    I’m just adding that the square end of the socket is also great for just using it in your hand. We all get the the point where a ratchet feels useless and spin the socket by hand.

      thats why its there! plus you can pull the ratchet off and put an open end on it for tight spots.

      It is priced higher than most other ratchet sets but that’s to be expected with Milwaukee products. Your getting some pretty high quality stuff for the price though. If you have it on a pack out stack you can just pop it off and take it to whatever your working on instead of picking a socket then going back 8 times when you get the wrong size

    Great mechanic tool set, the packout is ok, overvtime the more tool you clip on the bulkier the packout become, to bad the Milwaukee couldn't design a tool box like the 4 drawer Kobalt tool box small and compact. All tools in one and one tool box to carry. not like the Milwaukee adding packout after packout. I have several Kobalt tool boxes .So I decided to organize the drawer. And put my Milwaukee 1/4 & 3/8 socket set along with my Milwaukee 1/2 socket set as well, along with enough room for my Milwaukee stubby 3/8 impact gun, charger, and battery, in my Kobalt 4 drawer tool box, and I gotta say it fits fine, light and easy to carry all in one. Note, I had 4 different types of Kobalt tool boxes, so I used the empty drawer that Kobalt has in each tool box kit and combine them in one tool box, and installed my Milwaukee tool set in the empty trays. Works Awesome! But hay thats just my opinion, hope Milwaukee can come up with a design like that

      The 52” Milwaukee chest only comes with four bumpers. Two L shaped bumpers for the front, and two for the back when they should have included 8-12 L bumpers so the middle section and top would also be protected. Some guys take the back bumpers and drill them into the front at the top so the four included are all in the front. Being hesitant to drill into a nice chest but knowing all along if you own this chest, your more than likely highly skilled, so “Just Do It”. Pack-out retro fitting to the chest or even a multiple chest interlock system along with many more details, are somethings that Milwaukee should take note of.

      Understandable, I am a old school mechanic, 52" drawer which I've seen is quite cool, but I am talking about something portable to easily carry when need to do some maintenance on your vehicle. And I think Milwaukee which there mechanic tools are awsome by the way, should make a 4 drawer set up like Kobalt 286pc to make things easier to carry all in one box, instead of putting together packout after packout, then before you know it you got a bulky stack you gotta carry around, but with the Kobalt 4 drawer system, its just one box, you should check it out, the 286pc 4 drawer set. I think that's what Milwaukee should do maybe up grade with a locking mechanism to secure your tools. But hay thats just my opinion.

    What I’m asking is can I take the 1/2” drive tray and put it in the big packout container, and can I take the SAE 1/4”-3/8” tray and put it in the smaller packout container?

      It was a hurdle for me to get past the look of the socket, but really thinking it through, I can't think of why to hate it. It's not a size issue, and the square does offer at least a couple of benefits. I really don't know what the drawback is in order to count against them.

    Looks like a good set, unfortunately I don't know if this will work for mechanics as those sockets have a much wider base compared to other sets. I understand the advantage of it, especially in tight space, but in narrow shallow holes (think spark plugs) I am afraid the base would not fit. I see this being a very good choice for electricians or other trades were clearance is not a huge problem.

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  3 роки тому +13

      The base is not any wider than the rest of the socket. We measured the sockets with our dial calipers. Measuring across the round part of the socket is the exact diameter as from point to point diagonally. Also, we measured the 13mm diameter in the Milwaukee and it was within a few thousandths of an old USA Craftsman 13mm socket. Does that make sense? Thanks for watching.

    Not a fan of these ratchets at all. They have considerable anvil/gear deflection when the ratchet isn't perfectly at a 90°. This makes the gearing jump and stick making the socket very hard to turn quickly by hand. The ratchet is also very heavy and not balanced well. The sockets are okay. If you are like me and like to grab and turn the socket to speed things up, the square ends interfere.
    These sockets do still roll, just not as easy.

    Not a fan of the square back end on the sockets especially the deep sockets. In tight spaces where the socket barely fits the square isn't going to work as well as a round socket. @@Shoptoolreviews I'm a car guy I've owned about 100 cars through the years. I've often had to fit a socket in very tight spaces where the socket is rubbing on something around the bolt or nut you are trying to remove or replace. In that situation I think the square part of the socket creates a disadvantage that outweighs any positive advantage it has. Functionality is the most important aspect of a socket and the square part potentially limits that functionality. I don't think thousands of mechanics are going to get rid of their snap on or Mac sockets and buy these. We will see but my money is on that feature eventually going away.

    • @paedahe4975
      @paedahe4975 3 роки тому +2

      I personally think that if your using non locking extensions, and reaching into the engine, sockets have a way of catching on edges and falling to the floor or into the engine. If your lucky, it will drop to the floor if there is no rock guards underneath. In that case, the square design would leave the socket right where it fell. But the reason it fell is that the square caught an edge on something... it’s a wash. 🤷‍♂️
