It's good to have The Rock back after 20 years in his actual character, and this storyline has been perfection from start to finish. Modern smarks getting worked in 2024 while I watch from the sidelines laughing my ass off has, it was worth the year.
Nah, it hasn’t been perfection. They pivoted, and they pivoted well. WWE is definitely working crowds more often, but this wasn’t one of those occasions. You only need to see the contract stipulations of Johnson signing on as a TKO member to see a lot of this relates to his real life ego. He claims to understand what’s best for the business, but doesn’t watch the product. The Rock vs Reigns *is* undeniably a huge money match that *should* happen. However, it’s time for Roman to lose the title, his run has run out of steam. When that happens, he needs to be putting someone over or the long title-reign is meaningless. I still stand by the fact that I don’t think Cody Rhodes was the best choice for that, but he’s better than a lot of the alternatives. It certainly can’t be a former world champion. You can have Reigns lose the title, and cling on to the idea that he’s the Head of the Table for the Bloodline at least, and that’s what creates the conflict with The Rock for their showdown, whenever that happens. There’s even a way to book it so that Reigns becomes a face after beating him. By and large though, the biggest misstep if they wanted The Rock to face Reigns at WrestleMania 40 is that they should have just had him win the Royal Rumble. They invalidated that match and event by having Cody step aside to potentially face a champion he’d already beaten 3-0 in a feud.
