    Excellent information and explanation Sir🙏. I think these topics should be taught to everyone and not only to philosophy or arts scholars. I am a Science graduate and I feel so illiterate when I study these kind of ideas. The world could be a better place without science but certainly not without philosophy.

    Thank you vey much Dr. Verma Saheb! I am a teacher of hospitality and I have my own channel like you. Of course, nowhere close to your's in popularity!
    I had to do BA for my next promotion (I am Diploma in HM, 1994) and I took Philosophy as an optional. I started in 2019 BA English Hons. at Directorate of Distance Education, Patna University. For my second year, I bought a book on Western Philosophy by Prof Y. Masih. It was simple to understand till I reached the chapter on Immanuel kant.
    In fact I stopped reading when it came to the topic of Categorical Imperatives.
    Now, thanks to your really lucid lecture in Hindi, I could get a substantial grasp of the tenets of Kant's philosophy. Beautiful work, Doctor Saheb! Keep it up.

    Very nice exposition of Kant 's philosophy in brief . Kant has been my favourite thinker. '!Do thy duty though Heaven falls'.Hime asked him once that when he tries to find God within he sees only sensations n perceptions n nothing else.Kant replied..well, You try to find Him where He is not...He is beyond phenomena beyond sensations......Kant conceives a word ' Noumena' as U mentioned Thank you for this exposition.Keep it up for the seekers.

    After reading Bhagwat Geeta and philosophy of Advaita Vedanta,I feel like this so called Western philosophy is not actually Western.It is actually indic philosophy or we can say indic philosophy is like a superset and Western philosophies are just subsets of that superset.Basically Kant was talking about concept of Nishkam karm and Dharma(duty)
    given in Bhagwat Geeta.This is my understanding.

    Sir I am in my mid 20s and haven't studied Kant or in fact any philosophy...but naturally I have exactly same philosophy of life and have been following this since my childhood. Sometimes I question myself that what could be the source of this, but never found the answer. But I always have a doubt that how would we decide that our glass of mind is transparent? How can we decide ourselves that whatever we are thinking about ourselves is right? Can't it just be my perspective?

    • @prometheus007
      @prometheus007 2 роки тому +2

      That's exactly what Kant is saying according to him anything to be "moral" is has to pass the test of duty of categorical imperatives - Universality and Humanity principles. For eg I think being truthful is moral, it's moral not because it is good for me, it is universal good with no scope of subjectivity.

    • @kshitijpandey7487
      @kshitijpandey7487 2 роки тому

      @@prometheus007 But even in this case, how do you know that being truthful is universally good? There could be some instances where truth have been hidden and it was better at that time. Even in Mahabharat, you can see the examples of this. So overall it is you only who is deciding the rules and judging yourself. Though I can feel what Kant is trying to say and even I follow those things but there is always a chance that this is not absolute and just a relative thing.

    • @prometheus007
      @prometheus007 2 роки тому

      @@kshitijpandey7487 It's the beauty of philosophy it's not absolute, actually it's not meant to be. When a individual gains consciousness, he starts asking questions, why am I here? What is my purpose of life? What should I do with my life? Is there God? What is moral? He tries very hard to think but he can't conclude anything absolute. Kant, Descartes, Kirkegard, Sarte all went through this phase, constant struggle to understand once own existence and find meaning. You should read Nietzsche. When he says life has no meaning, no purpose it makes real sense. Philosophy is not like mathematics, it's open ended and eternal. Always trust your conscience, it says it's right it's right.

      Kshitij, thanks for your very honest and genuine question and feelings. I absolutely loved your conversation with Rahul Roy, who seems to be very well read and has very clear thoughts on this and one can hardly improve upon that. So, kudos to Rahul.
      Indian philosophy talks of universal consciousness that gives us a unique approach that transcends physical boundaries and connects to past-present-future because the supreme consciousness i.e. the Divine, is timeless, limitless and all encompassing. That is expressed very beautifully in this hymn -
      ॐ पूर्णमद: पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात् , पूर्ण मुदच्यते,
      पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय, पूर्ण मेवा वशिष्यते।
      ॐ शांति: शांति: शांतिः - ईश उपनिषद
      So, there is a possibility of thinking alike with past masters as in your case.
      As Rahul has written, the only Absolute is the Divine Master; rest all is relative. So, we can only try to reach the divine source to understand the correctness or rationality of our approach and judgement. That was what Plato was trying to do through his Philosopher King or Hegel through the World Spirit. Your rational decision bereft of self-interest and in tune with the good of the society and humanity is the only option left to you; rest you have to forget. If it is your perspective, you have nothing to be ashamed of that. That is the allowance Kant is willing to give to every individual.
      Thanks for raising this wonderful issue. Blessings

    Sir Namaste.... absolutely fantastic video and I’m really looking forward to listen to you more deeply... sir I have a request... can you please make a video on Banality of evil propounded by Arendt? Since a very long time I’m trying to understand the core message of this theory but can’t be able to get a proper discourse from anyone...

    • @DrAKVerma
      @DrAKVerma  4 роки тому +5

      Annie, grateful for your kind words. Thanks for your suggestion. Will take it up. But the core message of Arendt's thesis is ' doing evil without evil intentions'. Some people are so dedicated to their brief that they don't peep into its ethical/moral aspect; they just perform. In so doing, they may commit many evil things inadvertently. For now, this should help. Best wishes

    सर नमस्कार, मैं पेशे से एक इंजीनियर हूं , परंतु दर्शनशास्त्र में मेरा झुकाव है l मेरा यह मानना है कि दर्शनशास्त्र के सिद्धांतों से हम इंसानी समझ को अच्छे से जान सकते हैं l कुल मिलाकर यह हमें एक बेहतर इंसान और बेहतर प्रबंधक बनाने में मदद करता है l
    आप जैसे ज्ञानी लोगों को सुनना बहुत ही आत्मिक सुख देने वाला अनुभव होता है l

    Sir aap bhut axha explin krte ho bt
    सर यही तो श्यादवाद का सिद्धान्त है कि हम किसी चीज को अलग अलग ठग से देखते है
    वही गीता मे भी
    कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।
    मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भुर्मा ते संगोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥
    तो हमको दर्शन मे क्यो ये भी नही पठाया जाता

    Sir, epistemology me kant ka kya yogdan raha hai. Kya metaphysics aur epistemology ek hain?

    • @DrAKVerma
      @DrAKVerma  Рік тому +1

      Epistemology tells how humans think and understand; there are two ways - rationalism and empiricism - one 'a priori' another 'a posteriori', one based on understanding and the other on sense experience. Kant rejects both and unifies them to gain true knowledge. However, Metaphysics involves knowledge of the Reality which transcends time and space. So, Kant is trying to get to reality which is beyond both; beyond this physical world. Hence, Metaphysics also includes epistemology. Thanks for this question.

    Definitely a good lecture and no doubt you're a brilliant professor.
    Suggesion - As I am from Engineering Background, and i not a student a philosophy for me lecture was at quite fast pace, too much information to process, a student from humanities background can definitely process that information but someone who dont have a background of humanities it becomes challenging (and might lose interest), please slow down a bit.
