I have raised both my boys carrying them like that on my back while doing house chores.
I find it comforting not only for the child but also for me.

We still carry them like that here in 🇿🇦,usually with a towel and fasten with a large safety pin or just tuck in the ends where you can (usually depending on the weight of the baby)

I carried my three babies on my back in New Zealand. I remembered my Mum sending me “Oja”, the material you use in supporting the baby after wrapping them with the wrapper. It’s so nice to see you carry Ada on your back. Enjoy.

I'm a USA mixed race African American, and a grandma now. But thirty something years ago I carried my son like that. My fully nursed baby was large and two, really well built strollers broke under his weight. A friend of mine showed me how to tie him onto my back, and we were off! 👍🏼 No more stroller nuisance.

In Suriname (South America) it is still very common to carry babies like that, especially in maroon communities where the typical African traditions have been well kept, but the Javanese (descendants from Indonesia) and the Indigenous women do it as well. The difference is in the material used. Nice watching you do that. Nice fabric too.

I'm from South Africa and I remember carrying my baby cousin the same way. I've seen mothers carry their babies on their back so that they can do chores around the house. This soothes babies because they are mostly with the mum and the mother's voice sort of echoes on her back.
