I agree with you, at4040 is a bit smoother and rode is a lil harsher, im surpised how close they are though.. Good vid kellz love the format you do rapper n singer etc
I love them both in their own way. Really hard to pick, I love the smoothness of the 4040 but love the details of the intimate parts that the nt1a gives you.
I rarely leave comments but man, great stuff all around. Not only a great review, but great music and delivery! Artists like you make me want to go out and create my own content. Thank you for your inspiration!
I personally think the AT4040 sounds a little too "muted" for me. The Rode is crisp and you can reduce some of that mid-range harshness if you can work an EQ a little. Still a tough choice especially when you do the vs with rapping.
Hey your friend rapping on the Rode nt1-a had a sample in his song Iann Dior used in his song called 'Pouring' I just noticed. I'm definitely picking up the nt1 btw nice vid
Gotta say, the conclusions given here are pretty much bang on. AT4040 slightly less detailed but a bit smoother and mellow, i agree it sits better in the mix -- I'd probably wanna choose the rode for more intimate recordings, like harps or accoustic fingerpicking style. I bought the at4040 awhile back and definitely dont regret it
@@21recordsmixI like the at4040 a lot, it's good enough that I ALMOST never look at other mics now that I have it. For me it's all I'll ever need and I'm happy I'll never really need to look at other mics (just watched this vid mainly to see how it stacked up)
In my opinion, they both sound ok and with a great pre-amp both would produce better frequencies ... that being said, the Rode give off a higher frequency... hey, did I mention that with a great pre-amp it would sound even better.
might just be a case of what audio interface you are using. he used an apollo twin in this video, very smooth sounding interface. if you use a focusrite 2i2 you get a much harsher sound
Yo Kelli, is it worth buying a full at2020 setup .. sennheiser hd58x , boom arm, pop filter , xlr cable & 2020 for like 270 or is worth the extra 200$ for the new 4040?
Hi kelli, i hope that you help me, i decided to buy the AT4040 but i have a focusrite scarlett solo 2gen do you think it will work still? i mean the sound is it going to be good still?
2:12 might buy this microphone the rode NT1 except i might by a xlr one instead cause this one actually has a low frequency response.. but at4040 sucks for low frequency
Depends on your budget. At4040 is cheaper but has excellent quality. Tlm 102 is alot expensive and has excellent quality as well and is slightly better than 4040... i d rather go with the 4040 because you can record a billboard record with the 4040 , so there shouldnt reallybe the need of a tlm 102 when ur first starting out
lol i found it right after i left this comment. i also have another question for you. i’m looking at 2 bundles with the bluebird sl, the differences are is that one comes with an audio interface and that one is coming with a presonus studio channel strip which is a preamp. I have no clue what i’m doing. should i get the bundle with the audio interface or w the preamp?
4040 is just a little bit smoother on the highs. I was wandering: i need a mic that can handle very loud and very quiet, intimate performances (lyrical singing but also whispered vocals) wich one would you get? Anyone have any experiences on this topic?
It depends of your voice if your voice is bright Rode Nt1 is definitely not for you you could experience siblings because rode is little bit more brighter than AT 4040. From my research AT 4040 is superior mic for the price in my opinion better than Rode but again you must to decide, AT 4040 was made in Japan and many said it is better made than Rode. In fact i believe it can compete with more expensive mics.
Nah rode sounded better all around im not even a rode fan im just trying to compare a at4040 so i can see if its better than the blue spark sl which the spark sl is the best for 200$ in my opinion
how come it sounds different on the rapping and singing part on the two mics? one sounds rawer and the other sounds more professional.. did you add some kind of effect?
Bipolar Sociopath If you already got the nt1a I’d rock with it bc the differences are very subtle especially once the vocals are mixed and that’s the case with most condenser mics around the 200-400$ range.
Bipolar Sociopath ah I thought you were talking about upgrading your mic but if you don’t have one I’d definately recommend the plain nt1 over the nt1a or the at4040 you can’t go wrong with either of them honestly
