This video from Sean also proves another point: The track already sounds pretty good without any EQ-move. That reveals the importance of the arrangement. If it were bad, the EQing would've been way more difficult. Chosing carefully the sounds and seeing that they complement each other is the key to a great mix afterwards. If you really have to EQ for hours in order to make your vocals cut through the chorus, you should rethink your arrangement.
Great tutorial! We have been EQ'ing each instrument on all our beats and it really helps to improve the sound but sometimes it can throw things off if we only listen in the studio, we try to listen on lots of different speakers (good, bad, headphones, car) then readjust.
Notice how the production already sounded somewhat mixed before Sean started applying eq. Some of you may ask how is this possible, well. Mixing starts with the sound choices/instruments. Before you consider mixing a track you have to pick sounds that work well with each other, you don"t want 3 sounds that all share the same frequency placement all playing at the same time. Secondly before you consider adding inserts and eqs to your track try doing a Fader Only Mix, you would be surprised that alot of mix issues are caused by elements which are too loud in relation to other elements. The way you can check for this is by having a spectrum analyser at the end of your output chain. All the frequencies should be more or less at the same height with perhaps the kick and bass 2 db louder if your making EDM/Rap music. One last thing, always check your gain levels after applying any eq or effects and be sure to gain match the difference afterwards, this will give you a true representation whether the mixing choice you are doing is adding value. If you dont gain match your are essentially fooling your ears as alot of eq boosts will add more volume to the track so be sure to gain match afterwards.
bro ,, you dont know how much you just helped me out!! my only other question is , my room isnt that treated "i have two comforters behind the wall where my computer desk is , in this case should i mix with headphones and then when i think its good , listen to it through speakers? i have senhheiser hd pro280 headphones and sony mdr 7506.
@@2ndperspective418 Mixing with headphones can work for some people however bear in mind when you mix on headphones you won't get a good representation of the stereo field so perhaps when your checking for that play the audio from your speakers and make sure you and the speaker's form an equilateral triangle (This is known as the sweet spot) The is a good software by sonorworks called reference 4 which may help you with your room issues. Hope that helps?
I found you bc of a comment on another video, crazy how you never came up on my recommended as ive been learning to produce sice 2019. Ive learned so much from you in the two days ive been watching your videos
Woow Great vidéo saves you a lot of time mixing instruments, i remember it used to take me hours just to EQ instruments, I love Sean’s helped me a lot to improve, So today I have templates and finish a song in less hour, guys also don’t forget less is more, in mixing when you involve so many stuffs takes your time and kill your mix, be careful, always use your ears, don’t fix what is already good. Thanks Sean i wish youtube could allow as to give 1000 like at once, than your videos would have my likes 🍾
Thank you brother Sean. I use EQ a lot and this really was a good tutorial for me. Maybe soon I should upload some beats, you give us confidence 🙏😊 Stay blassed.
you know what's crazy, i was just thinking bout how your mixing sound a lot different from your earlier stuff! you've gotten better are you going to show us the new techniques
Good video. I often find myself making massive abnormal EQ moves as almost a sound design tool. (i.e., Exaggerating an 808's low/mid frequencies adds texture and distortion, that generally wouldn't be heard with a 3-5db boost) Do you find yourself using the EQ for improvised sound design?
absolutely. if the production is done right, the boosts and cuts in the mixing stage for me aren't too extreme... in the production stage, the EQ is much more drastic at times!
It’s a spike because he hears where the vocal is gonna go. If it was pure instrumental, would have okay to be honest. But because a vocal is going to go there, for the intents of the song, there was a “spike “
Hello friend, a question, do you think the spectrometer you are using for eq is more reliable than the clarity m stereo spectrometer? Because I use the spectrometer of cubase pro 10.5, and I have the Clarity m stereo, and one tells me one thing, and the other another, I don't know which one to trust for eq, what do you recommend?
thanks Andre! I will likely release this one as an instrumental...and both on the sounds! I love creating my own and have for a long time... there's also so much inspiring content from other sound designers these days, so that's fun too :)
Yo Sean are you mixing into the L3 now instead of the Ozone Maximizer like before? Also can you make a video setting up levels and gain staging bro. My LUFS always match my reference tracks but the sound is never as loud as the references
Sean please I need some clarity with this. Why is my overall Gain boosting while I'm cutting frequencies ? And how do i remedy that ? or I'm doing something wrong?
I love how you actually ignored all the rules you usually teach like roll off the low end everywhere its not needed or not EQ in solo but still get a crystal clear mix
Just a tip: Maaaaan i would throw that grand piano OUT so quickly.. 😅 I like the beat but that piano in there..i don't know..I would consider trying a different piano.. A bigger and fatter one.. That's just my friendly advice..

Balance it's everything in the mix, the most important step
spot on
yes
Maybe they process all the sounds first before they get to this point.
Sean "Legendary" Divine 🔥🔥🔥
Indeed.
Sean Divine...the best music production in UA-cam..clear concise and exceptional.....
Thank you!
Super helpful to see someone actually going through this process! Thanks a lot!
glad it helped :)

@@RiversideProductionz thank you!
This is a wonderful tutorial which explains the main reason for EQing. + the sentence: "it is ok not to eq a channel, if it doesn't need."
this song is beautiful
🙏
thank you Sean
Hey there this is awesome one more time with a masterclass, thank you so much.

😁🙏
Those visualizers are dope and just what i need..
🙌
I love your minimalist approach to EQing I'll try to adopt that, specially to mix faster lol
proper balancing and sound selection makes the process much smoother 🙌
Good one.
another amazing video Sean!!!
Great job SD💯🔥
🙏
Enjoyed watching how you deal with eq'ing a track Sean
awesome beat and awesome tutorial
🙏
Nice composition and tutorial
thanks!
Well done Sean!!

glad to hear it Salar, do it :)
Impressive D: It helped me a lot, thank you!
TX brother Sean I always remember you when I think of success 😎👌😘
😊 🙌
Nice, I guess this way everything can be compressed a little better without having too many spikes but still having some dynamics
Excellent as always ✅🔥💯
Your Production is sweet!!
appreciate that steel!
Hi Sean Pls make a video about LPx 10.5. Thanks
awesome, would be great to see more videos like that :)
Nice. This remind me of that song How Can I Ease The Pain - Lisa Fischer
thank you
This beat is fire
thanks Yamy!
Super helpful thanks legend
Awesome stuff!
thanks man🙏
No problem 👍
Dope & useful vid! I’m interested to see/hear your thoughts on the new Logic update!
Wrapping up sessions before taking the leap... looking forward to checking it out 🙌
you know what's crazy, i was just thinking bout how your mixing sound a lot different from your earlier stuff! you've gotten better are you going to show us the new techniques
thanks! more on the way :)
How I just cried hearing u say "yes this beast of a sound "😂
😁
Nice beat
🙏
what do you use for kicks? samples, or which plugin do you use to create it? thanks. your kick and bass always perfect
Really appreciate the free content you're posting, some gems in these videos
do you think u can do a video abt sound selection ?:)
Good video. I often find myself making massive abnormal EQ moves as almost a sound design tool.

Great video! Though, I was curious about showing the final master EQ shape and any tweaks that you would do there?
Same
Are you mixing into the Fusion my guy? I just picked it and the Warm Audio Buss Comp up to mix into!
Not in this session, using it extensively for mastering though! 🙌
Sean Divine oh ok bet
Can you do a rundown of the logic 10.5 update?
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Sean “there’s a spike at 1k and I can hear it” Me “wtf you talking about? This sounds great” 😂😂😂
Caleb Fon omg this was me just now. It made me feel so worthless 😂
It’s a spike because he hears where the vocal is gonna go. If it was pure instrumental, would have okay to be honest. But because a vocal is going to go there, for the intents of the song, there was a “spike “
Yeah right lol his stuff be sounding great. His rough work is my dope mix .
One more video with stock compressor same as eq pls...

Because I use the spectrometer of cubase pro 10.5, and I have the Clarity m stereo, and one tells me one thing, and the other another, I don't know which one to trust for eq, what do you recommend?
when initially starting to mix the beat would you suggest using headphones?
Awesome sean. Are u gonna lay something down on this one? Also, do u program your own sounds or get them from online?
thanks Andre! I will likely release this one as an instrumental...and both on the sounds! I love creating my own and have for a long time... there's also so much inspiring content from other sound designers these days, so that's fun too :)
Sean Divine got it! Thanks for your time, dedication and replying. Always wishing you the best ! #Inspiration
Sean Divine where’s the best place to get sounds or is it more about finding the right ones vs the right sites
Yo Sean are you mixing into the L3 now instead of the Ozone Maximizer like before? Also can you make a video setting up levels and gain staging bro. My LUFS always match my reference tracks but the sound is never as loud as the references
Hi, I'm watching you from turkey, please add English subtitles to your videos. Let's watch it more enjoyable with the automatic dial feature
Sean please I need some clarity with this. Why is my overall Gain boosting while I'm cutting frequencies ? And how do i remedy that ? or I'm doing something wrong?
Can Do a Mix With Trap Drums ..Kicks Snares & 808s like real trap Future x Young Thug Vibes.
I'll see what I can do!
Sean Divine thanks your the best SD 💪🏽💯
Where's this song? I wanna listen to the whole thing from start to finish and possibly purchase it.
In the works :) 🙏
Yo Sean....... Has there been any word on a studio rack update for waves 11?
the raw session sounds better then my mix
New logic is released
yep :) looking forward to checking it out!
Can you Show how to eq a Mastered Beat to make room for vocals and to clean up the Beat
ua-cam.com/video/nLnsPPde_Eg/v-deo.html
Holy Shit you actually awnser what a G ❤️
My melodies/chords sound thing unlike the professional ones i here...any advice..do i multiply the tracks
Do you have any video of mixing soul sample based beats to be ready for vocals and mastering
ua-cam.com/video/eZcRbUicyXo/v-deo.html
Yo Sean have you checked out logic’s new 10.5 update already?
not yet :) in the middle of sessions, looking forward to checking it out soon!
19:20 I dont use serum but isnt there an oversampling feature , which would lower the amount of noise the saturation adds?
Pleeeeeeaase put “instrumental days” back up on Apple Music!!!!
thanx a lot brother
nobody doing like to you
my pleasure 🙏
just out of curiosity why did you have the kick and snare on stereo tracks?
kicks and snares can still have stereo info :)
kenny beats would have pressed the future dancin button 15 minutes ago
Lmfao
I know how to use compressor but i have confusion that on which element i can use compressor
The song was already fine without eq just balance and finish
no matter how many plugins, how many courses, how many youtube tutorials I watch, I could never get my mix to sound clean and not muddy....
stay with it, it will happen... it takes time :)
I love how you actually ignored all the rules you usually teach like roll off the low end everywhere its not needed or not EQ in solo but still get a crystal clear mix
