you've chosen a pack.
I felt nostalgic coming into this video since I haven't really been getting video recommends from you since your ACNH videos (TRAGIC), but dang Austin, what a transformation! Huge difference between now and 4 years ago 💖
For all we know, all of those packs might just contain the same cards and the carousel is just made for flair to give the illusion of choice. The true gacha mechanic kicks at the moment you click "open a pack". Or maybe not. 🤷🏼♂️
4:58 my first pack doing this had 2 EX cards in it! And since then I’ve gotten a new card almost every time including some of my best. BUT I don’t think this is real. This game is just generous at times. A friend who doesn’t do this gets EX cards more than I do. But with nothing better to do I sometimes waste my time looking for a bent pack.
Hey Austin, I was rerolling for a good start on what will be my main account, and heard about the rumor. This is what I can say for my experience: I must have opened about 60ish packs while looking for the bent packs, and got no better odds than just opening the first pack available, also, got lots of miss packs. My experience rerolling was as follows, I was rerolling for a Pikachu deck: 1st reroll, got lots of alt art baby mons, like 12 or 13, but no EXs. 2nd and 3rd rerolls, got one or two useless EXs, and that was it. 4th reroll, got 1 Pikachu EX and 1 Zapdos EX, but was basically it. 5th reroll, searched for bent packs, got 3 Wigglytuff EX, 2 normal, and 1 full art, and 2 full art Brocks. 6th reroll, searched for bent packs, got basically nothing. 7th reroll, just opened the first available pack, got 3 Blastoise EX, 2 normal and 1 full art, got 2 Zapdos EX, and 2 Pikachu EX, 1 normal and 1 immersive. What was my conclusion? It's just luck. On the account that I made on my old Android phone to play the soft launch, I got 2 Pikachu EX, 1 normal and 1 immersive, and 2 Mewtow EX, 1 full art and 1 immersive, and a lot of full art basic cards, why? Just a case of good luck. The bent packs are definitly just a case of confirmation bias, if you didn't get the cards you want with the 30ish free packs you're given at the first few hours of the game, just reset the data, and open packs again, until you get what you need, there is no secret to get better pulls, other than spending money.
Someone already busted it, they got a different acount and on 1 they only clicked on doing a 1 card pack pull, not the carousel card pick. And on the other account the wonder pick of there card pack pull already showed up before the carousel pack was chosen
I think the devs were just adding some random variations to the carousel and leaving room for people to have their rituals for choosing a pack. Ill always grab the messed up corner ones even tho they dont have higher rates because how else am i supposed to choose 😅
The cards are decided the moment you hit "open pack", so yea, nothing in that carousel matters. It's all to look pretty and give the illusion of having choice.
@WiseOakDakota I was suspicious about this, too, but I'm still not quite sure if it's true, myself. I've had one instance where I thought one was turned in the opposite direction, and I opened it and got nothing. I wasn't sure if, when I spun the carousel, I had spun the pack, as well. Since then, I've been making sure to spin the carousel underneath the packs so as not to disturb the individual packs. So far, I've had pretty good success with flipped packs. It still may be nothing, and it may just be luck, I don't know.
I pulled a crown Zard off the bent packs and I’ve been doing this for about a week and a half now because I heard about this rumour a while ago and I have about a 60-70% success rate to either pull a card I don’t have or at least a 3 diamond card from these bent packs
There is a way to know. Select a booster pack, get to the carousel. And close out the game. I heard that the game gives you the cards (since it is already determined) when you reopen the game, and that it is only an illusion of choice.
Just tested it, it tells you that the game closed while opening a booster pack, even though i hadn't selected one off of the carousel yet. It told me to see what i got by filtering by most recent cards. So no, this theory of bent packs is false.
The game would be illegal in EU if this was true. Since over here you have to fully write out the odds of each type of pack, and if a bent pack had different odds to a straight pack, then that would also have to be written out, you'd have to make a difference between "Genetic Apex Pikachu" & "Genetic Apex Pikachu bent". Which would be highly illogical, the bent effect is only there for aesthetics, so the packs looks a bit more authentic.
It’s not a guarantee, but I do think that noticeably crumpled packs have a higher probability of pita “hit”. Similar to how they say that charizards are pulled out of Venasaur base set packs. Not guaranteed, but at a higher probability then other packs
They patched It super fast before the videos got out. My cousin sent me the link for the first post or two and I got all the virtual world cards instantly two days ago. But even that night (Thursday) It all went back to normal and I believe they corrected It.
It's working for me, in 8 straight packs using this method I've gotten 6 holo and 2 ex Charizard ex and Starmie EX, atleast 1 pack with a holo always so far.
You're just lucky man. I did this with my last 10 plus packs and have only gotten one good pull. It's just a placebo. They would have to tell you in the odds if there were increased chances with some packs due to gambling laws in the EU.
All the packs in the selection wheel are pre determined and will all have the same cards. As soon as you click “open pack” the cards you will get are determined regardless which one you end up tearing on the wheel. Confirmed by dataminers.
I only open backwards packs and I’ve got SO much 😂 RNG is RANDOM guys there is no methods 😂 but keep spinning on 1 foot and chanting the Irish Sea shanty as you will
It doesn't matter which pack you Open because they're all the same, the. Reason why I say this is that if you hit the fast forward button, it picks the pack for you and if you cool close out the app before you pick one, it still gives you The pokemon, so it's already decided before you even pick which pack to open
Back again! I opted to open a Pikachu booster. The first pack that popped up was a BACKWARDS pack...but it had a "kerfuffled" right corner. I checked the other packs, but chose to open the initial pack with the bent corner. I received FOUR new cards to my collection (not exactly difficult at the level I am currently at)...a basic Seel, a basic Growlithe, as well as, a Zapdos AND a full art Gyrados! I'm pulling big on the bent packs
Yk i realized there’s another way you can know if the pack is going to give you a good card but it’s only when you’ve already selected a pack. When you start to open it normally the pack open it sounds like ripping paper, but sometimes it sounds completely different like a sheet or something metallic (maybe) and they’re pretty good. Keep your ears open.
The first video you made about what packs you opened from first starting. I did and wound up with the exact same cards you had. Choosing the exact same options you did. Even the guess the which card flip over game. To the exact same cards in the random packs.
I just started my game during this video. I have opened 5 packs and have 3 EX cards. The 1st pack was the tutorial so it wouldn’t count for this test but I got a Marowak. The 2nd from the tutorial pull was a little scuffed in the top left but didn’t have an EX. The 3rd and 4th packs were scuffed top right and left respectively and had a Machamp and Executor. The 5th from the hourglass tutorial didn’t have any scuffed packs so I just spun the roulette to decide but I did happen to get a Mawile from the pack (my favorite Pokémon). Discounting the 1st (no choice) and 5th (no scuff) I’ve got a 2/3 hit rate from tested packs. Edit: I’ve since opened a few more scuffed packs with the early game mission rewards to start filling out the deck. I only got one Ex card (dupe Machamp) and the others did give me Meltan and Melmetal. Each pack gave new cards but I think the most interesting pull was 2 new cards and a repeat dome fossil, as it brings to mind that items may also be a reason the pack’s scuffed. All in all I did get more hits than misses at least, but this did skew the numbers. I also think level of scuffed may be a potential indication because having just the left side scuffed seemed to give less rewards than both corners bent. Something like “this pack looks a little different, maybe there’s something good” and “this pack stands out, I’ve got a good feeling” as a reward for paying attention. The dupe EX did come from a particularly scuffed pack.
Knew how the video would end (based on the thumbnail). STILL watched the whole thing Appreciate how you're straight to the point AND your level of detail is still worth the watch.
The bent packs don't really seem to find anything more than normal, however something I have noticed is when you scroll through the carousel, occasionally I will feel my phone vibrate when passing over a particular section. Initially i thought it was a fluke but itll subtly vibrate when swiping and if i swipe back to that spot it will occur again. I was never able to pin point exactly which pack does it as it seems to only happen while spinning a bit fast. I did however scroll and happen to stop on the one it vibrated with and it did contain a higher rarity card. That may be something worth looking into. Again doesn't happen every time you go to pick a pack and when you do it feel that vibrate it won't always do it each time you go to swipe over that spot again.
Honestly nothing matters I think, crimple or not, and even the pack you pick cause its all the same as soon as you click open, You can just skip the card spinning in animation and it will just give you the card to open. You can click open, quit the game and when you come back it gives you the cards without ever swiping the deck.
5:42 well yes it does. Once you get on the choosing screen that pack already appears on the wonder pick for your friends. Already tried it with different friends.
nah, there was a test that showed that the pack selection screen doesn't matter, the contents are already selected at random after you press on buy a pack. (the app sends packets to the game server a la saving your progress once you press the buy a pack, it doesn't send another packet after selecting a pack on the pack roulette/carousel/selection menu)
Something I noticed because of this video is that some packs vibrate when I scroll through them one by one. I've only opened 3 packs since I've started paying attention and got an EX Wigglytuff, Gloom art, and a Kangaskhan that I didn't have yet.
Someone named Rustywolf made a video a few days ago with proof using server data that the carousel is basically an animation and the cards received are determined upon clicking the open pack button, There are also instances where people's pack will appear in Wonder Pack for friends before a pack has been selected in the carousel screen.
Admittedly I haven't opened a ton of packs because I just started playing like an hour ago, but I've actually found the backwards packs to be pretty good. I got a fancy Exeggutor ex out of the first one, and then a fancy Pinsir out of another. I'll have to try the bent corners though.
In my own experience, when I first heard of a bent corner packs I looked out for them. The first one had an animated card, the second had both nidoking and nidoqueen. I've had more luck pulling new cards from bent corners than carouseling the packs. I'll still be opening bent corners whenever they pop up.
I had 400 cards with no Charizard card period with mostly only opening Charizard card packs. I did the corner trick 1 time and got the Charizard EX interactive card... i was skeptical too but now idk lol.
I went through three card packs and got one Articuno EX and a Venusaur EX by observing the crinkles in the top right corners of the packs. I think it’s worth spending money, because you’ll never know until you try it
I am 3 in a row since learning about this but only with packs that have very significant crease in the top right corner. I got Articuno EX, Articuno EX, and gloom full art. It seems to work to me so far 🤷♀️ we will see after more testing
Had four since I saw this rumour, two were Zapdos EX. No idea if I believe it's a thing, but feels like it could be the Pocket version of Masuda Method etc. for Shiny Pokemon if it is. It's not a guarantee, but it might be a higher rate.
Wasn't it proven by centro leaks that it doesn't even matter ehich pack you choose? Once you get to the opening screen the cards will be the same regardless of which pack you pick So whether you go the first one or choose to move 3 packs over
I spent some money to test this the other day (before your video was even posted). From what I've seen, the crinkle seriously does seem to have an effect. Not every pull will even have a crinkled pack, and when they do, it is NOT a guaranteed rare. It does seem to be an increased chance to get rare cards. While I haven't noticed any patterns related to Right vs Left corner, I absolutely have noticed a trend where the more crinkled the pack, the more likely you are to get an EX or a full-art rare. The slight bend is a slight increase, but the packs with a big bend on both sides seem to give an EX or full-art well over half the time when they appear in my pulls.
I've had the same experience as you looking for the corner packs. the slight ones having not much of anything, and the really bent ones being a little better maybe
After opening a pack, press and hold the cards and slightly slide to the right, you'll be able to see the edges of upcoming 4 diamond rares/FA's/EX's, helps to tell you to speed through the pack or prepare for pleasant surprise/getting a card you already have. Not game-breaking, but i did get a nice screenshot of a god pack this way in the vanilla game.
I've been trying this method all weekend, so maybe eight packs or so, and haven't had any more success than just opening random packs from the carousel. I dunno, since there isn't a whole lot to do in the game so far since I'm basically opening a pack or two and then turning it off until the next day, looking for a pack with a bent corner at least makes it feel like I'm doing something besides just randomly picking one from the carousel. So even if it doesn't really have any increased odds it makes the selection more personal
I've just been trying to spin them all and grab one randomly. Never even thought to inspect them. I actually was annoyed I couldn't make the packs go in a fast circle lol.
It's already been shown that in TCG Pocket as soon as you click the type of pack, the cards are already generated and even the pack will already be on wonder pick even if you wait 5-10 minutes to actually open it, so your choice in which pack you choose is strictly one for the immersion and has zero effect on the cards, the only time choice does matter is through the wonder pick, but for the packs, they're pre-generated upon chosing which of the 3 you want
i saw a video yesterday of someone opening a pack they come to the carousel of packs and left it there, their friend looked in the wonderpick section and the pack of cards that was not even opened yet showed up to her friends wonderpick mind you she was still on the carousel of packs screen and even confirmed after that the cards in the wonderpick section where the same as her pack that was not opened so i think the carousel of packs is just an illusion to make you think you have a choice but you actually dont have any choice at all.
I’m 5/5 now. Finally got my charizard. However I’ve noticed charizard packs do have a lot of corners bent as pikachu as a higher chance of seeing bent corners.
There are 2 tell-tale signs that you have a rare card. They both appear/sound when you open the pack. If the sound is like a singular thud (not the normal pack opening crinkle). Then yeah, something rare in there. And the easiest visual indicator. Rainbow effects pop out of the pack. Edit: have yet to see the "God Pack" where all 5 cards are rare I believe it's a 0.055% to open a "God Pack" 2nd edit: if you click to open a pack and your friend checks your wonder trade. They will see what cards you pull in that pack before you do. All packs are predetermined already :T
I did notice that it seems there is a light that comes out of the pack when there's a rare card inside (Almost like a rainbow?) not sure if this is common knowledge yet, but it seems to be the case with anything rarer than a holo. Not sure if a pack with a holo has a similar effect though
Someone in an another video commented that the cards are predeterment the time when you select a pack in the pack selection screen so the bent corners are only a rumor nothing more. He confirmed it that he closes the app in the circle of packs and reopened it and it said that he got the cards but he never selected any pack from the circle
it could theoretically be the other way around. if your predeterminded set of cards has something good in them, then there is a higher chance of one of the packs having messed up corners
I watched this and got like the charizard cards in front of me, one had a crimpled corner on one side and it had Machamp EX in it Also, packs that start out backwards already seem like God packs with good EX cards or foils or even full arts, that's how I got my full art Eevee card. But idk if you already made a video about that. I also refuse to spend any money on this unless they're physical cards. Also found loads of changes with battle system in here and over on normal tcg, wonder if this could be a thing they'd host on championships
I just opened a pack with a bent corner, and an Arcanine ex was the first card in the pack. But also, you can skip choosing a pack, and opening 10 at once also skips choosing a pack, so it's likely all a coincidence. EDIT: Yeah so I opened my next pack, same thing with the corner, and it also had an Arcanine ex in it (the other one that I didn't get last time). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is not an endorsement of this strategy, but after watching this I opened 3 packs. None on the first two had a crumpled corner. I picked the packs I felt were the most crumpled, but I think it was mostly placebo there. Both packs did well with the first one getting a new Machamp ex. Second pack got Full art Slowpoke and Full art Rapidash. The third pack is where things get interesting. I did find a crumpled pack in this set. I got my first Immersive card: Charizard. This likely means nothing, but damn if it doesn't feel like something.
TLDR. No.
Thank you Austin John Plays, very cool 👍

@@stormborn23 this is exactly how it works. The cards are set when you click "open pack", the carousel is just an illusion of choice.
Amish Austin John doesn't exist he can't hurt you
Amish Austin John:
Amish John Plays here
4:58 my first pack doing this had 2 EX cards in it! And since then I’ve gotten a new card almost every time including some of my best. BUT I don’t think this is real. This game is just generous at times. A friend who doesn’t do this gets EX cards more than I do. But with nothing better to do I sometimes waste my time looking for a bent pack.
Same for me. After seeing this, my first pacl had 2 full arts (duplicates tho) and the second had new cards I was missing
Hey Austin, I was rerolling for a good start on what will be my main account, and heard about the rumor.
This is what I can say for my experience:
I must have opened about 60ish packs while looking for the bent packs, and got no better odds than just opening the first pack available, also, got lots of miss packs.
My experience rerolling was as follows, I was rerolling for a Pikachu deck:
1st reroll, got lots of alt art baby mons, like 12 or 13, but no EXs.
I have noticed that some packs also show up backwards, and I ALWAYS get something good from them
@WiseOakDakota I was suspicious about this, too, but I'm still not quite sure if it's true, myself.
Already saw your costume. Hilarious!
@@3339ty replying to your own comment, so “real” 😂
@ I had never tested till then. But yep I am a real person thanks for affirming my humanity. Try for yourself if you don’t believe me lol.
Back with the playground rumors. I'm loving this
ETA: I just got a Starmie EX from a charizard pack with a crimped top right corner
Infact Europe here, no bent pack ever out for me in 100 packs to try... they all straight as nails
Austin is taking part in No-Shave November.
It’s not a guarantee, but I do think that noticeably crumpled packs have a higher probability of pita “hit”. Similar to how they say that charizards are pulled out of Venasaur base set packs. Not guaranteed, but at a higher probability then other packs
I've opened 12 packs with the bent corners across several accounts and have gotten nothing better than a 3 diamond
They patched It super fast before the videos got out. My cousin sent me the link for the first post or two and I got all the virtual world cards instantly two days ago. But even that night (Thursday) It all went back to normal and I believe they corrected It.
4:05 I just died laughing at! The expression in your voice I'm so weak!
i just downloaded the game and followed your day 1 tips, thank you!
That "what the f***" made me audibly laugh out loud.
I accidentally did a backwards pack on my second phone and got a god pack xD
Same! Got 3 two star cards and 2 one star cards. My craziest pull yet.
1:58 So glad u think this way 🙏🏼🙏🏼
It's working for me, in 8 straight packs using this method I've gotten 6 holo and 2 ex
Charizard ex and Starmie EX, atleast 1 pack with a holo always so far.
I only open backwards packs and I’ve got SO much 😂 RNG is RANDOM guys there is no methods 😂 but keep spinning on 1 foot and chanting the Irish Sea shanty as you will
We got shaved Austin John before GTA 6
It doesn't matter which pack you Open because they're all the same, the. Reason why I say this is that if you hit the fast forward button, it picks the pack for you and if you cool close out the app before you pick one, it still gives you The pokemon, so it's already decided before you even pick which pack to open
The music stopping when you get an EX was sending me
Every "bent pack" I've opened had nothing above a 2 diamond card in them. Long story short, it doesn't mean anything.
@@HexSableye same man
Thanks for taking one for the team.
Man this takes me back, loved your videos when everyone was playing botw, awesome
It works! I got the gold charizard out of a bent pack!
Knew how the video would end (based on the thumbnail). STILL watched the whole thing
Appreciate how you're straight to the point AND your level of detail is still worth the watch.
4:10 that commentary caught me so off guard 😂😂
Also, there is a certain cutting sound if you got an awesome card inside. Like a bam sound.
It’s kind of a boring game. But I’m glad it gives you something to make consistent content about.
Honestly nothing matters I think, crimple or not, and even the pack you pick cause its all the same as soon as you click open, You can just skip the card spinning in animation and it will just give you the card to open. You can click open, quit the game and when you come back it gives you the cards without ever swiping the deck.
Wow. the snap to cue the intro. I’m swooned, Austin John ❤
"who that guy? Where Austin go??" definitely was my first reaction when i saw the thumbnail and preview xD
My guy, haven't watched your vids for a while and I gotta say. YOUR LOOKING GREAT! Glad your taking care of yourself :)
Its the top right side. Not the left. And it has to be really crimpled
Something I noticed because of this video is that some packs vibrate when I scroll through them one by one. I've only opened 3 packs since I've started paying attention and got an EX Wigglytuff, Gloom art, and a Kangaskhan that I didn't have yet.
Got crown rare pika in my second bent pack and ex mew2 in my first.( I did not knew about bent packs before)
Someone named Rustywolf made a video a few days ago with proof using server data that the carousel is basically an animation and the cards received are determined upon clicking the open pack button,
There are also instances where people's pack will appear in Wonder Pack for friends before a pack has been selected in the carousel screen.
Love the videos Austin! Think you can do a video covering which cards are in each pack cover?
I went through three card packs and got one Articuno EX and a Venusaur EX by observing the crinkles in the top right corners of the packs. I think it’s worth spending money, because you’ll never know until you try it
I am 3 in a row since learning about this but only with packs that have very significant crease in the top right corner. I got Articuno EX, Articuno EX, and gloom full art. It seems to work to me so far 🤷♀️ we will see after more testing
AHHH! SHAVEN AUSTIN!
Now, on to the card packs.
4:10 LMAO
Had four since I saw this rumour, two were Zapdos EX. No idea if I believe it's a thing, but feels like it could be the Pocket version of Masuda Method etc. for Shiny Pokemon if it is. It's not a guarantee, but it might be a higher rate.
Wasn't it proven by centro leaks that it doesn't even matter ehich pack you choose? Once you get to the opening screen the cards will be the same regardless of which pack you pick
So whether you go the first one or choose to move 3 packs over
I spent some money to test this the other day (before your video was even posted).
You can hold and drag the cards across to see if there is anything good at the end after you open it
I've been trying this method all weekend, so maybe eight packs or so, and haven't had any more success than just opening random packs from the carousel.
I could have sworn it was said somewhere that your cards are already determined when you go into the pack picking UI and its just flair
Last video "I'm done buying packs with gold"
It's already been shown that in TCG Pocket as soon as you click the type of pack, the cards are already generated and even the pack will already be on wonder pick even if you wait 5-10 minutes to actually open it, so your choice in which pack you choose is strictly one for the immersion and has zero effect on the cards, the only time choice does matter is through the wonder pick, but for the packs, they're pre-generated upon chosing which of the 3 you want
i pulled a full art Weezing while watching this video - the real trick is to just be watching Austin John while opening boosters
i saw a video yesterday of someone opening a pack they come to the carousel of packs and left it there,
their friend looked in the wonderpick section and the pack of cards that was not even opened yet showed up to her friends wonderpick mind you she was still on the carousel of packs screen and even confirmed after that the cards in the wonderpick section where the same as her pack that was not opened so i think the carousel of packs is just an illusion to make you think you have a choice but you actually dont have any choice at all.
Edit: have yet to see the "God Pack" where all 5 cards are rare
I believe it's a 0.055% to open a "God Pack"
2nd edit: if you click to open a pack and your friend checks your wonder trade. They will see what cards you pull in that pack before you do. All packs are predetermined already :T
I also find some that are already turned around which is pretty cool
I did notice that it seems there is a light that comes out of the pack when there's a rare card inside (Almost like a rainbow?) not sure if this is common knowledge yet, but it seems to be the case with anything rarer than a holo. Not sure if a pack with a holo has a similar effect though
I think its the right side where it says A1, first one i opened was very good
Someone in an another video commented that the cards are predeterment the time when you select a pack in the pack selection screen so the bent corners are only a rumor nothing more. He confirmed it that he closes the app in the circle of packs and reopened it and it said that he got the cards but he never selected any pack from the circle
it could theoretically be the other way around. if your predeterminded set of cards has something good in them, then there is a higher chance of one of the packs having messed up corners
Seeing someone shave is like them taking of their glasses.
I watched this and got like the charizard cards in front of me, one had a crimpled corner on one side and it had Machamp EX in it
Also, packs that start out backwards already seem like God packs with good EX cards or foils or even full arts, that's how I got my full art Eevee card.
