I love how often Amity calls Luz her girlfriend. Like, Dana is rubbing it in the face of Disney executives that she made this relationship happen and I love it.
Happened the same in the first season. In the episode following the Grom we had gay panicking Amity in generous quantities. This time we have Amity repeatedly confirming that she and Luz are dating after they had started dating in the last episode. It's a way the writers have to reenforce the nature of their relationship.
@@arturferrao7353 well it’s that, but it’s actually really just Amity’s need to prove herself. She needs to prove she deserves to be Luz’s girlfriend. That’s a flaw of her character, (and reminds me of another show that I’ve become obsessed that’s gets even more similar to the TOH every time I think about it). In a way, the fact that ppl are saying this as if they’re rubbing it in Disney’s faces makes me sad since Amity shouldn’t need to prove herself, and yet here we are interpreting this as Dana and her crew’s need to “prove” herself in the faces of others.
I'm pretty sure she did that cause some homophobes tried to say they like each other like best friends to their kids so in the next apperance Dana was just obnoxious with it. Rick Riordan does a similar thing when people said to just skip the cupid chapter in House of Hades cause it's not important to the story. He made it impossible to read The Blood of Olympus or Trials of Apollo without acknowleging what happened in the cupid chapter.
I like to think that because the Blights are wealthy, they had the resources for their kids to carve their own palismen at home, hence why Amity wasn't present in that episode (also training as a purple goop assassin, apparently)

Part of Zeno’s audition for Hunter included the Eclipse Lake breakdown, and Dana’s said his performance on that breakdown was what cinched him the role. 😂
Quick note about the Grimwalker thing - one of the ingredients listed is "Bone of Ortet". "Ortet" is a botany term, referring to a plant that clippings are taken from in order to grow new plants. In other words, if a Grimwalker is a type of clone, the ortet is the person or creature the Grimwalker is cloned from, hence why they need a bit of material from the original's body. Of course, Hunter being a clone of Hooty raises a lot of questions about how their genetics work.
@@WeeLassReacts It's actually true. This is why Hunter goes 'Byeee' in the same way as Eda - back when Eda and Belos were partners and used to travel to the human realm together, he harvested some of her hair and used it to create Hunter.

Remember, after you watch episode 10 of season 2, you have to wait six months before you watch episode 11 so you can have the same experience as the rest of us. It won't have the same impact if you just keep going and all of a sudden see the time skip where Luz and Amity are 18 and are roommates in Witch College.

@@WeeLassReacts and then you'll need to wait 6 - 9 months before watching season 3. So you can appreciate the appearance of Azura Noceda-Blight. Yes, Luz demanded top billing.
There's one more emoji message in this episode, right near the beginning when Luz is sick. Reading it sideways, Luz is telling Amity "UR PRETTY", which is absolutely adorable :3
“What is this?” This what happens when Disney cancels your show halfway through you making it. Buckle in. the last half of this season is going to be wild.
Or just a character who is so happy to finally have someone special in her life that she is going to do everything in her power to keep Luz safe and happy. Her re-affirming it is a side effect of that. But yes the run time does play a role too.
The people said s1 was good, the people said s2a was good. And nobody's ready for s2b. I'm still shocked that they got away with all that in a show directed at 6 to 11 year olds that got cancelled for having an audience that ranged in age so much.
@@BluAru one unfortunate western thing is the disrespect and disbelief that ppl other than literal toddlers will watch animation Two shows I’ve fallen for recently got cancelled for not existing within typical western animation expectations, ignoring the fact that times have changed for some, and instead of capitalizing on the new change and advocating for more change, they just cancelled the boundary pushers. I’m glad we got series like The Owl House to prove people wrong and forced Disney to admit they were wrong. I hope this cultural change happens in other companies like Nick, so they could revive the show they had that’s similar to TOH. Which, unlike OH, has a future they could continue with (cuz it hasn’t “ended”)
Amity is a fantastically proud, protective, and possessive partner for her little sick nerd. And Hunter is suffering from severe pressures and stress, so much that it's a wonder he hasn't cracked yet... Or has he?
Yeah, it shows just how much Belos really messed with the minds of the people on the boiling isles, making them feel like they only had any kind of worth if they succeeded in doing something for someone. Of course Eda didn't care about that, she marches to tune of her own band.
@@oprime in a way tho, that is why Eda is so unempathetic at times. She can’t comprehend why ppl want to “prove” themselves. She’s surrounded by them lol. Luz, Hunter, Lilith, Amity, etc. but she also felt those feelings this episode cuz she’s so desperate to become powerful again.
@@ma.2089 I think one of the reasons that she wants to become powerful again is because of her motherly instincts to protect King and Luz(who I get the feeling she sees literally as a daughter.) She proved that when she was willing to use up all her magic just to save Luz. By understanding those feelings you spoke of M A, I think she get closer to understanding her own sister Lilith's motivations better as well.
Hunting Palisman established Hunter as a mirror of Luz - someone who has no natural magical ability, who has to find alternate and clever methods, is fascinated by wild magic, but has little to no control over their own future. Eclipse Lake establishes Hunter as a mirror of Amity - someone who has grown up with the pressures of a powerful family with great expectations for them, who want to make sure they only act in ways that please or benefit them, and as a result their ability to make personal connections has been stunted- but with the right hand of kindness extended, they have the chance to rise out of that cycle. It's a sign of really good writing when simply placing different combinations of characters together in an episode can draw so much out of them like this.
12:15 Us aromantics just show love in our own kind of way and I think it’s beautiful. I’m much quicker to tease or (playfully) insult someone than say that I love them, but the second they ask a favor or I can do something to brighten their day, I’m all over it. And Luz and Amity are the kind of couple that would move mountains for each other and I will never get enough of it

@@WeeLassReacts I mean it’s different for everyone, that’s just me. I’m not Scottish, but I’ve been told I have some Irish in me so maybe that also plays a part in it, based on what I know about the Irish that is, which is mostly stereotypes 😂
Someone's going to have to explain to me what "aromantic" means. I thought it meant (to quote Google) "a person who experiences little or no romantic attraction to anyone." But you both seem to be describing reactions that appear perfectly romantic to me, just expressed in a different way.
@@Brasswatchman And Google is entirely correct, however aromantic is also an umbrella term, meaning that there’s a whole spectrum of attraction types that fit underneath it. It’s not a one-size-fits-all definition, it’s more about just finding a label that you feel like you identify with the most. There’s too much to fit into a UA-cam comment, but if you look for different labels under the aro umbrella, I think it’s interesting to read about
I should add my pronouns to my "about section" I just realised I didnt think about it until now LOL but can confirm (publically) I go by she/her :D thanks for being considerate tho! And thank you for the compliment!!
10:30 you know, with the show being cut short so much, the creators had to do something to fit the most important things by the end of the third season, so many tropes and moments we could've had were cut off. So no, you didn't miss anything, It's just not there. And the show might feel rushed because of it sometimes, but the creators did the best they could to keep the show going. It had not been confirmed where Amity got her palisman from, but there are many theories saying she either inherit it from Odalia (which I find unlikely, because palisman is supposed to reflect its owner's character, and Amity and Odalia have very different personalities). Some say that Amity's parents didn't want her to have a second-hand "junk" palisman (Bosha's words) so they made her skip the adoption day and carve her own
That's certainly possible. It's also possible that her parents didn't want her to have a palisman at all (or rather Odalia didn't, Alador wouldn't be bothered), and she was still too embarrassed to see Luz, so she went to the Bat Queen on her own.
Tbh, I never really thought S2 was _rushed_ , only *fast-paced* . They dont show us every single thing like in S1, but they do leave enough clues so that we could figure it out ourselves without information having to be spoonfed to us. For me, it just made the world feel more lived-in, like the characters have a life beyond just what we see.
@@TheCanderemy Agreed, I think it was mainly due to the fact that in Season 2, they didn't really have any 'filler' episodes. There wasn't an episode that you could just casually skip without missing something important. in Season One, we had Hexes Hold'em, Body Swaps, Tibbles, etc., and other episodes that were largely to be standalone, even if they managed to squeeze a little plot in here and there. That kinda makes Season 3 Ep1 even more bittersweet for me. You can see individual scenes in S3E1 that could have-and probably WOULD have-been an entire episode (or even an entire arc) all to themselves, had we only gotten things as they should have been.
I think I've mentioned it before, but I love how the creators knew that they needed to get the Big Animation Guns out not only when it came to creating the big fight scenes, but ALSO as well as the big romantic scenes. You can instantly tell the animation has stepped up, and you know it's an important scene that means something to the storyline or the character.
I love the part when it's revealed that Luz carves her Palisman into a love heart powered by her and Amity's love. But I was so sad when it died after Luz and Amity broke up in Season 3. #riphearty
@@Amelia_-qy9nz yeah like srsly caleb just CAME out of nowhere and i think its to replace Amity when she died from a literal *heart attack* after their breakup 😭 (I was ugly crying at the end of s3 ep1)

"He looks like a kind person." And that's how he gets you. Also, pretty sure Dana took one look at Hunter and thought "Imma give this kid so much trauma. >: ]"
Did you realize? The pink fire that Amity uses this episode is the spell that she learned in s1 ep 12, the same episode where Luz learned her second spell. BTW, I really like Belos design. Like you said, he seems kind. No wonder Hunter actually believes he's a good person.
I can completely relate to being bad at "love language." I didn't find out that I was autistic until my oldest son was diagnosed in the third grade, but it explained so much. When I have any strong feeling (anger, empathy, love), it's like my emotions block the area of my brain that turns them into words. I can write a 60,000 word science fiction novel with no problem, but ask me to write a three sentence card telling my wife how much I love her and it feels like I'm climbing a mountain. Thankfully, my wife is very understanding. (Married 21 years already!)
It's so interesting watching someone else experience how such a good character gets led along. "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" is about the perfect quote for this situation.
Wow, I was blown away by the animation when Belos raises the titan from the dead. I'm just glad Hooty was able to transform into a houseboat and save most of the main characters!
It always surprised me to see how much hate Hunter gets in this episode(from viewers/commenters, not in universe.). Yes, Amity was offering him a chance to switch sides and he didn’t take it, but you see him being emotionally manipulated in the very beginning of the episode, and Belos *raised* him. He sees a way to prove himself to someone who he bases his self worth on being useful to, and and the other option is to decide to trust someone he only just met and still views as an enemy. It wouldn’t make sense for him to make a different choice here.
Seriously. Characters always don't make the right decision. Yes it can be infuriating but that's good writing. It took Lilith decades to own up to her mistakes and even then atonement also took time. Even if they aren't a bad person at heart it doesn't mean they'll always accept the first olive branch they get. Amphibia proved that very well with its own blonde problem child. Gotta have patience.
@@MrWanton16 I’m glad you brought up Lilith there. Change is hard for people. People are conditioned from a young age and undoing it all is very hard. Especially for people Pleasers like Lilith and Hunter, they’d rather do anything they can to avoid other ppl seeing them as nothing.
Ghost is based on Dana’s own cat, also named Ghost. So, both she and fellow _Gravity Falls_ alumnus Matt Braly put their own cats into their own shows.
Akira Toryiama put two cats of his into Dragon Ball. Korin, and Beerus. That's right the God of Destruction is based on his Egyptian hairless cat he has in real life. Which has dictated the entire theme of the 11 other Gods of Destruction to be wearing Egyptian inspired clothing.
I replayed that fight sequence so many time. also for someone who call herself an idiot your predictions were, as usual, spot on (the key and the owl beast deal)

The fight scene between Hunter vs Amity was truly remarkable especially that the voice actress for Amity “Mae Whitman” she also played Katara from Avatar and the way Katara is a master water bender I feel like Amity fights like a Waterbender with her Abomination Goop such a clever way to look at it
the idea is that amity carved her palisman at home during Hunting Palismen. shes rich and can probably afford palistrom wood. also im aroace! cool to see another aro out there! lilith is too! (confirmed outside the show so not in-show-canon unfortunately)
(At 4:40) I find that hard to believe considering what happened on the finale of season 1 with Lilith and what Hunter said about him on season 2's premiere. Season 1 finale: he lied to Lilith about helping her sister. Season 2 premiere: after golden guards last words before he left: "And try to stay out of trouble. The emperor's *NOT* a merciful man. Byyyye! If I so if I had a choice of words to describe him it'd be "Damn good, liar" or "Damn old Deceiver"
"Wait, when did this happen? Did I miss an episode?" (Amity's parents probably had a palisman ready for her so she didn't get a hand me down) It's just the crew rushing the plot a bit because Season 3 was shortened. Don't worry. Just go with it.
This episode has so many similarities with Crossroads of Destiny from ATLA (spoilers for ATLA if you haven't seen it yet): . . . . . . . . . * Amity and Katara are both voiced by Mae Whitman (they can also control liquids using magic and are the protagonist's love interest) * Zuko and Hunter are both from royal families and they are given the choice of switching sides * Both of them are stuck in a green cave while being chased by an army * They have a heart-to-heart talk about how they're not so different (both want to impress the people they look up to) * Male character sees their chance and betrays female character * Epic fight scene There's probably a few more details I'm forgetting. But there are so many parallels that I bet the crew definitely used ATLA as inspiration.
Inspiration probably not. That would imply them choosing everything just to align with that show, which isn’t as likely as you think since the Owl House is inspired by things more strongly than it is ATLA. It’s more likely them purposefully creating a direct emotional and plot parallel with an allusion they’d know other ppl would notice.
@@ma.2089 "That would imply them choosing everything just to align with that show" not really. Taking inspiration doesn't mean derailing your story to create a copy. But I agree that the similarities are probably coincidental
They're probably fans of the show but often times life imitates other stuff. If anything, I'd wager that they asked the voice actor about their favorite episodes and incorporated it while giving a great episode. They are super talented story tellers.
I love it when Hunter realizes Belos is actually evil, then goes and falls in love with Flapjack’s first owner’s ex’s possible descendant’s first human child’s first witch friend
A lot of the lore-dump qualities probably relate to the fact Disney cut down the show to two seasons and 3 hour-long specials, so a lot of stuff happens off panel, like Amity acquiring Ghost and the Tomogachi-style communicators. I'm just glad that they had enough time for the beach episode - Dana and the team really went all out with the fan service for the swimsuits, especially Hunter's epic speedo!
Seriously, the tomogachis weren't even that big of a deal. We already know Eda hordes human stuff, I doubt Dana ever intended to waste time retreading established details, especially when almost half of S1 involved Eda selling garbage.
By the way there is a story on Episode called Not Heartless It’s about a college student coming to terms with her aromanticism, who also happens to be bisexual
13:02 ah yes, whenever I make emotional connections like with my friends, the only thing I want for the people around me is for them to be their best selves and happiest selves. So I would literally give the world for my friends. I can relate so much to this.
I'm pretty sure the green stuff in the tubes in the Titan's Bile, magically potent, but lacking the same properties as Titan's Blood. Luz' love language is acts of service.
My humble support to the channel and i wish everyone warm feelings while waiting for Christmas. P.S. Lofi Girl´s channels and JMJ´s EoN app also forms a lot of the background music i want.
@@WeeLassReacts My pleasure. I'm looking for my Christmas spirit. I could say that i encountered "The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come". Among other things, i started supporting two of my favorite UA-cam channels.
When the animation quality goes up you’re in for: A: an epic fight scene B: Something gay Or C: both Just like in the season finale when Willow and Boscha have a duel to the death before they end up kissing.
Apparently drawing all those glyphs that she uses really builds up the muscles. There's likely whole days of "non show time" that's just Luz taking stock of her glyph inventory and deciding that she needs to draw 10 more plant glyphs, 5 more fire glyphs, and a dozen more invisibility glyphs.
With the amount of friction between them, it's odd how they make Amity's and Hunter's polyamorous relationship with Luz feel so natural by the end of the season.
This episode is great because it foreshadows how Amity is an Awesome Girlfriend by Amity being an Awesome Girlfriend and did you know that Amity is an Awesome Girlfriend?
I kinda love how much of Hunter's sassy sarcastic side mostly went into the background the second his mask came off. Like it's still there, but he feels like someone whose confidence melts when others can see him. Goes to his overall self-image. It's also symbolic of his character arc starting, since you could argue Hunter wasn't the sarcastic one: the Golden Guard was.
Part of why you might be a bit confused is by interviews, they cut out quite a few episodes so they could deal with the show being canceled after a short season 3. So there are gaps here and there.
10:27 Remember, this show was shortened; they had to move the story along a bit quicker. So anything that doesn't need an explanation might as well happen offscreen. (Also it says UR Pretty which is so precious)
I like that you pause and really look at the background stuff. It's fun to see others heavily invested. I wouldn't be surprised if gravity falls has made you so nervous about it all 😂 but ya, you're noticing stuff I didn't for a while, good on ya.
I think there is a clip somewhere on UA-cam of a part of Dana's stream where she played a recording of Hunter's research on his palisman! You should look it up, it's pretty entertaining(and it doesn't contain spoilers for future episodes, but I get ur trying to restrict searching things up abt toh).
Yeah, I think we should send her a link to it after she finishes s3 e1. The reason why is that UA-cam might start recommending her some spoilers if she views an OH video
I am the same with love language and I have never been in a relationship. Gus and Hootys scream. With some titans blood, do they have enough to make a portal back home? I never like spoiling surprises.

I feel you on the showing part. I was always told that I'm good at big gestures but terrible at showing the everyday things. I was never very subtle when it came to showing affection or perceptive of subtle gestures from others..
This show has what I call the Avatar Effect. The animation looks simplistic and not that impressive but when a fight kicks off it becomes the most beautiful piece of art.
At first, I was also confused about the symbols Luz was typing to Amity. But, if you look at it another way, the symbols act like letters sometimes. Remember, she couldn't send messages on her phone anymore because she destroyed the portal, cutting off the Wi-Fi from the Human Realm. So, these game devices are Luz and Amity's only chance of communication through emoticons that look like letters.

In other words, if a Grimwalker is a type of clone, the ortet is the person or creature the Grimwalker is cloned from, hence why they need a bit of material from the original's body.
Of course, Hunter being a clone of Hooty raises a lot of questions about how their genetics work.
LOL you totally had me in that first half hahahahahaha
@@WeeLassReacts It's actually true. This is why Hunter goes 'Byeee' in the same way as Eda - back when Eda and Belos were partners and used to travel to the human realm together, he harvested some of her hair and used it to create Hunter.

It won't have the same impact if you just keep going and all of a sudden see the time skip where Luz and Amity are 18 and are roommates in Witch College.
Not to mention when Hooty becomes the isles prime minister
And all the drama with Eda's curse and it accelerating her age, making her so much older than she would be. You really have to have that ✨cliffhanger experience✨ to enjoy it properly.

@@WeeLassReacts and then you'll need to wait 6 - 9 months before watching season 3. So you can appreciate the appearance of Azura Noceda-Blight.
Yes, Luz demanded top billing.
Oh my god, they were roommates
There's one more emoji message in this episode, right near the beginning when Luz is sick. Reading it sideways, Luz is telling Amity "UR PRETTY", which is absolutely adorable :3
Ya I know. I picked that up as well the first time it showed ❤
Get excited, it's going to get weird!
@@BluAru one unfortunate western thing is the disrespect and disbelief that ppl other than literal toddlers will watch animation
Two shows I’ve fallen for recently got cancelled for not existing within typical western animation expectations, ignoring the fact that times have changed for some, and instead of capitalizing on the new change and advocating for more change, they just cancelled the boundary pushers.
Or has he?

I like how this episode highlights the shared insecurity and need to over perform that Amity and Hunter deal with.
It's called foils, and it's a pretty basic element of story craft that is easy to use but difficult to master.

Your powers of prediction are nothing short of incredible. The amount of predictions you get correct blows my mind.

I’m sure she knows your love language if you’ve been married so long :)
It's so interesting watching someone else experience how such a good character gets led along.
"Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" is about the perfect quote for this situation.

Amity in her winter outfit looks so much better with the purple hair.
Fun fact: "Ortet" is a real botanical term. It's the original plant that is used when making a clone of said plant.

* Amity and Katara are both voiced by Mae Whitman (they can also control liquids using magic and are the protagonist's love interest)
* Zuko and Hunter are both from royal families and they are given the choice of switching sides
* Both of them are stuck in a green cave while being chased by an army
* They have a heart-to-heart talk about how they're not so different (both want to impress the people they look up to)
* Male character sees their chance and betrays female character
* Epic fight scene
There's probably a few more details I'm forgetting.

Oh my fucking god I just realized who you're talking about, smart! 💚💛
This is amazing
The one Amity responded "You got it!" to was "U R PRETTY!"
Man, Hunter could have give David Bowe a run for his money in that episode.
To bad those designs put the entire fandom on a watch list.
I'm guessing that since Amity's parents are of higher status, maybe she was able to carve her own palisman :)
By the way there is a story on Episode called Not Heartless

When the animation quality goes up you’re in for:
A: an epic fight scene
B: Something gay
Or C: both
Just like in the season finale when Willow and Boscha have a duel to the death before they end up kissing.
The very first message from Luz said, btw, "U R PRETTY"
(At 11:40) how the *Hell* did she get from…
Luz: "Noooo! My weak nerd arms."
to _this?_
Gus: "She is *shockingly* strong!"
Strong willed.
Living in the Demon Realm is a great workout for a human, clearly.
Plus the "Aaaaand scoop!" scene. Witches are either hollow or Luz got jacked after getting into the isles.
I figure since witches can use telekinesis they don't have as much muscle mass, thus lighter. Luz is just stronger in comparison.
"Awesome girlfriend" counter! :D
With the amount of friction between them, it's odd how they make Amity's and Hunter's polyamorous relationship with Luz feel so natural by the end of the season.

Ortet, Noun: the original plant from which the members of a clone have descended
So there are gaps here and there.
you know, if we look at Luz and Amity's love relationship from a different angle, they are quite cute
Rascal is a nickname, but the real name has the same number of syllables, but it's just a bit longer.

Yas!!!!! This is One of my fav episode of this show:) I am do happy you finally watched it
I feel you on the showing part.
The red bird palisman's name is "Flapjack". It was revealed inbetween episodes 10 and 11 in an art livestream that the owl house crew did.
All the answers to your questions on what is going on will be answered... soon! Its in a couple of episodes (a bit down the line) but oh man is it going to be a fun episode.

Fun fact amitys palisman ghost is basically just dana pet cat ghost
I was so glad when Hunter revealed that he went back to the castle after this episode, and still had the key with him.
You're brightening up a very cold and rainy/snowy day here
Another of my favourite episodes, there's so much going on! Forgive them for picking on Hunter, they basically only know him as the Golden Guard, plus what Luz might have told them.
And yes, the fight scene is sooo crazy good! One of those moments where the action, the animation and the music just click into place.
Also, the first message Luz sends to Amity on that little thingie reads "U R PRETTY". Gotta love those cute and awesome girlfriends 🤎💜
OMFG SHES SUCH A CUTE DORK I LOVE HER HAHAHAHA
OH you guys have the cold weather there too? :( it's not been above -3 celcius here in over a week! My feet are covered in chilblains, and my flat is currently sitting at *squints at thermometer* 12 celcius hahaha
I'm currently sitting huddled in a massive xmas jumper
@@WeeLassReacts Aww, 12 degrees is incredibly cold! Better wrap yourself in lots of warm and cuddly things, dont want you to get a cold, or worse
But I can beat you with the outdoor temperature, yesterday morning we had some whopping -17 degrees outside here... and today its back "up" to 0 once again. I'm living in the southernmost part of Germany, just a stone's throw away from the Alps. The weather can be pretty crazy here, especially during winter 🥶
