The second reaction is the owl trying to hide from a perceived threat, and it tries to use it's camouflage to look like a branch (despite there not being one behind it, it has a brain the size of a nut, give it a break). These reactions aren't unique to this kind of owl, as many smaller owls will try to hide, and many larger ones will toe-dust, depending on whether they think they can intimidate the threatening animal. Do some research, these are amazing animals that demand a high degree of respect for nature!
Besides the common barn owl, the two owls featured in this clip have counterparts in North America, the great horned owl, and of course, the little screech owl.
