On this episode, I have our very first guest from China; Derek Wong-he is the Director of Systematic Trading and Options at a private fund in Shanghai.
Initially though, Derek got his start in the agricultural pits at the CBOT, then following on from this, he’s worked at various quant shops in Chicago, South Korea, and now days, mainland China.
After discussing Derek’s backstory, we talk; emerging markets, cultural differences of Chinese investors, convergent and divergent strategies, diversification, and some slightly unconventional ways of thinking about how you trade.
Additionally, Derek also has some awesome insight for traders who are discretionary and what traders should focus once reaching profitability.

Another thing he didn't mention about China's stock market is that it is more of a casino rather than a market as the name suggests. This is partly because Chinese people in general like to gamble; just go to any big casinos in the world, you are guaranteed to see Chinese around. Also, not many people want to learn how to trade, they think inside information is more reliable. I back-tested 500+ shares and totally 10000 trades, you know what, I can easily beat the market 2-3 times. China - the paradise of technical trading. Oh shit, why am I sharing this with people? :-)

If anyone knows an interview where the trader gives their actual strategies I would love to listen.
Any well known strategy will have been exploited & stop working
Once in a while some old traders might slip & share something ideas that is obsolete & said in an obscured/cryptic way
It is up to you to find it & think for yourself- that is why Commercial trading programs rarely profitable - it might be at one time but not anymore
The value in examining those if you are a newbie is to learn the the thinking & approach as a starting point for your own unique method
That is why this Site is so valuable!
