so cool to see this at a huge FGC event. MR2 proving to be pretty hype as well, most of this top 4 is going 2-2 to the last hit which crazy grits and crits. so fun.
This takes me back to my high school days where me and my friends got our own copies of Monster Rancher 3, we'd train our monster all week and on the weekend, we'd battle them out. It was si cool seeing what new monsters we'd train or captured from the CDs or what new moves our monsters would learn. Such a great game and great tourney here, thanks for sharing Justin!
I wasn't aware this game had a scene... I wasn't even aware this game could HAVE a scene! Monster Ranchers 1, 3, and the two games on GBA were my jam so I'm not as familiar with 2, but I always treated the series as single-player games. Even in cases where I did dip into playing multiplayer, it was just with my brother using our own trained monsters against each other in wildly unbalanced matches. The first round alone is all I needed to see to know that I'm into this, I want to know everything about it.
@@Moosebones I think I saw a Monster Rancher 3 tournament on your channel after I commented on this video, it's definitely great to see that the series still has a community going for it
Bro these are wild, first I saw Kamen Rider, then Bloody Roar and now Monster Rancher. Idk what is going on there but do keep em coming, I love that these games that I used to play as a child are getting some spotlight
HARE SWEEP! And against like, one of the top types of monster, beaten out by jokers and nagas. Man, I've been wanting to do a Hare run on MR DS because of how the game handles blank tech spaces. Make kind of a boxer build that clutches in close range while building up stamina before swapping back into jabs. I think it'd be fun.
I don't expected that this games is still lively played collectively, let alone appears on one of the biggest FGC events in USA. FGC is really something
They did use their own monster. Tourneys in Monster Rancher have stat caps since a full 999 in all stats is not a fun time to play/spectate. With stats maxed it ends up being matches that just run down the clock with no real excitement and variety in play.
You mean Monster Rancher? It's an obscure monster training series, you train and battle monsters. Unlike most others in the genre, battles are real-time and you have to manage your spacing from your opponent at the same time. Monster Rancher 2 was originally on the PS1, but I'm pretty sure they're playing on a port that's on the Switch and Steam (which also includes the first game) that was released recently. Fun fact, part of the appeal of the games was that you could create monsters by loading data from other CDs, though that aspect is harder to replicate on newer systems so it's often replaced with a different mechanic.

Finally, the showcase of a true competitive 1v1. I didn't even know this happened wish I could have caught it live!
Ok I’m confused and I love it. Bless you all.

I wonder if there are Digimon World tourneys, but then I realize how cheesy that game could be at the high level.

Why are their stats locked ? They didn’t brought their own monsters ?
