Once guitarist Michael Gilbert returned to the band, the songwriting drastically improved. I liked the stuff they did from 1999 to 2010 too, don't get me wrong, but a lot of it sounded forced. Michael Gilbert makes Flotsam And Hetsam better
It sounds like Testament (different vocals, of course) and that's actually a good thing. Funny thing is, Testament has a song on their new album called "Seven Seals".
I'm just calling this coincidence. Both bands released their records in the same year and writing/recording/mastering takes a lot of time, so I don't think they could copy each other.
I did...they came to 'the rock'; it was thē coolest(A+…). He was transfigured into the green character off of the 'deciver' album, it was hype...he dug the crowed. The band floored us on the classics. But this jam was ...heavy...and iron maiden. A couple of speedmetal o.g.'s were there, too...it was dense mad. This hot short blonde chick with top-ō-thē-line thighs wearing a cheetah print onezee said, "you with the tail in front! You're wearing the wrong uniform!" I knew what she meant, but I dress how I dress; I don't know that if she was their manager or what, but she was with them. Dude, they were rad...and dig, 3 days latter kreator was coming too. I bought merch, and my ride was in a big hurry to leave, so I had to go; I don't like being rushed, you know.
I own every Flotsam and Jetsam cd and I can tell you they have been extremely inconsistent over the years. They lost a great deal of talent and creativity when Newstead left. 1986's Doomsday for the Deceiver is a Fucking masterpiece. Listen to the bass on the album and you learn why Metallica picked Jason. I actually can't say enough good stuff about their first record. Someone listen to it now and tell me what you think. The first and last songs are standouts
Flotsam and jetsam is inconsistent? No way...you couldn't say that for a band that had made 12 studio albums and never care about the money like Metallica.Flotsams are the true artist.
+Ignat Stamaton Have you listened to all of their albums? Don't get me wrong. I Iike them, but they have put out some real dog shit records over the years. The only Metallica record I really don't care for is St. Anger.
Their first two records are thrash history (which Newsted had writing credits) Everything after that was hit or miss. I wish they would remaster No Place for Disgrace the way they did Doomsday
I think Christianity was mocked enough already, how about metal bands growing a pair, and start mocking other religions too? Yes, I'm talking about Islam. Even tho this is not really mocking, it's just a story from Revelations.
Josh Stephens I think it's not very popular because it isn't needed. Most people already know Islam is shitty in its core. What much less people know is that christianity is a terrible religion. Anti-christian music became very popular because people liked to be shocked and wanted to resist the mainstream christianity, and also that those who were already against christianity could be open about it. These factors don't play a role in the western world with anti-Islam music because Islam already isn't popular among the mainstream, and isn't popular in muslim countries because of heavy censorship and more severely indoctrinated people. They are not able to make anti-islam music themselves, and do not appreciate foreigners doing it. If anti-christian metal was made by Arab people, but everything else would have been the same, it would have been much less popular.
I believe Megadeth's newest record Dystopia has quite a bit of under the hood anti-Islamic tone to it. The Threat Is Real and Post American World I believe show a bit of it.
Jakromha While it was probably fun, we had black metal, even some death and thrash metal bands calling out Christianity so many times that it got boring. At least to me, and some other people I know. I don't think calling out Islam wouldn't get enough attention. Anthrax just did it on their new album in their "Evil Twins" song and it went pretty well.
Red Fly Brother the lyrics have always sounded like they were written by an 8 year old. Not just FLOTSAM, look at how shitty Metallica's new lyrics are. Even Slayer..last year. No one is picking on the boys. lol Settle down Beavis.
Pretty generic subject matter here - quite a few metal bands have taken lyrical ideas and concepts from the Book of Revelation. And the way the vocals are structured don't really seem to fit the song. The lyrics are cheesy to a cringe-worthy level as well.
This album is a true masterpiece, and I've been their fan for almost 30 years. Stay strong, Flots.
Once guitarist Michael Gilbert returned to the band, the songwriting drastically improved. I liked the stuff they did from 1999 to 2010 too, don't get me wrong, but a lot of it sounded forced. Michael Gilbert makes Flotsam And Hetsam better
That intro is just succulent and whole song is heavy af.them drums and guitars are bon a petit! Awesome lyrics too. Gem of a song
perfect
GREAT lyrics - love it!
Wow I didn't know they had a video for this!! This song is AMAZING!
Cool new arrival. ))) Rock on!
Badass song !!!

F and J MASTERPIECE
New Flotsam and Jetsam album is a masterpiece.Too bad that the edition booklet that made the AFM is so bad and i cannot read the lyrics of the songs.
As much as I love the new album, lyrics are really bad, so maybe that's a good thing.
Your opinion is respected but for me i think that is classical flotsam and jetsam and i am happy that make a so strong record.
Yes, for me it's album of the year, but still, that doesn't make lyrics good.

Summer Ky Love No Place for Disgrace!
I dont care about that Newsted left Flotsam. There was enough creativity left, without writing Enter Sandman and Nothing else.

There's been a decent amount of anti-islam metal. Those are still the only two I have heard metal against.
Jakromha One I know about is Anthrax, I don't know about any other band calling Islam out.

Good stuff, but still can't past the awful lyrics they come up with. That's always been their Achille's heal.
Says you!
I agree, it's awfully written

WTF man?! Read lyrics from "My God" or "Drift" albums...Mentally bewildered You are? ;-)

Whatever! lyrics really don't matter in live performances.
I love flots cheesy lyrics
