Taemin is a great performer and awesome dancer. He's extremely popular and has been in Kpop for over 12 years. He's also friends with Jimin and Kai. All are known as the best dancers in kpop.
I'm surprised someone actually didn't like the video visuals. I understand why he wouldn't like maybe especially on first watch. But Taemin does help in directing the music videos and actually added the part were you hear reporters news talking(I think he's had more creative freedom since MOVE). He gave a brief explanation that there's an evil taemin and a victim taemin. He's a victim but doesn't hate it that much. It shows the process of him assimilating to the criminal, so you can think of it like the "Stockholm Syndrome.
Right, he should’ve watched the dance practice then comment. I also get how that style of dance isn’t for everyone and expressing it is fine but calling it trash was still uncalled for IMO.

I really don’t get what that guy was saying about the video or the choreography because i love both of them and never heard anyone call it trash but to each their own…😟
"Criminal" is part of Taemin's 3rd Korean solo album called Never Gonna Dance Again. It is part of a trilogy which started with his prologue "2 Kids," and continued with "Criminal" which is part of Act 1 of the album. And it was followed up by "Idea" which is part of Act 2 of the album and it brings the whole concept full circle. As Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. '2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of '2 Kids' as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.” And just so you know, Taemin is not the criminal in the song. He is the victim who is being held captive by the criminal who is the lover that he is singing about (i.e. the pressure he feels under as a Kpop idol). The song is about living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed by a lover to the point where he is suffering from stockholm syndrome and he has now fallen in love with the person (or thing -- i.e. his career) who is inflicting all the pain and suffering on him. Even though he is being abused by that person (possibly a metaphor for the pressure he is creating for himself with the need to always be the best in everything he does) he can't help but love them and allow them to continue to hurt him, etc. Fun fact: It was Taemin's idea to include the police blotter/news clips in that part of the song. If you notice, the sound bites are from all over the world and they are speaking multiple languages. This albums whole concept is a metaphor for his life and career. With every release from this album, the concept was designed to be darker then the last. In "2 Kids" he was emotionally and physically beating himself up with regrets and in "Criminal" he was living in a toxic relationship. And "Idea" takes the theme one step further, and says that even though it was my idea and my plan to live this life, nothing comes without a price, and because of that need for perfection, any chance of being average or living a regular life is pretty much dead. Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today. Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two BEST dancers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. (Kai from EXO -- Taemin's best friend since they were trainees, who is also under SM Entertainment, as well as a member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on both Taemin and Kai by their peers and the industry as a whole. There is literally no one considered better than them. But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does. All of Taemin's dances tell a story. As he has said, he specifically designs his choreography to be a part of the story within the song and MV. So, "Criminal" is supposed to be slightly creepy, as well as sexy. As part of the story, he has been held captive for so long that he is now suffering from stockholm syndrome, so he is no longer fighting the abuse and that is why at the beginning of the dance you see him throw his bindings away. The criminal (which is a metaphor for the pressure he has felt in his career) no longer has to tie him up to keep him there. (Because he has falling in love with the pain and suffering he inflicts on himself as a artist, etc.) The backup dancers represent the forces he is struggling against as he fights with his mind over whether to stay or go, etc. What you just witnessed is art in its purest form. Taemin is unlike any other artist in the industry. You should check out Taemin's dance practice video for "Criminal" to see how magnificent of an artist he really is. For "Criminal" Taemin had 3 or 4 different choreographers who collaborated to come up with this choreography and several of his backup dancers are also choreographers. You have to be amazing in order to keep up with Taemin, so his dancers are extra special. His choreographer for his song "Move" was also involved in "Criminal." Now after more than 13 years Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles (he is only 28) and, yet, he often has the most seniority and experience. He is so well respected that everyone looks up to him. As a member of SHINee, Taemin is expected to constantly be coming out with something you have never seen or heard before. SHINee's whole concept is that they are SM's experimental boy group, which means that they are ALWAYS changing up their sound and style and reinventing the industry with every new release of theirs, even within the same album. The industry looks to the members of SHINee to show them what the next style of song and dance will be. Redemption 46, I know that everybody has their interpretation of what they think the music video “Criminal “ means but actually it Has to do with Stockholm syndrome it is with him identifying with the captor, the criminal that has kidnapped his heart and with Stockholm syndrome The person who has been kidnapped starts to have a psychological bond with their captor while they’re in captivity. TAEMIN is saying that this person who is in love with them who’s toxic relationship has captivated him that he didn’t want anything to do with it and now psychologically has this bond where everything that this person does to them in the relationship he has developed Stockholm syndrome where he psychologically accepted it and bonds with that toxic person in the relationship!!
'Disappointed in whoever was behind the video'... oof. Uh, Taemin worked closely with all 3 directors. He also helped pick out scenes that made it in the final piece and storyboarded. Jo Beomjin/VM Project was also the PD (Idea, Press Your Number, Drip Drop, Don't Wanna Cry, 7th Sense, Call Me Baby, Dumb Dumb, Monster, Whistle by BP). How do you not get obsessed with the camera work in the beginning highlighting the dance? That takes so much technique. It's that attention to detail that led Taemin when he helped with SuperM and SHINee MVs later. The shot of the red cloth going up in his face to cover him is reversed. Everything has a meaning and purpose. Also the dude on the right is correct - hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil and all those internal and external trappings are symbolized in the MV. He also does have several videos and interviews explaining the story and albums and his own duality and struggles in an industry where he has to fight tooth and nail for everything even when he plans all his concepts so it's still acceptable to a general audience. One of the best things about Taemin is he's one of the few artists who is willing to expose the process and explain his purpose while also respecting the consumer's interpretation.
If Curtis don't do nothing else he's going to pick up Taemin's concept!!🔥 I love that. You pay a great deal of attention to detail, and that's exactly why he puts so much into what he does. It's not simply about enjoying the song or video, it's about taking in both as a full package to get the whole story, and I love that you get that pretty much everytime. It makes me happy that Taemin's work is being consumed the way it's meant to be☝🏾🙏🏾
The video, styling and choreo was subpar????? oof Anyways Taemin is the solo idol blueprint, the og Ace of Kpop and his music catalog is pretty long and diverse so if you’re looking for the rest his music to sound like Advice or Idea y’all are going to be disappointed (especially going backwards). Hearing anyone call a Taemin video “mid” made me cringe but it’s cool 🤷🏽♀️ Edit: I think if the video seems subpar to others I wonder if it’s the result of SM completely sidelining his project to push out multiple SuperM releases and promotions at the same time. His album and promotions where put on the back burner (which he publicly talked about) so since he wasn’t really even the priority during his own comeback I wonder if that may be an after effect of it. I will not entertain the idea that this choreo is trash though, Taemin’s choreo and his dance style has never been commercial and he likes to choose a select few choreographers so I understand if it isn’t appealing to everyone but it’s insulting to dog on it when the mv isn’t even mainly choreo focused.
Taemin is the very essence of Art. This Trilogy is really about his Duality as an artist and performer vs who he is in real life. The artist in him is like a criminal that takes him over
I find this interesting because Criminal was my gateway into k-pop. I’d seen a few k-pop videos before and none of them did it for me, but as soon as I saw Criminal I fell in love with it. I think it really just comes down to personal preference. Do I think it’s his best video? No, I think that title goes to Move because it ages like fine wine. I still think it’s great though and definitely up there with some of his best
You can actually go wild with your analysis with Taemin vids, his artistry is packed with visual both MVs or live stages, he said that while music is auditory, he wants to create music that draws a picture, activates your imagination, music you see with your eyes, and that's exactly what some of you experience. It's MIND BLOWING watching you guys and unfold his intentions to my very eyes! Great catch to Lady Gaga, devil's advocate, Sephiroth & GTA references. For me Criminal Taemin is like Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul Taemin is not basic or should I say mainstream you can't really pin point his music genre, that's why we call it TPOP, yes it has some influences, sound and video wise but he made sure it is distinct TAEMIN style. Please react to any of his official dance practices. This choreo is inspired by how a person is seen from the perspective of a dead person. His choreography being unconventional is intentional, it's like art in motion or art piece coming to life. Taemin is for someone who has a capacity to appreciate higher form of art, as most crtics said bec his music is not just any music, it is crossing the art realm. Pls react to more Taemin & SHINee ofc on your own time or share your reaction to us. Thank you for this content, your work & effort are highly appreciated, makes missing Taemin bearable, less than a year till he comes back :(
SMH not everyone can understand Taemin's artistry. I'm sorry he doesn't make mid commercial pop music for small minded people. He's a real artist that uses symbolism and imagery in his art and that's what makes him unique and a legend. Junior idols literally have Taemin as their number 1 role model as they should. THE ACE, THE IDOL OF IDOLS. KING OF KPOP

As promised, here's my super long explanation with a bit of my own interpretation. It does focus more on IDEA though. IDEA is based on Plato's Theory of Forms or *IDEAS* - often capitalized & pronounced as *ee-deas* originally in Greek. It translates to "forms" or "idea." That's why Taemin says "ee-dea" instead of "idea" in the MV. So, Criminal was based on stockholm syndrome. But instead of describing a 2nd person or a lover, he portrayed himself as both the criminal & the victim, depicting an abusive mindset or a toxic relationship with himself (his inner self). Whether we realize it or not, I'm sure we've all somewhat had those moments in life where 2 or more different sides of ourselves made us a slave to the "criminal & victim" nature of our own thoughts & actions. For Taemin specifically, this can refer to a number of things: his love for dancing/singing, idol lifestyle, his artistic career in general, etc. In the MV, Taemin shows 2 different personas/"egos" of himself. One is trying to evolve & create a new identity, but the "criminal Taemin" is "brainwashing" & sweet-talking this new "ego" to keep him a prisoner within himself as Taemin is more familiar/comfortable with his current persona/identity. Now before diving into IDEA, let's delve a little bit into Plato's Theory of Forms. I'm gonna assume that you aren't familiar with the concept. Otherwise, feel free to skip this part. It's a philosophical theory/concept that states that the physical world is not the "real" world. Instead, there's an alternate, ultimate reality that exists beyond our physical realm: the spiritual realm. The physical world is the material stuff we see & interact with everyday. This realm is always changing & is imperfect. *Perfection cannot exist in this realm.* The spiritual realm, on the other hand, is the perfect, "ideal" version of the imperfect physical realm which is only a shadow or an image of the true reality of the spiritual realm. Plato called this spiritual realm the *Realm of IDEAS* (a.k.a "Forms" or "Ideals"). So what exactly are these IDEAS/forms? They are the non-physical essence of all things. They are abstract, perfect, & unchanging concepts or ideals that exist in this perfect spiritual Realm of IDEAS. These concepts can be anything: Redness, Roundness, Beauty, Goodness, Justice, etc. So how about a specific individual object like a red dress, a round ball, a beautiful man, or a good person? They are simply just different examples of the IDEAS/forms & reside imperfectly in the physical realm. Think of a circle, for example. You draw one. I draw one. If we compare, there will be a number of differences & imperfections. They may have different sizes, shapes, colors, etc. So the 2 imperfect circles reside in our physical realm. However, even with such imperfections, there's something that unites them together that makes us agree that what we drew were both circles. This "it" factor is the IDEA of Circle which resides in the spiritual realm. With that being said, Taemin's IDEA is basically about his new "ego" chasing after his IDEA to become his perfect, "ideal" self & break free from the shackles of his former "ego." As the lyrics go: *A small reflection made by reason, Growing on the instinct, A dream blooming deep inside,* So, something as "small" as just "reasoning" with himself & "reflecting" about a certain matter made him realize that he's flawed. If we are to draw a connection to act 1, this "certain matter" could be referring to the struggle between his 2 personas. Throughout the Criminal MV, Taemin had been handcuffed, & the IDEA MV starts off with the 2 "criminal & victim" sides of himself in an interrogation room. Another small detail is that his ending T-pose in the Criminal choreo is also the starting pose of the IDEA choreo. The all-white room is heaven according to Taemin & the MV director. In the beginning, he went there despite still being alive due to the false euphoria he was experiencing in the stockholm syndrome relationship. That's why all the heavenly beings, portrayed by the face paintings/luxarious fashion, were looking at him strangely as he was undead. Hence, the realization that he's living a lie & is imperfect sparked his new "ego's" thirst for perfection which "grew on instinct" & became a "dream." *The shadow is holding the night & getting darker, Inside my heart, Under, under, under (2x) Beautiful silhouettes, Sweet voices, You make me crazy, You are my messiah, You are my me- (killing me) (Killing me softly)* Within his mind, Taemin has an IDEA of "Taemin" or an image of what it means to be the perfect "Taemin." This is the silver terminator blob that appears before him. His former "ego" - "the shadow" - is getting stronger & trying to crush this new "ego" that's bubbling under the surface ("holding the night & getting darker"). But deep "under" within himself, his new "ego" sees the images/glimpses of his perfect self: "beautiful silhouettes, sweet voices." He sees this concept of "Taemin" as his savior ("messiah") & believes that he can willingly achieve this perfection & become strong enough to escape the former "ego's" clutches. However, he's unable to reach it despite continuing to chase after it, making him go "crazy." It "kills him softly." So, is it really his "messiah?" The irony is that deep down, he questions it too but refuses to acknowledge it. *I can't even see or grab, Before I know it, I redefine myself, Everything in me is doubled, Making me take the hottest breath,* He can't "see or grab" this abstract concept of the perfect "Taemin," but unconsciously, he begins to "redefine" himself/his flaws by slowly developing his new "ego" to get closer to perfection. So now, there's the former "criminal" persona & the glimpses of the new, evolved "victim" persona within himself ("everything is doubled"). This struggle between the 2 "egos" makes him excited/agitated - "take the hottest breath." *Under, under, under, Beautiful silhouettes, Sweet voices, You make me crazy, You are my messiah, You are my me- (killing me) My IDEA (you are) (2x) You are, you are, you are My IDEA (2x) The dangerous dream that swallowed me, Is proven by you, This thrill deep inside my heart, You are my messiah (killing me softly)* Finally in the 2nd chorus, Taemin addresses the "you" throughout the song as his IDEA or the perfect "Taemin." The forest scene before/during the chorus is his new "ego" that's trapped by the former "ego" - depicted by the hell 🔥 scene. His new persona believes that his thirst for perfection is "proven" or justified by the existence of this IDEA of "Taemin" within himself even though it's "killing him softly," as shown by the utter madness of this scene in the MV. *Beyond the limit of realization, Your shadow I finally found, At the moment when I've become to trust everything invisible, I throw myself into the ideal, When the blue light flowing on me, Faces you & me, All the colored emotions inside, Become the unlimited range, The brightest presence in my world, The absolute value, you* So, he has managed to grasp at something beyond his physical limit - the "shadow" of his IDEA - & immerses himself into this "ideal." In the MV, he's sitting on the staircase to heaven in this scene. This is the limbo in between heaven & hell where IDEA exists. The "blue light" in the lyrics represents a higher being that's beyond human understanding. This higher being enlightens Taemin ("faces you & me") , & all the struggles & confusions ("colored emotions") from his 2 "egos" come to an end. They merge & become one with his IDEA in the spiritual realm. The merging into his IDEA is shown in the black background, white outfit scene. Now he has "unlimited" potential/possibilities as he has become his one & only perfect self ("the brightest presence . . . the absolute value, you"). *My, my IDEA, You are, you are, you are, (Killing me) My IDEA (you are) (2x) You are, you are, you are My, my IDEA (2x) (My IDEA) (You are my messiah) The dangerous dream that swallowed me, Is proven by you, This thrill deep in my heart, You are my messiah (Killing me softly)* But after becoming one with his IDEA in the spiritual realm, his new "ego" realizes that he cannot achieve this perfection in the physical world which then again "kills him softly," & the struggle & chaos starts all over again with his 2 "egos" in the spiritual realm. This is portrayed in the platform scene with the intense choreo/lightning & the hell 🔥 scene in the final chorus. *(Killing me softly, killing me softly), On the night I cut you out from my heart, (Killing me softly, killing me softly), Finally I open the [new] eyes.* In the end, Taemin's new "ego" is able to accept the fact that he cannot achieve his "ideal" self & reaches a middle ground in between heaven & hell. He "cuts out" IDEA from his heart & emerges into an evolved "Taemin" that is more complete than his former "ego." Though he's still imperfect in a sense, he's happy with where he's right now & abandons his former "ego." This is the final scene in the MV where he's in the blue outfit, looking up - again, in the same T-pose with which he ended Criminal & started IDEA - taking a deep breath (though this is due to the intense dance choreo, it does add something exquisite to the storyline that Taemin has created for his comeback). Even though, the new "Taemin" has learned to not be so obsessed with perfection, he's still striving to reach that IDEA or at least get as close to perfection as he possibly can which is seen in this ending scene as he looks towards the sky. After all, as human beings we always strive to improve ourselves & aim to become the absolute best version of ourselves despite knowing that we are flawed. This is how we grow & mature. Hence, it's the concept of rebirth that Taemin mentioned is the backbone of act 2.
If you guys got to the end of this comment, I seriously commend you 😭. I didn't mean to make it this long, but every single detail adds something to the overall work that I just couldn't not talk about them 🤣. So, yeah, Criminal is basically about how the new, evolving, victim persona is willingly seduced by the former/current criminal persona of Taemin. Hence the, handcuff, suffocation, & lyrics like, "I'm on a leash called you . . . 😉"
Or rather it's actually 2 KIDS, Criminal, and IDEA. Advice is in the next album which you can sort of interpret as his development after breaking free from IDEA.
First of all, you guys have the order of the trilogy wrong. 2 KIDS from Never Gonna Dance Again Act 1 was the prologue. This doesn't have that much to do with Criminal & IDEA storyline. It just kinda sets the tone for the act 1 album. Criminal was from Act 1, and THEN, IDEA was from Never Gonna Dance Again Act 2. Advice is not a part of this trilogy. Advice is in the next mini album. However, we can sort of interpret the meaning of Advice as Taemin's current mindset after the IDEA storyline. I will explain Criminal & IDEA in more detail in my next comment above because they are a little more complex. Note that Criminal and IDEA both have a heaven & hell theme. Criminal setting is mostly in hell and IDEA is about how he gets out of there. While both of the songs have a much deeper meaning (he explained them quite extensively in behind the scenes/making, v lives, ig lives, etc.), the audience can, of course, interpret them as they like, especially Criminal which can be seen as him talking about a toxic love (he's not. It's about Stockholm syndrome relationship with his inner self).
Actually, every SM group (not excluding some of the sub-unit and solo stuff) MV and performances directing is always carrying a symbolism even in the most 'on-point' video that you've thought of like WayV. Ten disclosed that every SM Artists has a book theory of them that is in line with SM holistic theory that we called "SMCU short of SM Culture Universe" today. Sometimes you could watch their official theory video (there are NCT and aespa) and the fanmade one (all of SM Groups) to understand more about what they've tried to bring with their music and stuff. Thanks for reacting TAEMIN.
This was such a fun video! So cool that you liked it too! Could you react to SilkyBois - "BOMAYE", NAFLA - "WU", H1GHER MUSIC - "TEAM", JUSTHIS & Paloalto - "4 the Youth Freestyle", BeWhy -"CHALLAN", TigerJK - "LOVE & PEACE", or WayChed - "RIDERS" if you have the chance. These songs all have English Subtitles, and I hope you like them. Mostly hip hop. 😊
I think Jared ( who didn't like anything about the MV ) he's a con or he's acting like one . At least he doesn't fit with your statement " our mission has always been to produce engaging and imaginative films that inform, entertain and inspire" . Your reaction and comment should do that ( inform, entertain and inspire ) , but it's not his case .

Agree!! No artist deserve the "trash" comment! You may not like it but calling it trash wassl sooo disrespectful.
But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.”
And just so you know, Taemin is not the criminal in the song.
His choreographer for his song "Move" was also involved in "Criminal."
Now after more than 13 years Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles (he is only 28) and, yet, he often has the most seniority and experience.
And, not only does it have to be new to them, but it is expected to be something new in the industry overall. So, after more than a decade Taemin has pretty much done every style of song and dance out there, and yet, he still manages to one up himself and create something new that continues to be unbelievable every time.
I wish you guys could of reacted to the dance practice for criminal and idea they really would have blown you away. Thank you for reacting to taemin.
It makes me happy that Taemin's work is being consumed the way it's meant to be☝🏾🙏🏾
no bc criminal choreo is actually a good one!! I wish they could’ve seen the full dance choreography it’s on shinee youtube channel
King Taemin❤️
God Tier 🔥🔥
FINALLY YALL REACTED TO THE KING OF KPOP 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I miss taemin so much !!
TAEMIN = KING
Hearing anyone call a Taemin video “mid” made me cringe but it’s cool 🤷🏽♀️
Edit:
I think if the video seems subpar to others I wonder if it’s the result of SM completely sidelining his project to push out multiple SuperM releases and promotions at the same time.
Go back and watch his live performance, you'll see his artistry
Taemin ! One of my favorite performers 💜
OMG taemin btw kai, taemin, jimin, jhope my favo dancer and the best dancers in kpop 🔥 hihi
Agreed
I was literally waiting patiently for this reaction I'm blessed
You guys had so much time left of this reaction video to react to his dance practice right after his MV
Taemin is the very essence of Art. This Trilogy is really about his Duality as an artist and performer vs who he is in real life. The artist in him is like a criminal that takes him over
Thank you guys for your reaction and I hope you react to taemin move 💗
For me Criminal Taemin is like Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul
Taemin is not basic or should I say mainstream you can't really pin point his music genre, that's why we call it TPOP, yes it has some influences, sound and video wise but he made sure it is distinct TAEMIN style.
Thank you for this content, your work & effort are highly appreciated, makes missing Taemin bearable, less than a year till he comes back :(
Thanks and please reaction to Taemin - Movie
SMH not everyone can understand Taemin's artistry. I'm sorry he doesn't make mid commercial pop music for small minded people. He's a real artist that uses symbolism and imagery in his art and that's what makes him unique and a legend. Junior idols literally have Taemin as their number 1 role model as they should. THE ACE, THE IDOL OF IDOLS. KING OF KPOP
Taemin ❤❤❤❤❤

yall need to react to "MOVE " the sexiest taemin song 🤤❤🔥
Criminal per taemin was about Stockholm syndrome but with himself...then idea was like creating a new persona and the you have advice...it goes together if you watch in order
Taemin is Obama approved
TAEMIN ES INCREÍBLE , EL MEJOR ARTISTA DEL KPOP EN MI OPINIÓN, HE IS THE KING !!! NEXT MOVE !!!
Thank you for the reaction :) taemin is a legend🔥
Some recommendations I have for you: Monsta x “rush hour” and “you problem” which came out recently with their second full English album, the bsides are fire please react to them as well if you feel like it :)
With that being said, Taemin's IDEA is basically about his new "ego" chasing after his IDEA to become his perfect, "ideal" self & break free from the shackles of his former "ego." As the lyrics go:
*A small reflection made by reason,
Growing on the instinct,
A dream blooming deep inside,*
So, something as "small" as just "reasoning" with himself & "reflecting" about a certain matter made him realize that he's flawed. Hence, the realization that he's living a lie & is imperfect sparked his new "ego's" thirst for perfection which "grew on instinct" & became a "dream."
*The shadow is holding the night & getting darker,
Inside my heart,
Under, under, under (2x)
Beautiful silhouettes,
Sweet voices,
You make me crazy,
You are my messiah,
You are my me- (killing me)
(Killing me softly)*
Within his mind, Taemin has an IDEA of "Taemin" or an image of what it means to be the perfect "Taemin." This is the silver terminator blob that appears before him.
*I can't even see or grab,
Before I know it, I redefine myself,
Everything in me is doubled,
Making me take the hottest breath,*
He can't "see or grab" this abstract concept of the perfect "Taemin," but unconsciously, he begins to "redefine" himself/his flaws by slowly developing his new "ego" to get closer to perfection. So now, there's the former "criminal" persona & the glimpses of the new, evolved "victim" persona within himself ("everything is doubled"). This struggle between the 2 "egos" makes him excited/agitated - "take the hottest breath."
*Under, under, under,
Beautiful silhouettes,
Sweet voices,
You make me crazy,
You are my messiah,
You are my me- (killing me)
My IDEA (you are) (2x)
You are, you are, you are
My IDEA (2x)
The dangerous dream that swallowed me,
Is proven by you,
This thrill deep inside my heart,
You are my messiah (killing me softly)*
Finally in the 2nd chorus, Taemin addresses the "you" throughout the song as his IDEA or the perfect "Taemin." The forest scene before/during the chorus is his new "ego" that's trapped by the former "ego" - depicted by the hell 🔥 scene. His new persona believes that his thirst for perfection is "proven" or justified by the existence of this IDEA of "Taemin" within himself even though it's "killing him softly," as shown by the utter madness of this scene in the MV.
*Beyond the limit of realization,
Your shadow I finally found,
At the moment when I've become to trust everything invisible,
I throw myself into the ideal,
When the blue light flowing on me,
Faces you & me,
All the colored emotions inside,
Become the unlimited range,
The brightest presence in my world,
The absolute value, you*
So, he has managed to grasp at something beyond his physical limit - the "shadow" of his IDEA - & immerses himself into this "ideal." In the MV, he's sitting on the staircase to heaven in this scene.
*My, my IDEA,
You are, you are, you are,
(Killing me)
My IDEA (you are) (2x)
You are, you are, you are
My, my IDEA (2x)
(My IDEA)
(You are my messiah)
The dangerous dream that swallowed me,
Is proven by you,
This thrill deep in my heart,
You are my messiah
(Killing me softly)*
But after becoming one with his IDEA in the spiritual realm, his new "ego" realizes that he cannot achieve this perfection in the physical world which then again "kills him softly," & the struggle & chaos starts all over again with his 2 "egos" in the spiritual realm. This is portrayed in the platform scene with the intense choreo/lightning & the hell 🔥 scene in the final chorus.
*(Killing me softly, killing me softly),
On the night I cut you out from my heart,
(Killing me softly, killing me softly),
Finally I open the [new] eyes.*
In the end, Taemin's new "ego" is able to accept the fact that he cannot achieve his "ideal" self & reaches a middle ground in between heaven & hell.
Hence the, handcuff, suffocation, & lyrics like, "I'm on a leash called you . . . 😉"

Dance Practice this song PLEAAASE!!!!!!!
Just about everyone is talking about that "one guy" who said the video was subpar but for whatever reason they don't know Jerrick's name lol
2KIDS (Pre-release Intro) then CRIMINAL that leads into those other two songs IDEA and ADIVCE, so you reacting to them backwards. Lol
Or rather it's actually 2 KIDS, Criminal, and IDEA. Advice is in the next album which you can sort of interpret as his development after breaking free from IDEA.
@@jae8329 o.o omg I forgot about 2KIDS, my bad.

Please react to hyunjin’s AOTM dance for Motley crew, it’s so good!
