Info: Hedgehogs are normally active at night, but they still need to build up fat reserves just before hibernation. Although this hedgehog is not malnourished, but it still needs fat reserves. It would be good if you not only film, but also support him with suitable food and water. Thanks.
Hi, Thanks for your comment. I have been watching this hedgehog for about the last 5 years now. He {I'm only guessing when i say he) always seems to come out in the evening about 1 to 2 hours before sunset. He takes the same path thru several properties every day about the same time. He looks healthy no sign of mange. I do have water out for wild animals in the summer months. I have not tried giving him cat food as i don't want to make him sick if it does not agree with him. It's just the start of summer in New Zealand. He has not long came out of hibernation here and is looking in good shape.
@@David5467 Kind regards to New Zealand. I didn't even know there were hedgehogs there. Thanks for your information. My comment comes from Austria. Here in Central Europe, hedgehogs are unfortunately threatened with extinction. Unfortunately there aren't enough insects here. Hedgehogs can be supported with cat food, soldier fly larvae, and boiled, unseasoned eggs. Of course, I always have fresh water available for our garden animals. Best regards
