This safe allows you to store one, count 'em, ONE handgun, and one mag. For less money, you can purchase a Vaultek safe that can store several guns, mags, money, passport... you just won't have the 007 feature of it popping out. I don't really see the advantage of this series of Vaultek safes, but everyone loves having options!
@@eastbayst9458 The Slider safe starts at $229 on Vaulteks site. You can purchase the VE20, without the fingerprint reader and bluetooth, for $169. The VE20 with bluetooth, but no fingerprint reader, is $190. Alot of people with the Vaultek safe with fingerprint readers say that they only work some of the time, and they wouldn't rely on them anyways. I understand everyone's needs are different. I just found the slider to be very restrictive, as far as how much it'll hold.
@@BuckFush08 Buck I completely agree the Vaultek can be slow in recognizing programed fingerprints (I'm talking seconds of delays to open the safe). However, the Vaultek nano key is game changer - it opens the slider quickly without any delay (I'm sure that's why Vaultek developed it). The safe is solid and if I have to use the nano key to instantly access my firearm I'm fine with that.
@@JeffinTD I like it a lot, although I don’t see much of a benefit going for the wifi version over bluetooth. The slider series is certainly a nice option to have.
@@theexpatgunner Thanks for the reply. Though I’ve got security cameras I could see the WiFi version as handy to let you know if someone (house sitter or whoever) attempts to open it. I’ve seen one or two negative comments on the fingerprint scanner, but everyone seems happy with the newer version.
Great video thanks. You forgot to put gun in and show if it have to way to position for the gun or pistol facing in or out if you know what I mean. Need to get one. Never mine just saw another video.
Is there a way to remove the sliding drawer? I would make it much easier to replace the battery & to access the program button and such. It looks like there are a couple of locknuts that hold in the bottom bracket / roller... will removing those allow the drawer to be removed?
I just purchased one for my M&P Shield 2.0 and Springfield Hellcat and they are too small for this safe. You can insert a piece of foam inside where the barrel would sit but then the handgun trigger guard will be outside of the foam making the handgun wabble. I'm returning it. Great video though! thanks.
I can’t say for sure if this is a solution: but the Wifi and Bluetooth models have different dimensions (Bigger) inside than the Essential model. I use a Ruger Max 9 with this safe and I also had to place a few layers of foam rubber to elevate the Max 9 to a retrievable level. This makes retrieval perfect for my Max 9. I don't need an additional magazine since it's store fully loaded and one in the chamber...
I had a bit of the same problem and found that the backplate has to be mounted perfectly flat to whatever you're mounting it to. I had to loosen a couple of the mounting screws to achieve this. Once there was no distortion in the backplate it mounted easily. Give it a try...
Will the case hold a Glock with a red dot and light mounted to the handgun? How’s the fingerprint scanner on this safe? Is it worth paying the extra hundred something dollars for this or just get the standard version with just the key pad and key?
I have a different model Vaultek, but I would imagine it's the same. Along with using the furnished key, if your battery should die, you can easily plug in a micro USB, which will give your safe enough battery charge to open it. My safe does not forget the combo, even if the battery dies. Then simply leave the safe plugged in for 2.5 hours and recharge the battery! Please remember, I don't have this safe, I have a different model, but I would be surprised if Vaultek made this safe less convenient then their earlier models.
They recommend leaving it plugged in all the time, and the wi-fi model goes in to power save mode by default when on battery- so the app only reports status last time the safe was “awake”.
Is the foam removable so you can change the orientation of the firearm? Ideally I’d like it flipped the opposite direction. I emailed their customer service and they said yes if you are careful with it. Just wondering if you had a hands on perspective on this.
Not sure how the new biometric button makes sense unless you purchased a model without biometrics already. Why push a biometric panic button when the safe already has the same thing?
If you are building something that might be required to open in order to save a life you do not cut corners to save less than a dollar on a spring. With a spring to weak to open the safe when empty, if it is not oriented down, I would give it a 3 star review at most. In other words it will not open reliably when empty if level, let alone oriented up as you would want in a car if mounted by the side of the center console. Just imagine how bad it will be with a couple pounds of pistol and ammo in it. Vaultek should either increase the spring tension or go to a motorized opening system, both will increase the costs but as is, it is not a product I would invest in.
I've owned the Vaultek Slider now for several months, maybe even close to a year. I would highly recommend the nano key (shown at about 10min into this video). The reason being is if you notice the author of this video opening the safe with his fingerprint it didn't immediately take it. In my experience it sometimes takes several tries to get a registered fingerprint to open my safe. Not ideal in an emergency/and or when I'm stressed. Imagine hearing someone breaking in to your home/bedroom window at night and in a effort to get to your firearm it takes a few extra seconds to get your safe to open. Definitely not ideal. I have a laptop that uses biometrics to turn it on and it works perfectly first try and every time. I sure wish Vaultek could provide the same with this safe. However, with a press of the nano key that safe opens immediately every time. The nano key is mounted in a plastic mount that allows the actual 'key' to be easily removed and reinserted. So, what I do is anytime I'm leaving the house I simply put the nano key in my pocket or hide it somewhere secure and away from the safe. I carry concealed (legally) so generally when I leave the house my handgun is with me so the nano key remains in its mount. But, if I do have to leave without it, I will take the nano key with me. It's extremely small and lightweight. In fact the nano key is why I ordered a second Vaultek Slider for our RV. I'll apply the same principle, if I'm leaving without my firearm the nano key will come with me. If you're a handgun owner you already know that there are precautions and care taken when you leave your home, removing a nano key is no different from insuring your gun is stored securely.
Pretty disappointed. The SR20i is much too big especially to accommodate the slide to mount in either driver side or passenger side floor wells against the console for quick access
Also to be fair, these bedside type safes are not as secure as a full size fire rated safe. They mainly offer child protection and some level of security from the smash and grab type common burglar.
The note about the mounting is vital. Thanks!

I’d see this for being valuable for people who have full sized gun safes, so the bedside safe need only hold one gun.
