The girl in the chair is the actual singer in the song, Karin.
And the first boy who starts dancing is the man behind the steel drums, Olof. The Dreijer siblings.
Funny that you find this video bizarre, just because the flavour of the video isn't typically American.
The video is full of feeling, mood and expression. It talks to the actualt lyrics and is not made for any other purpose than to support the actual song.

THE KNIFE is quite a box to open, congratulations! I wish I'd hear them for the first time again. My first was "Silent shout", introduced by Per from Roxette... Those were times.
Have you seen them? I'm an idiot and I wasn't super into them when they were doing their Silent Shout tour. I didn't go. A few years later I listened to that album and I still kick myself for not going to that show! 😭
@@ijustneedmyself Unfortunately I didn't go see them, because I expected them to get even bigger, with better albums, but they decided to make an "opera" and all these projects, then they separated, Olof didn't like Karin's domination, and he wanted to do more techno, while she wanted to experiment more... I just cherish what they created back then.
@@platovaya Dang. We're in the same boat. Well, maybe they will eventually decide to ride the nostalgia wave like others have. Their earlier stuff is so good!

The Knife and Fever Ray are just perfection. Perfectly non-American.
The singer in the vid is a dude called Rickard Engfors. When the Knife released this record my mind was blown away. Still love their music!
Wow, The Knife?! I first heard my brother playing them in his room in 2004 and have loved them since (and Fever Ray, whose debut album is one of the best albums I've ever heard). I've not seen anyone reacting to The Knife so I'm looking forward to this!
Their song Heartbeats was a real phenomenon when it came out.
In an interview, Karin said this was inspired by a scene in "Tacones lejanos", a film by Pedro Almodovar, where a famous latin american singer, Miguel Bose, plays a drag performer.
"The thug" reference is about the audience that normally would be intolerant to her, even hostile. Which is what's going on in many intolerant places on Earth.

Fun fact the guy who starts dancing first and the girl staring at the end are real siblings and are in fact The knife, whitch is a sibling duo and the real singer is the girl at the end

just wanna add that in France or Europe, we use to say "original", "avant-guardiste", or at least "interesting", to highlight the fact that people or artists take risks by offering something different, even it would seem "bizzare" or "wierd", I think it's interesting to understand the semantics or maybe other cultural reasons that make us qualify something new.....

A Swedish brother and sister duo. The singer in the clip is stunningly beautiful Rickard Engfors, a former drag show artist, now a successful stylist for Melodifestivalen/Eurovision acts among many things, very talented. Here's another of their hits, very typical for their style:

The director of the video is Johan Renck, also from Sweden. He was musically known as Stakka Bo, now a successful film and tv-series Director in the US, cooperated with David Bowie just before he passed. Johan's hit from the 90's is a hoot and also very low budget, maybe something to do a first reaction to?😉 It's very catchy and funny but also has a serious message more actual today than ever.

I discovered this song in the Xavier Dolan's movie "Les amours imaginaire" and I love the moment when they dance on this music.

Lol, the one girl just sitting there and staring eerily is actually Karen Dreijer, the singer of the band (the sister of the boy dancing with the performer). She is a total genious, you should also check out her newer project "Fever Ray".
This video is genious as well in so many ways, how it just plays with our expectations on so many levels (like the music itself). From the drag singer in such a setting setting, to Karins voice with that performer, to the audience whom you do not expect to appreciate or even tolerate a drag singer, to that boy just starting dancing with them etc...

The knife are brother and sister from Sweden. It’s the brother singing as a girl and at some moment the sister is also in the clip but it’s all about exeptance. They’re in a village and people are sceptique in the beginning but at the end everybody is dancing with the boy dressed as a girl. They spread a message of love and the message that you can be whoever you want to be! And on top of that the music is great! And all the people are from different nationality. The girl staring without moving the narrator is talking about is the sister! Love each other! ❤️
