I disagree, I think it needs both "good" music and marketing. The biggest labels are trying to make as much money as possible. Do you really think they would be spending their money marketing mediocre music? If you want good profit you need a good product. I guess it all depends on what you define as "good" music. Is music that appeal to a broad audience bad? I wouldn't say so. Is music that doesn't appeal to a big audience bad? I wouldn't say that either. Either way, if you want to appeal to a wider audience the findings in the video are definitely useful! :)
@@Memphy Honestly this is very true. I've had multiple music producers tell me before that it really doesn't matter that much if you aren't popular yet because if your music is good enough then the popularity will follow. A record label won't pass up a hit song from someone just because they don't know who they are.
Music is Art, if you could make the listener (most of them) thinks it was his story, or if they can feel the feelings your trying to deliver with your unique touch, that’s it! It doesn’t matter if it was english or any language or even only music. Good music will always be good music, even time can’t change that.
This isn't about art or emotions. The video is about writing songs that make money. Dua Lipa and Maroon 5 aren't writing emotional songs but making tons of money.
@@laartwork what do you fell when you listen to those? The reason you'd listen, thats the emotions not sadness only, happiness is also an emotion, vibing is also an emotion, you won't go anywhere if you don't know this simple technique.
I think there's a degree of subjectivity on what's "a hit", cuz there aren't many chunes I'd call hits that are "happy", most are sad, or aggressive, that's what makes them hits. Emotion.
he means “perceived” happiness. How many Taylor swift songs are actually happy songs? I’m more into edm now and fishers “losing it” isn’t a happy song. But perceived happiness, imo.
@@laartworkMaroon 5 still makes music? They had one hit 20+ years ago and all hits since, sound like that one. I liked “she will be loved” many years ago, but any hit I hear from them the past 10-15 years, sounds like that. I haven’t done research so I could be wrong. Probably more about “the 4 cords.”
Been doing production for a couple years and I am just starting to figure out that the most important thing in popular music is the vocals and lyrics. Everything else is there for support.
Have you watched the 4 cords video? Check it out. Some dudes talk about how songs with 4 cords dominated the 20th century charts. Something about those cords being subconsciously pleasant, even if song is sad. Video is probably 20 years old.
Hey what kind of music do you make? Are you interested in collaborating on future bass? If you understand how important vocals are, I’m interested in working with you.
Music genre means feeling and music genre can be literally anything it can make you feel sad, angry or anything really. And can still be a hit on the billboard as long as the song is a banger.
Lots of big edm artist like marshmello, the Chainsmokers and many more started as djs to build reputation then they eventually created their hit song that made them famous from their they kept it the same adter they knew what the listeners likes so they found their original style and stayed with it i believe creating a hit song isnbased on luck and making music from your heart
There you go, I think it still has space to add voices, a boy band or a girl band over it. And you have your next k-pop hit. Although for those standards, it's still too slow, I've been analyzing the k-pop successful songs, and they all have a stomping sound and are fast, choreography oriented and loud. Also this was a great choice to add 7th's a proven formula from 80s pop music. I actually learned a lot from this video investigation, thank you!
hey man! Love your vids! Can you please do a vid on how to make music like the chainsmokers 2022-2023 edition?Like how they made their album so far so good
Major doesnt always mean happy...theres many hit songs in Minor and in Greece all of our hit songs are in Minor....the context of the song and the use of each scale or mode defines happy or sad....you tried to make a point with the song ''happy'' which uses mixolydian
before you make any decisions based on this, ask yourself if you actually like these songs? imagine anything you did became a hit. is this the kind of stuff you would make?
2:25 How did they model familiarity of the 30 year old composition, I wonder... Like, today every hit song is already familiar to everyone, because it is a hit! While back in the days of becoming a hit, people might not listen to anything alike :) Let's take Skott Joplin's Mapple Leaf, it is a mix of a regular western music played by the right hand and african syncopated bass played by the left hand on the piano. Noone before ever produce something related.
@@Ropsu1Yeah, my theory is that the Slap House genre is probably dead this year, so there's a truckload of Phonk tracks released on Spinnin' Recs, NCS or independent release to attract more tiktokers and become hit tracks like other slap house tracks in the past two/three years.
That is indeed a very pop song you just produced. However, I noticed that you made in style of 2016/2017 electro pop. Would you be able to make one that sounds more modern? One that actually sounds like a hit song from the early 2020s.
this is a good video, but don't limit the dynamic range of your melody. Thats what makes it stand out, also a hit must have a reason behind writing a song. very rarely artist sit down and say "im gonna write a hit" they usually have motives
HIT SONG FORMULA : 1. Make a bad cringe song with shitty lyrics and Market/promote that song as if that's the coolest song ever, made by coolest artist (which is dumbest one usually) and make it viral on tiktok with shittya trends. 2. (1) Successful songs are happier
(3) Successful songs are less sad
Hmm, yes. This floor is made of floor.
Lmao
Hmm, okay. This floor is not a ceiling.
this made me laugh outloud way harder than it should have.
Hmm, yes. This water is wet
Less sad doesn’t mean happier. Mid is less sad but not happy 😃
I'd argue popular music succeeds not because it is good, but because it has a big name/marketing behind it.
Agreed

A hit song comes from a real place. Something that is relatable, well mixed and mastered and promoted well. A touch of magic and perfect timing. Boom
