    I'd argue popular music succeeds not because it is good, but because it has a big name/marketing behind it.

      I disagree, I think it needs both "good" music and marketing. The biggest labels are trying to make as much money as possible. Do you really think they would be spending their money marketing mediocre music? If you want good profit you need a good product. I guess it all depends on what you define as "good" music. Is music that appeal to a broad audience bad? I wouldn't say so. Is music that doesn't appeal to a big audience bad? I wouldn't say that either. Either way, if you want to appeal to a wider audience the findings in the video are definitely useful! :)

      @BritishBoy Рік тому +59

      @@Memphy Honestly this is very true. I've had multiple music producers tell me before that it really doesn't matter that much if you aren't popular yet because if your music is good enough then the popularity will follow. A record label won't pass up a hit song from someone just because they don't know who they are.

    Music is Art, if you could make the listener (most of them) thinks it was his story, or if they can feel the feelings your trying to deliver with your unique touch, that’s it!
    It doesn’t matter if it was english or any language or even only music.
    Good music will always be good music, even time can’t change that.

    I think there's a degree of subjectivity on what's "a hit", cuz there aren't many chunes I'd call hits that are "happy", most are sad, or aggressive, that's what makes them hits. Emotion.

    There you go, I think it still has space to add voices, a boy band or a girl band over it. And you have your next k-pop hit. Although for those standards, it's still too slow, I've been analyzing the k-pop successful songs, and they all have a stomping sound and are fast, choreography oriented and loud.
    Also this was a great choice to add 7th's a proven formula from 80s pop music. I actually learned a lot from this video investigation, thank you!

While back in the days of becoming a hit, people might not listen to anything alike :) Let's take Skott Joplin's Mapple Leaf, it is a mix of a regular western music played by the right hand and african syncopated bass played by the left hand on the piano.
