I love that these old trailers had so many instances of them having the characters shoot in random directions and blowing stuff up to make the game look more action packed then it ever really was XD
Fun fact: If you play Sviridov's "winter road" over the first trailer in this video. the duration and progressions of the song will match up almost immaculately. It kinda makes me think they might have used the song as a placeholder before making their "own version" of it.
I watched the second trailer when I was a kid. It was so cool. I loved the action and really wanted to go around and shoot everyone. So I (my mom) bought the game. There was two discs. I took the first one and got killed really fast at the beginning of the game. And I was like « meh this game sucks, we can’t do like the trailer ! let’s see the second disc ». The second disc of course didn’t work. Then I played again and I started to like it more and more. To this day it’s still in my top 10 favorite games. Amazing memories. I also remember calling my big brother to help me for the torture scene and my neighbor for the final boss.
A good majority of this footage were in Metal Gear Solid VR Missions, a seperate spin off game featuring exclusively VR missions themed around the mechanics and weapons of mgs1.
@@SILVRXIII Yes, my biggest gripe with TTS was the over-the-top cutscenes. They were too much. MGS4 also had crazy things going on but at least it didn't have anything I could compare it to (like an older version of MGS4). Plus, MGS4 is lower on my list of the best MGS games, personally. MGS5 I own but never got around to playing. I did play the demo but after the main story concluded with MGS4, I had no motivation to play anymore new MGS games.
I don't think I've ever seen that early 3DO trailer before, which is surprising. It definitely looks like there is approximately zero percent playable game in there--but still cool, I wonder how far they made it before jumping ship to PlayStation.
How lucky are we that we got the final product and not a version more similar to the first trailer shown in this video? It looked horrible lol. MGS as it was released looks good.
it's obvious some of these are faked and not on hardware. unless it was coming to n64 (unlikely, as the audio file size requirements of the game make a cartridge release near impossible) the level of texture filtering on display means it was most likely target/test render and gameplay concepts running on 3d workstations of the time.
“Faked” isn’t the right term to use. Much of this is prototype. It’s not uncommon for prototypes to be prerendered because they serve as a purpose to conceptualize what the goal of the final product will be. Game prototypes are originally created as a pitch to the executives and producers to give the greenlight on development.
@@NatsumiTakanawa I get what you’re saying but isn’t using it as a trailer kinda misleading as it makes it appear to be the final product? I would say in that circumstance faked is the right word to use
I'm not 100% sure but I remember early on it was called just metal gear and was going to be on the 3DO. There's videos and magazine scans I believe. These graphics look more like what M2 was supposed to be capable of,, too bad that system only had a couple arcade games and ended up in car dealership kiosks.. On this video tho I noticed playstation button prompts so this is likely after they changed target systems.
@@ITRASHBOATI Learn what "conceptualized" means. It's a concept, or a pitch, of what they anticipate the game will look like, not as it appears in the final product. Rarely if ever does a pitch for a game or any media exactly match the output of the released product.
etal gear solid 1 is and was a product designed for the first playstation, it was never idealized for 3DO, there are many interviews by kojima that say so
If Hideo Kojima could've waited for another 3 years and released the MGS1 on the PS2 platform, that would have been more awesome. Well, let's just hope Konami won't fuck up with the MGS3 Remake and plan to remake the MGS1 someday.
The first prototype is my favourite! I like the Metal Gear Solid font, and the overall Esthetiq it reminds me of Robocop style somehow! I think it was made on SGI station the modelling , texturing rendering and animation.

Same here I remember playing the demo and falling in love with the game.
Pizza Hut Baybee
Same!!! The most iconic scene on this trailer was the C4 explosions, man more than 20 years had passed and i still remember it!
got introduced the same way once i played it could not get enough
This was probably the most EPIC trailers for a PlayStation 1 game, at that time! you knew you were witnessing the rise of a legendary franchise!

8:49 that scream lol
I remember that. I think that was stock audio. LOL 😆
There was no scream at that timestamp.
@@BlatantThrowAway weird it must have gotten fucked-with. Corrected it.
It’s clearly a stock audio we can hear in many other outlets.
This game will always have a place in my heart.
I love to see these differences that had in the early versions of development
I’d kill to play that early build of the game with the beta version of the heliport

Japan is always so secretive with their prototypes :( this was nice though.

Half right. In Japan, VR missions was the third disk. It was all one game

Hideo Kojima’s finest
One of my all time favorites. Not that crappy Nintendo Twin Snakes remake either. The PS1 version.
Twin Snakes is amazing you're just nostalgic. People's biggest concern was the over the top cutcenes but MGS2, 4 and 5 had some ridiculous cutscenes.
You can always sell your Twin Snakes copy for £60 on Ebay...
They actually sell for that price.

To be fair...this prototype looks incredibly cool, its a shame that we can't get our hand on it
this most likely wasnt anything thats playable. it was a trailer rendered on a pc completely seperate from the game being developed.
It was very interesting to watch it. I can imagine what a brain explosion it was in 1998.
MGS, hermoso, magnífico, perfecto!!
I remember as a kid watching the trailer, specifically 8:30 - 9:01 and wondering how the hell do I do this in game! Thank you for this nostalgia.
same thing I was thinking!

why didnt they leave that flying kick? its awesome

the animation was just horrible and they kept it for 2

Yeah. Plus you can’t understand anything they’re saying. Woulda definitely taken away from the final game.
Thats because it would be originally released on the 3do before it was developed for the PS1.

looks better than final game
Because it was meant to be on 3DO,also these are pre-rendered.
