I 2 am a SENIOR & I want 2 stay with my Original Medicare....NO TO THAT HORRID MED ADVANTAGE !!!!!!!!!! Seniors let's tell those Lazy Reps & SENATORS we Vote 2
Its also about the profit margin increase for big insurance who greases their pockets. They give them campaign contributions and lobby money for promises. This is how these people become millionaires. Not by earning an honest living and certainly not doing the job they are appointed to do for the people.
I work as a RN case manager in a large hospital system and Oz is going to screw up the seniors care plan and now they will get denied for many services! Most seniors I care for cannot afford what they have now! This will totally mess up their lives which are already challenging for so many. Oz is a total idiot.
I've never trusted Dr. Oz. I rarely watched his show due to having to work for a living. Every time I did watch, he was pushing a new guaranteed weight loss gimmick.
My family doctor, who my family has gone to for over 15 years, advised me to avoid the Medicare Advantage plan because of all the negative experiences he and his patients have had with it.
Medicare rarely denies claims and you chose your doctor. Medicare Advantage has very high denial of claims and procedures approvals, many less doctors are in MA plans. If you never need a doctor and have Medicare Advantage they collect $600 a month of your benefit and keep it. So the more they deny, the more money they keep. Its a windfall for the insurance companies and a bad deal for policy holders.
I am confused by these comments. My husband has been with Medicare Advantage for 6 years, specifically UHC. He has had several hospitalizations, surgeries, procedures, for heart issues, cancer etc, totalling hundreds of thousands of dollars. We have never been denied coverage and our out of pocket cost have been reasonable. We chose this coverage because both parents had the same MA coverage, with histories of knee and hip replacements, multiple surgeries and cancers - with no denials of coverage and minimal OOP cost. I am most definitely a "never tRumper" and find all his appointed cabinet members extremely lacking in both experience and character, and totally believe they can and will make everything worse instead of better - but have not been unhappy with the MA plan. Also, I read above that the MA plan costs $600 a month, but that is not true. We started out 6 years ago at $145 a month and the amount for 2025 is $185 monthly. We also were able to continue with the same doctors, including specialist that we had prior to starting Medicare, and continuing to see the same doctors in 2025.
@ galjbu,,, The 600 a month premium because the government goes by your adjusted gross income they look at your income frm 2 years ago, if your income is under 191,000 you pay the lesser premium most people pay a month in 2024 175.00 a month, if your adjusted gross income is over 191,000 your monthly premium be higher, Welp consider you one of the few that had a positive experience with the advantage plan United healthcare. ,😊, Maybe they have a quota of how many people they approve 🤔.
@@jgalbu8828 the 600 i was referring to was what the government pays UHC to assume a Medicare Advantage enrollees medical costs. That was an old figure though. In 2019 the part D payment to UHC was about 1000 a month. So if UHC denies all claims they make 12k a year plus your 160 a month payment. They get paid by both the government and policy holder. It’s a racket and the costs are skyrocketing for the government compared to regular Medicare. Its no surprise that Dr Oz and UHC want to expand Medicare Advantage because they are making big money. Oz owns stock in UHC apparently.
We have had an advantage plan for years and are very happy with it. 0 premiums, 0 copay for our PCP, 0 for my prescriptions, give back on Medicare premiums, $45.00 for a specialist and many other benefits. Why is everyone putting down Medicare Advantage plans? Maybe you have the wrong ones?
@commonsense6967 If you are asking that question you have NOT researched what Medicare Advantage is. Usually when a federal program is "privatized" the private organization not the citizen is the winner. Bottom line do your research.
@@Jaysgirl53Everyone loves Medicare advantage until they get sick. You need a provider in your network, you need prior authorizations for many things and they have a very high claim denial rate. Original Medicare does not require prior authorizations and they approve most claims. And there there are no networks.

It’s my understanding that Medicare Advantage plans, rather than saving the government money, are actually more costly. So this sounds like a give-away to the insurance companies.
You understand correctly. It was created by Bush Jr as a way to tank traditional Medicare and shovel all the Medicare money into the pockets of the insurance companies. Medicare Advantage costs about 32% more than traditional Medicare.
Dr Oz is a snake oil salesman and a quack. I do not want him making decisions for me. No networks, HMO's, ordelay, denial, or appeals. Medicare Advantage plans are great as long as you never, ever get sick. They will pre-authorize chemo, do a retro-review, then decide to take back payments for not being "medically necessary." I used to work in oncology and know how they operate. I've seen it happen way too often.

I chose a Medicare Advantage plan that works very well for me. I do pay a premium approx $200 a month. My care is primarily in network but I'm referred to outside specialists when needed . But a cut in benefits is what concerns me. I am 81 and must work to supplement my income. I have continued to pay into the system since I began drawing social security at age 70. A 20-25% cut will be disastrous to my ability to keep up with rent , utilities and food. I feel our government is betraying us when we're most vulnerable.
If you’re 81 and physically still able to work, you’re one of the few fortunate ones. “Advantage” plans are killing off millions of us who are less fortunate. I nearly died because of UHC denying vital care for me more than once, and I suffer permanent damage directly caused by UHC policies.

This is their one shot and they will take it. And don't say I'm too pessimistic. I've heard that one before. "They'll never grant him ultimate immunity for everything, they being the Supreme Court. That's just silly. It's absurd. He'd become a king." Ummm..yeah. The point. Where have you guys been?
Dr. Oz should have to take an advantage plan. He speaks as though we didn't pay or earn it. I worked since I was 14 and now 70, where I paid for my future healthcare in advance. Nothing has been given to me. What else is never mentiioned, if you take all of us who paid in advance all that time, the amount of interest earned on all that money is and was a huge monetary benefit to the Government. @@davidanderson8469yeah, but free medicaid for freeloaders pays everything including vision and dental. And they never worked a day in their lives and get it handed to them. But seniors that worked their whole lives, paid taxes, gets limits.
I had an advantage plan for 8 years and it worked well for that time. I live in a large city and only had a few medical issues so was able to easily find an in network doctor and deductibles were manageable. Last year with a cancer diagnosis it was harder to find specialists taking my advantage plan and all of the tests, co-pays and hospital costs started to get expensive. Fortunately I was not denied coverage for 2 surgeries. My insurance company is closing shop on advantage plans next year so I plan to switch to original Medicare with a supplemental plan without the underwriting approval process. Advantage plans work as long as you are fairly healthy. Otherwise they get pretty expensive to your health and wallet.
Regular Medicare you can choose any doctor or hospital that you want. Medicare Advantage you must go to the doctor or hospital the insurance company wants you to see. Then you are subject to their approval. Choose wisely.
Scrap the Cap on income. FICA tax needs to be on all income. The Oligarchs are making money with munitions, and we are not billing them for their profits = $2T deficit under trump. Kamala wanted no new taxes on individuals making less than $400k, so now trump will renew the tax breaks on those Oligarchs that runs out next year. That includes the measly FICA tax.
Point is nothing “running out” - we should stop believing and parroting that nonsense talking point made by both captured parties. They magically fund whatever oligarchy wants funded.
IT doesn't make sense. There's never any money for the poor, the elderly, housing, or health insurance, or crumbling infrastructure . Even Africa has better water ports then we do. But when it comes to doling out million upon billions for other countries, inviting the world to America for free benefits, and the never ending wars that budget has no ceiling.
Yes, it makes sense because Medicare is funded by an earmarked payroll deduction that we all contribute to. Meducare is not funded by general tax revenue
That bill that passed in the House is running into opposition in the Senate. Rand Paul is not voting for it unless there’s a way to pay for it. Glad there are some in the Senate that understand what the passage of that bill really means.
Well Britain's NHS, Canada, Australia and New Zealand's systems leave much to be desired. They are paid for by increased taxation, no property or loan interest write offs. There is no incentive to excel as everyone get's paid the same. I'd like to see a safety net where the government aka the taxpayers would pay after say $50K and we'd have the insurers pay for the first $50K.
Most nations have private insurance systems directed by the government . The UK has a government system called NHS - that's ran like the VA system in the USA. Most European systems are not "free". Part of the reason the European welfare systems are so popular is the USA pays the bulk of the defense budget for Europe.
My humble opinion: health costs would be under control if providers and pharmaceuticals keep their prices reasonable. Why an insurance pays to a pharmaceutical $2400 for a tier 5 antibiotic when without insurance one can buy the same antibiotic for $70 in south America?????
I believe this is what is missing - a solid analysis of why costs are so high. Developing insurance infrastructure such as ACA is bound not be be successful until there's a solid foundation to build them on.
Well, the "no extra charge to MA members" part D drug plan that comes with most MA plans often offers free or nearly free Rx. drugs to its members. Two days ago I picked up my Rx prescriptions from oral surgeon (special post-op mouthwash, a few hydrocodone pills and Amoxicillin) for a grand total of " free, free, and 0.64 cents."
Americans are addicted to taking medications. For every little sniffle they always have to have a pill, they cause antibiotics to become useless. Price of things increase with demand
A secure border and upholding our generous immigration policy which admits 675K vetted people would go a long way towards keeping costs down too. We can look forward to that after January 20. Now if that savings is passed on to healthcare costs has yet to be determined.
FIRST BOOMER MARCH - November 2026. MEDICARE is our TOP PRIORITY. Time to put the current HOUSE on NOTICE. We will VOTE YOU OUT. (Members of the U.S. House of Representatives serve two-year terms.)
Excellent content, thank you. I work in health care and see all the downsides to Medicare Advantage. I dislike the networks and preauthorizations, plus how their "rules" are different from traditional Medicare. I just enrolled in Medicare myself and chose to buy a Medigap supplement (plan G). Sure, it's more expensive, but I had employer sponsored insurance with the same company and loved it (Anthem Blue Cross). It also has travel coverage. Not sure how travel coverage works with Medicare Advantage. Who wants to get stuck with bills that aren't paid by Medicare Advantage.
Lol, it's not so affordable anymore. Remember if you like like your doctor you and keep your doctor, and it will give everyone over grand back in everyone's pocket. Anything the government takes over will cost millions more, and the little people are always the losers.
Noooooo.....does it come with this, the insurance companies can deny care..."it's experimental...." middle men/women pre approving what procedures you get...literally you Doctors have to fight to get the procedures approved.
Rembered on MA plans part B drugs are paid at 80%. With my Evenity for osteoporosis that was 483 a month for a MA plan. Covered in full with my medicare and supplement plan. Cancer drugs are usually part B drugs and are extremely expensive so max out of pocket each year. If you go back to regular medicare and want to buy a supplement plan you must meet underwriting. Not easy to do if you are sick at all. If your plan leaves the area that is an exception to that.
Thank you, Dr. Ed Weir, for sharing your knowledge and guidance. Note that 70% of qualified Medicare recipients do not check their Medicare plans because the fine print is too complicated to understand. Thanks for the Chapter Medicare information.
I have told my sons never take the Medicare Advantage Plan.😢. I know people that are stuck with them. If you have preexisting conditions it is hard to change back to Medicare. My friend said by the time she nearly met her deductible it was time to start all over again. I didn’t want Dr. Oz to get this job. 😢😢😢😢😢
Thank you for this video. I’m not even near retirement but I am thinking of the future with trepidation. We all need to understand what’s going on so that we can fight back and fight for our senior citizens. That’s called solidarity. Something I don’t see often in this country. I only hear well why should I care, it isn’t affecting me right now.
Why do these folks get paid millions and then get bonuses while they let people die? I’ve heard 4 different employees who worked for United Health Care speak and it made me sick to my stomach. Two worked on prior authorizations, they couldn’t take it. They couldn’t tell people no, who they knew needed surgery. Head of insurance for state of Wisconsin went to Congress and also talked with some senators who are involved in insurance decisions. So those folks knew over 2 years ago what United Health Care was doing and they’re still pushing Advantage Plans on us. Money talks. Get rid of lobbyist. Most of our politicians are bought. They get campaign money for favors at our expense. I might as well throw this in. If a politician keeps repeating promises to people and he doesn’t honor those promises. He should get 1 year to make good on his word. Or next in line steps in.
We must barrage our reps with calls, emails, and even mass gatherings to not privatize Medicare. I refused (dis)Advantage. Original Medicare with Supplement G and part D is just fine. And I thank Ed Weir for his wisdom on this choice. As another alternative or backup, keep in mind that one can look into living in another country and/or seek major surgeries in other regions such as Southeast Asia with much lower costs of living, strong US currency exchange rates, and that has advanced technologies, and doctors trained in the US or UK.
Most choose Medicare Advantage because they can't afford Medigap insurance, which covers the 20% that Medicare doesn't cover. If Medicare would cover 100% of Medicare Part B cost, then there would be no need for Medicare Advantage or Medigap.
Medicare pays 100% for the Hospital for 60 days per year, then you have 30 Co-Days that have a co-payment >$700 per day in the Hospital, then when those 60 days & 30 co-days are exhausted, you have 60 Lifetime Reserve Days for Hospitalization that have even bigger co-payments. These Lifetime Days can be used only once in your Lifetime. Therefore a Supplement Insurance is NECESSARY! I’m a RN Case Manager so I know the way it works.
My neighbor is 59 and disabled on SSDI. She does not qualify for the supplement plan with Medicare supplement plans because she’s under 65 years of age and because herSSDI she receives each month is way over Medicaid eligibility. So there are disabled people that are forced to be on Medicare advantage until they turn 65. I feel bad for her because she struggles to find decent doctors
No, no, no, no, no! Making Medicare Advantage MANDADORY...not a good idea at all! I want original Medicare along with my Gap Insurance that I pick out for myself. Dr. Oz is very misguided and I don't think he is qualified for this job!

I thought Medicare didn't provide for vision dental, hearing or drugs without supplement insurance. I assume you pay the $185 for Medicare plus the supplemental insurance. Seems expensive to me.
Medicare advantage, as it currently stands is not a good insurance for all. The only ones that benefit are the very healthy individuals that barely use it. Unlike regular Medicare they pick and choose what you can and can’t have and require a pre-authorization is at high risk of being denied. A lot of hospitals are now not accepting a Medicare advantage plan because they pay so terribly.
I used to work in medical billing and many seniors don't understand their plan. If you have HMO Medicare Advantage, this plan will always need prior authorization from their insurance when your primary doctor refers you to a specialist and no deductible . For PPO/EPO, you can go to any provider anytime/anywhere with no prior authorization but you have to pay deductible. Medicare Advantage is recommended for seniors that have less problem with their health but if you're constantly getting hospitalized then straight Medicare might be the best option for you. I would also recommend to read your insurance policy to better understand how your plan works.
I tried just filling out a questionnaire before the Dec. 7th deadline . I gave up as my cursor or the website wasn't working. I just keep my Basic Federal and try to stay healthy.
NOT true that you need authorization from your primary for everything with ALL MA plans, as long as he/she refers you to a participating provider (IOW, another in-network physician/provider.) Only SOME services require prior authorization. My HMO MA plan has always covered whatever my primary referred me for, and I've had it for 8 years now. If my HMO doesn't cover it, they explain it in a letter to me after the fact, and explain there will be no cost to me because my primary referred me, but they ask me to remind her/him that they won't be paid for that particular fee. (LOL.)
I have Humana's PPO..so I can get dental work, they even sent me a list of all dentists in network near me..I've had Medicare advantage thru them for years and have medicade..so no charge.
@@commonsense6967 With traditional Medicare you don’t need referrals and pre approval. The area I live in is difficult to find any participating physicians. I think it could be great for some, but definitely not for everyone.

True comment! 😢
I’m writing an email today and sending it to all my elected representatives.
They will take the paper and recycle it for "natural" ingredients in your food
They're ALL masons - Fraternity Brothers! So, um, Good Luck!
Excellent points! We pay a fortune for our Advantage plan and next year will be changing to a Medicare supplement plan.
Oz is a huge investor in the insurance co who provide Medicare advantage plans that's what he's pushing for it
@@nosolar2023 True!
@nosolar2023 - yes, to line his own pockets.
The majority of ALL health insurance companies have Advantage plans. I doubt he has invested in every one of them.
Wasn't it Oprah that brought him to the world's forefront?
@rapturereasy5004 - he certainly is Oprah made. Definitely not my choice for overseeing Medicare when he is a q uack.
Obamacare is not the official name. The official name is the Affordable Care Act, ACA
Dr. OZ wants to increase the profits of healthcare insurance companies THAT HE HAS MILLIONS INVESTED IN!
Presently Medicare & Suplimental is best
Only if you are loaded with $$$
We must barrage our reps with calls, emails, and even mass gatherings to not privatize Medicare.
It is expensive but by the time you get done paying for the advantage plan it comes out more
Medicare pays 100% for the Hospital for 60 days per year, then you have 30 Co-Days that have a co-payment >$700 per day in the Hospital, then when those 60 days & 30 co-days are exhausted, you have 60 Lifetime Reserve Days for Hospitalization that have even bigger co-payments.
Thanks!
You’re amazing! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
You'd think Oz would know that this will not go over well for people. Just ask United Health how their 30% rejection rate on claims for their medicare advantage plans worked out for them.
@@edbern7387 Saw footage of people working United. Some said they automatically denied, without even reading the case, under the assumption people will reapply. Disgust
He doesn’t care
I've had a Medicare Advantage plan for a few years now. No problems at all. Works well for me.
me too
My advantage plan has been fine for over 20 yrs- free bifocals once a year- $50 a mo o.t.c.-$250 every Jan for hearing, dental or vision use as chosen- my drugs are free- $50,000 surgeries each for hernia and gall bladder( my cost about $300. Free prime Dr. - $5 specialist. I don't have a long term preference for any care so I don't mind having to use those in the system- I wouldn't know where to go anyway. I thought Medicare didn't provide for vision dental, hearing or drugs without supplement insurance. I assume you pay the $185 for Medicare plus the supplemental insurance. Seems expensive to me.
Hope you stay healthy. 😅
Guessing Oz doesn’t have medicare advantage.
Thank you! Please keep us informed.
NO MANDATORY MEDICARE ADVANTAGE!!!
@@commonsense6967 In network. Are you covered if you’re in an an accident in another state?
@@commonsense6967 With traditional Medicare you don’t need referrals and pre approval. The area I live in is difficult to find any participating physicians.
I think it could be great for some, but definitely not for everyone.
Great idea! Supplemental insurance is up to 400 dollars a month. The advantage medicare is free.
