Rim of the brass to base of crimp is irrelevant as different feds have different base wads and thus different internal volumes. There are a couple different domestic plastic base wads along with fiber base wads and about half the feds i pick up are actually rio. Just look at the base wad and separate them that way. I use a lot of the cheddite primer but it's not as hot as a fed and one should note you will have to use different load data with it.
@@chase3760 I’ve heard bad things about cheddite primers but never tried them. That’s about the only primer I can find now so I’ve been considering them, this gives me hope that they are ok
Basic it is not!! There is nothing basic, each shell has it's own peculiarities. I have found differences in same brand and production runs. Thanks for the input.
Reloading from Illinois. Love your video 👍🏼
Thanks
Good information . I’ve. Been trying to reload Federals with clay buster wads and getting horrible Crimps!
One thing to look for is that Federal has various shell lengths. Federal is one of my favorites'.
Well said
thanks

Thank you for saving me the trouble of posting this. He struggles. I was cracking up when he measured to the crimp.
what recipe are you using for the Pink Federal Top Gun Hulls?
1 1/8 8 shot, red dot powder 18.2 g, wad Claybuster cb2118-12, primer cheddite. I have used this with 15K shells a year.

@@ivanwesley8182 I have never had a problem with Cheddite primers, and i have used them for years.
Federal wads are straight walled. Remington hulls are tapered. Basic.

Field & Target... not Field & Steam...
