It's a really bad sign when the whole motivation behind making your first movie is "I was bored and wanted to make it"
Given 90% of the dialogue is vitriolic bitching about no one respecting artists, I think that's the real motivation, he just wants to whinge that no-one likes his art.
However, the film also can't go 5 seconds without tripping over an embarrassingly amateur mistake, and face planting, methinks it's not that artists are disrespected, and more Calobi is a tallentless boob.
I don't know why I never realized that before. But you're extremely right. 💀

I was surprised
I really, really hope this movie wasn't supposed to really be an inspiring, heartfelt thing, and more of a parody or a joke. There's no way anybody would put that in a movie as a joke and think the movie at the same time was gonna be a masterpiece of hope and creativity, right?

As an actual artist, I am incredibly confused by this film's whole art theme.
Not only is it's animation quality that of a cheap mobile game, but it's boring camera angles, uncreative character designs, crappy art style, and poorly thought out story, scream uncreativity and laziness.
This movie is either the creation of someone in way over their head, or just genuinely bad at everything concerning art, but probably both.
Yeah, with how awful the writing is and how the movie just breaks into long speeches that are trying to sound like they have a point (but in reality sound like intrusive thoughts) out of nowhere, this whole movie screams "I don't know how to make a film with a theme but I'm gonna pretend I do anyway!!!!!"
One of my classes at the beginning of my freshman year taught us about camera angels and how to make animations or videos look better with angels and different POVs. While watching this it just makes me remember my first attempts with camera angels and stuff 😭
People have been throwing around 'ai writing' when describing this with no evidence to support that it is ai generated, but I honestly can't blame them with how the movie is.

And even then, he wasn't really capable of explaining why his movie was good in his opinion. He was like "My movie is great, you're all just jealous! You don't even make movies, so don't judge!"

Funny things about Our Drawings;
- "Wrist waters on my neck" is a reference to one of the Cartoon Beatbox Battle videos
- The,, pebble,, narrator,, thing MIGHT already have been one of Calobi's characters.. alongside Calobi
- Yeah the blue guy's a self insert
I really think it's less "Our Drawings" and more "The Calobi Movie".
I love how it’s very obvious who they wanted to make the fan favorite
- The lyrics in ‘Back to the Drawing Board’ about a “beatboxer from outer space” might actually be referring to VerbalAse, the man who inspired Calobi’s Cartoon Rap Battle series.
In a Developer interview of this movie, it was actually revealed the evil wizard is Eric cartman. (no it didn’t happen but I still can’t get over how visually and sound-wise the similarities are 😭)
44:11 The “beatboxer from outer space” thing is literally a reference to Verbalase who uses it as a tagline/slogan. The SpongeBob reference was not the only thing that somewhat links to Calobi’s former content, even something related to his old beatbox battle videos too.
That and also I feel like it’s meant to be him being all “oh look at me, I’m so much cooler than that verbalase guy” because of a video he made of a beatboxing battle “against” him where Calobi made himself look like a god of beatboxing

Eminem has been real quiet since beatboxing puppy dropped his album "Beatboxing Puppy" with the iconic hit "I'm the Beatboxing Puppy"
Its funny that it's meant to be about imagination or sonething, but when the wizards drawing doesn't come to life, he gets lambasted for lacking skill and to give up, which is completely at odds with the proposed moral.
It just reeks of scorn and eliteism, like the writer it lording their skills.
Ironically, it could been explained that it didn't work because he didn't put his heart into it, but that would make the film even more hypocritical.
I love the fact that at the start of the 'movie' one of the characters points out that the teacher is passed out
And then they all just pass out too like no ones gonna think they're in a coma or something
I think it needs to be stated, the "Wrist Waters on my Neck" thing is probably like the biggest cope Calobi has in the film
The phrase comes from one of Calobi's older projects, Cartoon Rap Battles (think like animated Superman vs Batman, or Gumball vs Finn), Most of his Rap Battles reuse the exact same animations over and over again, and, specifically in his Mario vs Sonic Cartoon Rap battles, Mario says the phrase
"Ice on my Shoes, Wrist Waters on my Neck, Nice Brother choose, his daughter then I left!" and EVERYONE was mocking his rap battles for how bad every aspect of them were, the bars were about as good as a moldy twix bar and the animations were lazy at best, traced and copied over on average, so him making Wrist Waters into some random power phrase has to be the biggest "NO IM NOT CRINGE, I WAS COOKING" flag ever lmao

Me and some friends did a live dub of this movie. The plot we improv’d of the cast trying to stop the evil guy from using the power of the PS2.5 was infinitely better than the plot of the actual movie.

Personally I don’t think that they actually took six years to make this film, my assumption is that calobi and his sla- I- I MEAN, team, tried to make the movie five or six years ago and just gave up, and then later just kinda finished it in the fastest, most time and cost efficient way and then said it took them “””””sIx YeArS tO mAkE””””” to make it sound like some impressive passion project
Heard another theory that he had THOUGHT of this movie for about 4-5 years, and actual production for 1-2 years.
Six team members for a whole year, that equals six collective years. I have no doubts that is the logic that they used to come to that number.

If I ever make my own animated movie, I would go out of my way to make it good, alongside it referencing silent cartoons and stuff. Hmm.
I’ve watched nearly half of the video, and this movie just seems like a massive ego trip for the creator, I mean, their mascot is in the movie, the ice cream sandwiches are littered all over this imaginary world, I mean the character’s voice is likely literally just the creator speaking without any sort of organic tone change despite how the character physically looks, very weird.

My guy If it was an SFM/YTP animation just for pure entertainment sure planety of those. Tho the entire point of them is that they are goofy. Wish was a waste of potential, and I feel that it is overhated. It is a sub-par movie, but there are much worse things out there that look much worse. At least wish was pretty.
On the other hand, the Red Ape family is WAAAAY worse than this one. The primary reason is that it is a shameless attempt to make money off of a dying experiment that helped nobody. It was also hard to follow and had no real substance when it came to what it was trying to show.
Out Drawings is less unforgivable than RAF, but that is because it isn't trying to scam someone out of money.

On a sound design and voice direction perspective this feels awful
Mic clipping, attacks sound like wet slaps without any impact whatsoever (not like the fight scenes HAVE impact in the first place) and I can DEFINITELY think that one of the comic relief characters is doing a "lemme get uhhhhh" bit like he's ordering Macca's but the voice direction makes it insufferable
I legitimately thought I was high halfway through the video. My mind completely left me behind near the end of the movie because I could not comprehend what the hell was going on

Balan Wonderworld: The Movie
There was a comment in one of the "out of context" videos that called this movie "royalty free Kingdom Hearts," and I feel like that is the most accurate description of this movie.
That’s kind of an insult to Balan, because at least Balan had some creativity

I’m currently been working on getting my major in story and concept in animation. And if I’m being honest, from all the videos I’ve watched talking about this horrendous, selfish, narcissistic mess that is calobi’s “movie”… it makes me want to just use my major to one up it just to mess with them… just making a large multi artist project out of it.

I return! I did what I said I would and rewrote the plot and story as well as giving more agency to the human characters, and personality.
The main message is that artist shouldn’t be bringing others down in the community but instead support each other in the face of adversity and challenges thrown at them. And even as things change and adapt, you shouldn’t be afraid of it and use it as it was meant to.
(Ai generated images are intended to just be a helpful tool for artists who are struggling to find that one specific source of inspiration or reference to aid them in what them make. Like I’ve used it to help me figure out just exactly what cricket/viddle inspired prosthetic legs cause I couldn’t find anything close to what I was imagining. I mostly used photos but it wasn’t exactly close but I saved to reference it later.)
It was honestly a very fun three hours I spent on a silly thing :3

Calobi constantly going on about this movie taken six years to work on does not feel right; with how very simple the animation is and how often this film references very recent events, especially the segment about AI artwork, really feels more like this has been something in production for maybe a year and a half. Six years might be plausible that he's been poking at the concept for this for that amount of time, but what we see does not feel like half a decade's work.
Six years isn't even the longest production for an animated movie, either. That honor goes to The Thief and the Cobbler, which holds the record for the longest production time of 28 years. The movie spent almost 30 decades in production, due to the complex animation sequences, the fact it was independantly-funded & that a major part of the voicework, Vincent Price, ended up dying during the production. And that's a movie that shows it's a 28 year long odyssey of 2D animation; this really does not feel like it's been in the works for 6 years.
The thing about AI being brought up is also something that makes me a bit suspicious, especially with how nonsensical this movie is. Especially at the beginning, where she's given 5 different origin stories to her powers in the span of 10 minutes. Like, that's either the product of ChatGPT trying it's damnedest to make a script with the prompts Calobi gave it and just running with the first result without reading it fully, or this is the product of someone who's a bit insane.

When you told me the premise of this movie, I thought to myself, "okay, it's going to be bad from an objective standpoint because it was made by one guy, but like, you have to cut it some slack for what it is; I'm going in with an open mind." But I can't even get through the damn intro, 9 minutes into THIS VIDEO is when I gave up. It's not because of the animation, or the voice acting, or the visuals at all; it's the writing itself. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TELL A STORY! You do not dump all the information about your main character onto your audience in a big opening narration, that's like preschooler levels of storytelling! And doing it TWICE, no less?! Seemingly just so you can gas up how awesome your main character is?! No. Nope, I can't do this, I'm done, I'm out, sorry Daniel T. Gaming but I cannot watch this video and expose myself to more of this movie. It's not your fault, you didn't do this, I just cannot afford to lose more brain cells and I'm afraid your reactions won't save enough of them.

What's interesting is I think this movie is a great example of how NOT to write a story, like good enough that you should watch it to know what not to do lol. A great example is every character introducing themselves by straightforwardly telling everyone who they are, what they're doing and why they're doing it. Even in media meant for young children its not this direct and plainly stated. It feels more like the notes you write about the characters during the planning phase, as opposed to the final product.

i think my favorite part about this movie is the fact that in the description he says he'd worked on it for 6 years. which means that the pop culture references in various parts of the film from like 2022 imply he wrote the script last
