I watch and save this man’s drum videos because he plays his drums. That’s it. He just plays the drums. I can count on him to play the music. Nothing extra. He just hits the drums; the right way. Only the good stuff from him. I will return again and again for this.
@@KickItLikeBonham I totally agree with the comment. I wish you could do a how to play video and kind of break it down for me. I have a drum kit but I am mainly a guitar player. i still play my guitar along to this awesome drum cover ! That bass drum is killer!!!!!

The guys from Led Zeppelin and Jason Bonham I'm sure have seen you're videos of you playing 🥁. You represent that rock'n roll is not dead and we'll live on forever in some way or another! It's so refreshing just to hear the isolated drums in your videos.
That's very nice of you to say, my friend! Thank you! I worked long and hard on trying to find the right sound for this song, but it was worth every second, and I'm still proud of it all these years later!
I like how you started out is you set up your drum kit in a large garage to make it have that echo effect and sound like if your playing it in a large warehouse or church
Dooood whaaaaat. Holy cow this is amazing. There seems to be more clarity on this take, and I believe this is the closest I've heard anyone get to that iconic Bonzo sound on this song.
Ha, ha! I'm glad you dig it! I was definitely happy to try and focus the sound in a bit more on this one. I had the same experience you did - I put on headphones with the previous mix and found it to be way too boomy. @@RoboToast03 It was actually just a lot of experimenting with stock reverb plugins in ProTools. That gave me the whole image of the kit, and then I messed with the reverb from there. This is the end result of a lot of tinkering 🤗
So, Mr Kick It Like Bonham, We got a new 65" TV today. You broke it in with this video. This is, by far, the best cover video of any instrumentalist covering a drum part. Your tempo lock in the tune is incredible. When I listen to each measure, there not one hint of tempo variation; you are submerged in Bonham's part...Your instrumental voice is not just that of the drum part but that of Bonham's character. You look so relaxed in your playing. It is no wonder when Bonham sat at the drums, the rest of the guys would be confident that Bonham's foundation would be the best possible sound, in the studio or during a live performance. It is so admirable of you to dedicate your talent to the studying and performance of the sound of John Bonham. How about the incredible "Moby Dick" solo I'm watching Bonham play on UA-cam? You are awesome!
Man, I just wanted to let you know that despite how long it's taken me to respond to your comment (*kids*), that it made my day when I first read it! Thank you so, so, so much for everything you said! I can promise I'm going to try and get more videos up as soon as possible! My family and I have been in the process of moving into a new house, and I've been working on getting the garage converted into a studio. I'm thrilled to read it, as that's a huge part of why I started putting these together! Thanks so much for the awesome comment, Dave! All the best to you!
This was definitely a blast of a song to both play and try and engineer! I'm still happy with it, overall, so many years later. Still, I'm going to have to recreate that sound again sooner than later...
By far my favorite Zeppelin song and you crushed it. Been playing guitar for over 40 years though my appreciation for drums is enormous. You are a true inspiration to any musician. Thank you 🤟
Perfect! The people living in Ashville NC are having a tough time right now. Maybe some classic Zeppelin can help them get through this tragic flooding right now. Music can't replace what you've lost during these trying times, but it can help you deal with the emotional problems that are happening. God bless the USA!
Ha, ha! Amongst many other things I love about this song, that Bonham threw that amazing footwork in right at the end of the song is always what gets me the most excited!
I really appreciate the kind words, Andrew! Thanks so much, man! I promise there will be plenty more coming along soon, and I'll keep giving these videos everything I have!
it's like he has the tightness of the skins calibrated perfectly to Bonhams kit. The hig-hat work is spot on. Nice Zildjan resonance, bass drum and kick work simple clean and unwavering.... A+💯👊💪🙏 Go to Chicago!!
It was definitely a labor of love experimenting with the different reverb and delay effects to get here, but all these years later, and I'm still pretty proud of it!
Second channel visit. I had to come to this video. Excellent again! Tremendous work and I think well recorded. The snare, the hit-hat, the kick drum - beautiful! I recognised the mix straight away. Well done indeed. At 5:31 to 5:33 - very good. All credit to you. Thanks for uploading - Liked.

I'm happy you made your way here out of that picture, and I'm hoping to have more content to keep you entertained in the near future...
This song is always a great play-along because of the dynamics and the swing/groove of it all! If ever I lose my way on the drums, I can play along to this and remember what good 'feel' can do for the drums. Thanks so much for the nice comment, man!
Believe it or not, it was just from a stock reverb in ProTools! I was messing around with different delay and reverb settings and came across one that seemed to emulate the effect, so I took that and started tweaking it to get it to where it is here! At some point, I'd like to revisit how I did this (I have to remember, since I originally recorded this back in 2014) and make a video on it!
It sounds 👂🏻 great and just like the real deal because he uses the exact same drum kit 🥁, cymbals and set-up. Oh, and of course because he's an amazing drummer anyone that can exactly replicate Bonham's playing is amazing, because he was always on the backbeat like JB had some drinks 🍺 in him to slightly slow him down. That's my theory 🤔.

I watch this video and the Bonham solo with you on the drums almost every day. Love seeing you play. I feel it's better than Bonham. He took rudiments and applied them to other drums. Revolutionary for the time, but Revolutionary I'm not sure. Was maybe for the time, but applying it to other drums isn't. Buddy Rich, and Gene Kupra did it many years before anyone knew who John Bonham was.

Would love a tutorial on how you got this sound, aside from the drum kit and playing itself (which is amazing). Would love to figure out that delay sound.
I already loved your Achilles Last Stand vid, but the groove of When The Levee Breaks just can't be matched.
