Richard Lester, (Old Hunter). You are the truth, what you are saying is very true and is exactly, I miss it. keep up the good work and I enjoy your videos. GOD BLESS YOU!
Hugh point. always always good to have ( what I call a line running dog) I the pack. now not to say that this line running dog doesn't have foot. it's equally important that they drive just as well as not to be 10 15 yards or more in the back. sometimes that respected line runner with pull the front runners back that will also cause problems in the race.. excellent point in having a lead line runner but also with that drive.. even though they hold the middle to the back of the pack..
Great point just because a dog leading the pack doesn't always mean it's the pack leader he/she may just be the faster dog. I've noticed majority of the time the pack leader is usually in the middle of the pack. Every so often you get a dog that's gone be your fastest n pack leader but not very often. N great pack of beagles I enjoy rabbit hunting myself.
Yeah, that's why it's good to have several great beagles in one pack so that all of them will make a significant contribution to the run. I like my beagles to be a little independent so that one beagle will not dictate the entire run. Good deal!
What a great video. Just what I was looking for, I have puppies that lead the pack that will overrun the track and I have a 6 year old that will not move on a track unless she's smelling the true rabbit track. I just don't know how to slow my puppies down to where I can run them without my older dog. I have 4 young dogs all are too fast and over running the track how do I train them individually to stop and work it out once they've overran it?
Jordan Parker I would run them 2 at a time. With more time in the woods without the older beagle, they should settle down and not overrun the track as much.
I have a solution i use too use is loosen up there color enough too run one of there front feet into.. an run them at night so they have too use there nose more.. it works wonders.. don't worry it want hurt them. It actually makes them focus more... God bless an best of luck with breaking them in...
Donavan Worley TreP 901 I put a Training Beagles DVD together for you to see and learn the techniques I use to break beagles - www.bensonskennel.com/product-page/training-beagles-dvd-professional-beagle-training-guide. Also, I have some videos on here that will help you break your pups. Good luck!
+sheina peacock The tone feature will be your best friend. You should not have to shock her much (maybe once or twice on very low), but the tone feature will teach her to come when called.
+Jackie Wu try to tone him then press the shock button. This will teach him that the tone comes first then the shock. Hopefully, after a few times of this he will respond to the tone. Also, you may have the shock feature to low based upon his tolerance level. I've learned that they learn more quick if you increase the level of the shock feature (most of the time). I would rather shock them 2 times at a higher level than 10 times at the low level. I rarely use the shock feature more than a few times on a beagle in their entire life span. Tone is my best friend!
Benson's Kennel thank you for your advice. i am taking him to a training class next month although i was told that beagles despite trained or not will still chase after scents because its in their blood...
I asked because i use to run my dogs from 8 till around 12 and after a while when i went hunting with friends on all day runs my dogs started to fall out of the chase when that time reached
When I build a TCP I consider the lead dog and the trail dog as the most important elements of the pack. I like "cold nosed" dogs as pack dogs (Slots 2 &3) because they hold the line at the point of loss and can smell scent perhaps better the 1 dog. A good 4 slot dog knows whats happening in front of it and should start to adjust speed to hold the line. To be successful in a TCP Hunt Test the pack needs to hold what they've got and perhaps adjust back to a their normal running order as they go but each must be capable of running anywhere in the pack. ...in TCP it's efficiency not speed....the pack needs to hold the line no matter what speed they run in order to win.....a good pack can run till you shot it, it holds up, they catch it or you call them off.....losing it is totally unexceptionable.
Kwalk Beagles very good point! I will refer back to this comment several times. You broke it down in a way that is very interesting! Thanks for comment!
I sell a few beagles each year. I'm planning to bred more so that I will be able to provide beagles to those who have requested some. Check with me this summer, I may have some pups for sale.

Insightful video! Good eye!
nice very educational video
+Brad Parker I just try to share what knowledge I've gained! Thanks for watching!
I just came froma hunt. Thinking about starting a pack, but I am a novice.
What do you mean by saying the dog "gambles?" Why is that good?

Ayye I have a question on how to collar break your beagles ??
Donavan Worley TreP 901 I put a Training Beagles DVD together for you to see and learn the techniques I use to break beagles - www.bensonskennel.com/product-page/training-beagles-dvd-professional-beagle-training-guide. Also, I have some videos on here that will help you break your pups. Good luck!
Is there any way I can teach my beagle to be better offleash? My beagle is great offleash but I don't trust her to go to far. Any tips?
+sheina peacock Try using a training collar with tone/shock. After a few corrections your beagle will come around. Good luck!
+sheina peacock The tone feature will be your best friend. You should not have to shock her much (maybe once or twice on very low), but the tone feature will teach her to come when called.
my beagle doesnt respond to the vibration and audio. it seems only the shock mode could bring him back but that is just painful to see

True I think that come in time or age
Good point!
just wanted to know how long should a run be?
Jerome Alexander no time length, whatever length you desire...
I asked because i use to run my dogs from 8 till around 12 and after a while when i went hunting with friends on all day runs my dogs started to fall out of the chase when that time reached
Are those 15 inch or 13 inch beagles?
Thomas Schwartz both sizes!
Rabbit season is in now we just wait on it to get cold
We should be starting up in about 2 weeks!

I'm going to
Do you sell dogs?
I sell a few beagles each year. I'm planning to bred more so that I will be able to provide beagles to those who have requested some. Check with me this summer, I may have some pups for sale.
Thanks. Will do.
this is my first time buying hunting dogs how many dogs do I need just for me starting out
James Wilson 1-3 beagles normally works well when you are starting out.
Dogs running with their heads up sight chasing the pack. If it can't solo a rabbit by itself it won't eat at my house.
Lol all my dogs run with there head up they feed there selves
Experience speaking
Ok
