For those that don’t know Paula was Janet’s Choreographer and taught her all those dance moves she did in her early career as a single music artist and her successful music videos and live performances. Paula is responsible for some of Janet’s success.

You can not expect them to dance as great as this and sing perfectly live. Impossible when you're dancing like this. Not enough breath.

They have different styles of dancing. Paula moves are polished and on point. Janet is more smooth and free flowing. They are both great dancers.

Sorry, but Paula didn't sing live and she hardly does. She lipsynched that entire performance as many others that she did. I live her sings, but let's not get it twisted. As far as singing in tune, nah. Like Whitney said, she sang off key on the actual recordings of her songs.

WE, just don't get choreography like this in todays music. Damn I'm so Freaging glad I was born at a time to know what real music and dance was/ possibly still could be.
They are both amazing. You can really tell that Paula is a professional dancer though. She never falls out of sync with the other dancers, it's always spot on. She's never rushing or behind, nails it. I really miss seeing Paula perform. You can also tell Paula was a cheerleader, her lifts are effortless. Ok, Im done fangirling.

You can see the influence of her brother Michael in Janet's moves. Her's is a blend of Paula Abdul and Michael Jackson's...... She goes from one to other seamlessly.

Both were fantastic. While I prefer the style of Janet's dancing in this performance more, I feel Paula had the more difficult performance overall. But man, this era was great for dancing and pop music. Lots of talent and it only flirted with the sexiness; it was just the right amount.
They were both insanely talented women. You can't compare. They both had their own style. When I see Janet like this, she makes me think of Michael. They were both so talented in their own right.

When she started to wear crop tops around the 93 Janet era, other stars like Britney, Christina, and Aaliyah started to wear them as well in the late 90s, so Janet made that more popular among fashion. During the 80s and also the early 90s, style was a lot different, Janet definitely changed the game not just with her music, but also with fashion in general.

Abdul choreographed Ms. Jackson, ZZ Top, George Michael, and MANY others. Janet can sing and dance with the best of them once she learns the dance (Scream anyone 😉)? But Abdul's Cold Hearted Snake vid has the toughest moves I've seen any artist do - including Madonna and Beyonce. There is no "versus" - both Janet and Paula are amazing dancers, and Paula continues to train dancers.

I really like Janet Jackson and I am much more a fan hers than I am a fan of Paula, but damn... Paula poured kerosene on stage, set on fire and later sweeped all that was left. And ALL OF THAT WHILE WEARING HEELS. Such a shame she is not touring, because I was wowing every 30 seconds of her dance performance.

Had it been released just once in 1990, it would very likely manage to reach the top just as the rest of her four number-one singles from the Abdul's debut set.

Both ladies are excellent dancers. Their dancing is not comparison though. Janet more routine and She throws her own swag in there. Paula is on a competitive level. She came from cheering, competition type of dancing. You can see how she flows and drags and glides her feet. Both ladies are phenomenal.
Paula was the one who choreographyed Janet Jackson. Therefore the whole segment of dancing is Paula Ab Dulu. She taught Janet when she did the song Principle of Pleasure which came out in the mid-eighties.

Janet had the best dance break ever filmed with "IF", and was untouchable choreography-wise during her Rhythm Nation and janet. eras, but there's just something about Paula's dancing that, even when shes doing modern pop-dance, you can still see her professional training informing her moves.
Well stated. Paula was the polished and professional dancer, but Janet had better backing, music, and what's more it was really coming from her. Each album was about what was going on in her life and not just a "pop" album imo anyway. The Times were the best overall! No matter who you like better, there was no better time to be alive than the 90's (and the last of the great music)

Here we are July 2020 and i still remember this show from way back. Both performers put on a great show that night. I still remember watching this show on tv i even recorded it on a VHS tape. Paula Abdul opened the show and she definately brought down the house that night with her spectacular performance.
Both great dancers. Paula gets extra points for the complexity of her choreography as well as singing at least part of her music live. Both icons still.

Okay so I was Today years old when I learned that Paula was a Choreographer for JJ. If you watch PA performance, and see just the intro to JJ, you can see the OBVIOUS influence. And her brother is in there too. But she does it in such a beautiful and fun way. Both performers were amazing and honestly, JJ is a phenomenal dancer, and whatever work her and PA did together is ART.

It takes visionary’s to build a star choreographers, production teams , writers ect . Back in the eighties it was those videos that Paula Abdul choreographed shot Janet Jackson to super stardom. I think its the other way around. Its not until I saw Paula in the nasty video, I found out about her and that she was a choreographer and then when she started singing I was into it only because I knew her from Janet.

Two of my favorite female performers ever. And great friends and collaborators too. Each unique but similar as well. I love their sharp dressed looks during this period. Showing no skin whatsoever, but so beautiful and captivating. Just amazing women. Female performers since couldn't find better role models than these two gems.

She wasn't her "teacher" as such, she was her choreographer primarily in the 80s.

Wow. Well this was the first time I"ve seen Janet outdanced. Watching their performances side-by-side makes it easier to tell who the better dance was. But after that, they both lip synced and performed good songs well. I think I'll choose Janet simply because I liked her song better and she's Janet. But Abdul didn't suck at all
