Wow. As a very inflexible returning Seido blue belt, I have two goals: 1) get to green belt-so I can spar again (they changed the rules since I was 15, 27yrs ago and 2): be able to do an axe kick. I reckon about half of all karate students, if they're honest, chose karate for one of three reasons: Street Fighter 2, the Karate Kid or Cobra Kai. This was always the most impressive move of Ryu and Ken. I tip my hat to anyone who can actually pull this off. Attaining the flexibility required, seems tantamount to donning a scuba mask, and swimming to the moon.
Please, make a point that was an *outside* axe kick. I could only use inside axe kicks in kumite, and what I find about Andy Hug was his ability to drop inside AND outside ones, and get people right off guard. And this karateka, has a damn vicious outside axe. OSU.
Andy Hug was a kyokushin karateka with an amazing axe kick. I love watching his old fights.
