1:43 I really agree with her. Although people in different countries can certainly be more well off and fortunate than others, there is no true happiest country in the world. It just depends on an individual's experiences and their quality of life, as well as how they interpret what a "happy life" is to them.

It's definitely not the happiest country in the world; in fact, life is very rough there. Its idea of "Gross Domestic Happiness' is just a gimmick that its monarch invented to appease the critics for the horrible state of the economy, and this made world news. The fact the monarch put Bhutan at the top of this random list means nothing of course. Actual research shows that today the happiest countries are places like Canada, Norway, and Australia.

I think it's important to distinguish between being happy and being a chauvinist. The french are taught from childhood that the french way is the best, and that france is special. But the french are famous throughout the world for their unhappy outlook on life, and neverending complaining. I would never describe them as happy. it does seem like young french people nowadays are less miserable than preivous generations so maybe there's hope.

@@Mateo-et3wl I think most people make a mistake trying to understand french people. Yes lots of complaints, lots of self-flagellation etc. but chauvinism? I do not think so, rather the opposite. People literally spend their time questioning France and its ways but that is more by nature and education than that they are unhappy with their country or in life. Questioning what you have and criticizing is because you case and does not mean you don't realize how lucky you are with it...hence the replies in the video.

It's very interesting that almost everyone was quick to connect the "happiest country" with a developed country, a rich country.
Sure, living in such a country can reduce some of your problems, but I don't think that this is necessarily connected to happiness.
In fact, when I think about some of the countries that were listed, I do not think about people smiling, dancing, or having fun - which for me, is the translation of happiness, just pure joy.
With that said, to me, the happiest countries are definitely in South America and Africa.
And as a Brazilian, I would have to say Brazil is the most one. Because our people always find a way to laugh at our problems, and in that is the strength to get through it.

I lived in Finland for three months, the level of depression I've experienced was unprecedented in my life. Same applies for the Scandinavian countries, very depressing, people are avoidant, they suck at social relations. Of course, for people who emigrate there to be " supported" on constant basis by the country welfare system it's a paradise, I don't blame them.

@@joang.6664 in my case three months were enough to build an opinion about the country and its people mindset. My ex was Finnish and she totally agreed with my opinion, which is still absolutely personal, but, I still see how many people ( especially many Finnish expats) agree with me. Food is bland, the landscapes are monotonous, social relationships suck, high levels of alcoholism ( amongst the highest in the world) long days in summer and long nights in winter, all of this doesn't surprise me that Finland scores very high in suicide rate. You've to draw your own conclusions once you go there for some months and live with the culture, I still firmly believe the world is full of more interesting countries to visit or even live in. Excellent administration, strong welfare policies and high salaries are not synonymous of a happy society.

I believe ,though, that happiness is an individual state of being that people can create or choose to achieve regardless of country that they live in..It has to do with whatever constitutes their own idea of happiness (health, inner peace, safety, love, friendship etc) in that sense you will find happy or unhappy people in every place.
