  • Gareth Wyn Jones is the outspoken Welsh hill farmer who starred in the BBC’s Family Farm. He believes that the disconnection between town and country is driving a wedge between the two communities - and, in this talk, he spells out why.

Get the community back together, get back some of the smallest and oldest traditions, everyone taking part and caring for, and keeping nature alive, and being a part of it, know their history and their environment and how to live with it…. Priceless…. That’s Real Knowledge and a Real Education….

A good watch,, it would be great if all our farmers could join together to sell their produce and put the big supermarkets out of business, instead of being controlled and ripped off by them and our government, take back control, we need our farms and our farmers not lobbyists and control in Westminster

We need eloquent people like Gareth to be speaking on our behalf, we all fumble for words to express how we feel and this man does it so well. He would win hands down in a discussion or debate with the urban conservationists, the world savers, the super gluers to tarmac, the window painters and the works of art destroyers. Educated, sensible words like these spoken by a Gareth will win every time.

Top man, I watched a very good interview he did with the GWCT a while back where he outlined the measures the local farming community are going to to improve habitat, soil and all the rest. The disconnect he mentions is real. Most people see the countryside as a Disney channel theme park. Which we know it isn't.
    We need more Gareths!

I'm 9:37 in and had to pause to write this...if this guy ever goes for PM he gets my vote! Straight talking with dignity and respect to all ways of living and being truthful with it! It truly is a breath of fresh air to hear someone talking sense and fact about what happens to attain our daily way of living. The vegan part especially hit home, knowing a few vegans they always preach the 'i don't harm anything to have my way of life'...really!?!?! Great watch and great man, hopefully this word will spread and we'll come together to promote such knowledge.

Is a real shame here in Merseyside a lot of the farms have been purchased up by commercial companies some have been used for building on and others for commercial farming a lot of the remaining farms are not economic viable I think these smaller farms would do OK if they asked for free help on social media from the surrounding communities who many like my self would love to learn and relish the experience

I’ve been aware of the growing divide between towns people and country people for years now. The divide is still growing. Awareness, education and communication is key to solving the differences in opinion, but the city voice against country living and country ways shows a lack of listening too.

I reamber as a child in Cubs going to visit a. Farm, and seeing pigglets for the first time. The famer showed me the mother's and then let me go in the barn with the pigglets. I stayed the hole day with them pigglets. I think this goes to show that what this gentleman says is true we have Lost the connection with our food where it comes form. Maybe more town kids need a school visit to a farm??

A good point no doubt healthy living shows it pays off. Speaker looks like a jolly green giant body builder. Interesting history, natural organic is best no genetically modified poison (non-GMO) natural is best leafy green plants are strong plants. They don't get attacked by insects. Plus no poison in the soil. Cows that eat grass in the field are happy cows, they produce the best milk. Artificial farming is cruel. The cows have never seen a blade of green grass. They are kept in pens all day long. Bring cows back where they belong eating grass in the fields frolicking. I once planted an entire forest, we need trees for oxygen. I used to work in the forest thining out trees that larger trees can grow. The trees we cut down went for fence posts or gate posts. The brash was left in the rows to recycle back into the earth. Look at the ugle supermarkets. They make mass profit but give nothing back to the community. Instead small businesses have to pay high rent. Thubms up share.
