I like the whole "vertical threat" concept, but it only works if the O-line can do their job. If the O-line can't hold up longer than 2 seconds, it doesn't matter to Purdy or the defense where somebody like Cowing is going to be after 3.
Agree, but Brock's mobility helps somewhat. O-Line is being improved with the free agents and draft picks.
Heck, even short range passes against teams like the Chiefs are difficult to come by. During the Super Bowl, the O-line barely gave Purdy a second to get rid of the ball as the Chiefs D-line were in the backfield and in Brock's face almost as if no one was blocking them. 5 Niners O-linemen + TE Kittle couldn't even stop the Chiefs front 4 from pressuring Purdy.
@@LoanwordEggcorn Niners failed to draft a single offensive tackle in a draft that had several good ones. Puni may one day be a starting guard, but they are in desperate need of a right tackle.
@@grimreality451 Both of the guards played some tackle in college. Puni can probably play all five spots.
Like the late rd wr pick determines the Niners season. Negativity permeates like stupidity when not checked.
As a USC alumni. I've seen him a lot the last two years. I was excited to get him in the 5th round. His teammate WR. I won't be surprised if he's the first WR drafted next year also. They are studs in Arizona.
Larry 🫵🏾 called Brock in preseason B4 ANYONE 💯
I really like this guy: him and Slick Rick should get lots of playing time this season: i think Rick will handle the punt return and maybe kickoffs as well
Well, we said Gray would be a vertical threat... kid never saw the field. I understand it may be because he couldn't or wouldn't block, but maybe could've just given him a game or 2 (Gray was hurt as well) to at least see the dynamic he could bring
I have hopes for Cowing tho. Everyone sounds big on him
Tank Dell got hurt last year
So ayuik didn’t give them a vertical threat last year🤣?
Aiyuk is an intermediate threat more than a vertical threat
More Danny Gray kinda movement
Well, you know, if you send 2 guys on go routes deep 0:55 down the hash marks 1 of them should always bee open
Nooooo, Aiyuk was open time and time again on seam routes but Purdy didn’t even try to get the ball to him. Can this guy get open deep? Yes!! Can Purdy get him the ball is the question.
This is so so wrong
The 49ers don't want a vertical threat honestly.
They want 1 or 2 more options to work in between the hash marks within 8 to 12 yards down the field.
I think both of the drafted options do that this season!!
A deep threat usually helps open up the underneath, so it's synergistic. Because of that, Kyle's offense has always benefitted from a deep threat whether it was Marquise Goodwin, Julio Jones, etc.
Cowing can go deep or underneath, which is even better than only a deep threat.
@@LoanwordEggcorn I hear what you are saying but the past is the best predictor of the future.
Kyle Shanahan doesn't runs a lot of 9 routes throwing the ball down the field.
He gets linebackers running right to left and then hits dig routes to the spots where they have left.
That's not going to change.
All the philosophical debates are one thing but the proof is in the Pudding.
He doesn't run go routes that require a lot of speed and 50/50 balls.
@@TOdoubledizzle24 Kyle calls plays depending on personnel. When he has a deep threat like Goodwin, he calls more deep routes. When he doesn't have a deep threat, he doesn't call as many deep routes.
That's why having a deep threat can lead to more deep routes, which in turns opens up the underneath routes more.
Its the exact same thing everyone said about Danny Gray. Cowing is just to frail, too small. Not the best blocker. I hope I'm wrong. Every team we faced in the playoffs had better receivers than we did.
I want what you're on.
