Such joyful happi tears for me in my heart that loves Jesus, my Lord, my King, my Savior, my God, my Fabba Whom loves me as His child He Himself created beautiful and precious in my mamitas precious womb! Blest Be our Great God!
Very comforting, soothes the conscience, evokes my wrongdoings, not-at-all-good-thoughts within me, especially about/against others. "THOUGH I WAS NOT HIS FATHER, HE WAS MINE"!!! truly.... MADE MY DAY
Also, I think one of the paintings is Del Parson, who graduated from high school a year before my brother. His younger brother Leon has 45+ covers on Outdoor Life, was a close friend of mine. I still own one of their dad, Oliver's, paintings. Oliver passed only a couple of years ago at 94. Still spry, all smiles.
The title means that Jesus was born of Mary (mortal) & conceived by the Spirit (God - immortal) so Joseph was Jesus's earthly mortal "guardian". Joseph was entrusted to care for Mary's child (as he did for his other children). He sings that... I was not his Father (God is), but He is mine (while on Earth he is under my care)! The lyrics convey what Joseph might have felt being so imperfect while raising the Perfect Son & how nonbelievers might be confused thinking that he was his father (No, God was,is).
Kate, this was what I sang in church that day you were going to come. Some day I'll introduce you to Mike. Maybe sing it for you while he plays. In better days. Now you know who UpperSnakeTexan is. The Upper Snake River plain is the gorgeous, volcanic farming land of my youth. But I'm shur-as-shootin' Texan now.
It should have a colon after Joseph. She's asking Joseph, husband of Mary, if he was Jesus Christs father. His reply is "he was mine", because Christ bought our souls, therefore becomging father to us all.
And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters. Mosiah 5:7
This song has nothing to do with how Jesus died for us and our sins & become our father, how he is our father in Spirit and how we are his children. That topic is something entirely different! This sentimental song talks about how a woman meets Joseph and mistakenly refers to him as the "father" of Jesus Christ. Joseph corrects her, by saying: "No, I (Joseph) was not his Father (He know God in Heaven was His true Father.), he (Jesus) was mine (but while on Earth -mortality- I am responsible for him). Joseph laments, sings what it was like to raise the Son of God & how others are mistaken in calling him his Father( No, God is!)
It's a lovely song but.... Jesus is NOT the Father Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (For any not up on the scriptures, Peter is referring to our Heavenly Father, not Joseph)
Joseph wasn’t saying that Jesus is “THE” Father, he’s saying Jesus was “MY” father, in that Jesus taught Joseph more than Joseph taught Jesus. That’s what fathers do-they teach. Joseph knew all along who Jesus’ Father really was. Relax. It’s fine!
How can he sing that without tears? I can't listen without!

I don't really get the title but this is very touching music.
Jon Moore Jesus died for all of us and atoned for us so with that he bought us in a sense so is our father.

Yes.

Jesus becomes the Father of our spirits because of our covenant relationship to Him
