    Why not allow the processing to live on generic devices i.e. phones, tablets, PCs? That way the performance is flexible to your budget and would contribute to the longevity of the device.

      It can on steam deck or pc. But android has to live in an app without root access. Which they aren't going to touch. Which is why they made their own flavor of android with it at a system level in beam pro.

      @@justinseans It run's very well maybe even better in Samsung DEX. You might be able to root that phones if you wanted to. I have an S24 ultra and compared to it running on the Beam Pro (which is good, need improving) Nebula is something else when you install it on the phone without using DEX also using the Nebula app. Yes it does run in user mode so by default no direct access to the Kernel but maybe if jail broken who knows?

      Hi there! You can absolutely use our XREAL Air series glasses with a compatible device. XREAL Beam Pro was created to close the gaps caused by smartphone manufacturers in regard to taking advantage of the spatial computing capabilities present in our XREAL Air series glasses. Screen mirroring for that immersive, cinematic feel is definitely an awesome use case, and our Nebula Android application that showcases AR is compatible on on Android phones, however XREAL Beam Pro aims to bring the best of both together into one device.

    What I really want from this concept is something even more stealth. I just want it to do things like "project a route onto the world", show text messages in the side of your view, be able to do Google Lens type searches. Really just a HUD. Set your navigation, put phone in pocket and follow the line / arrow.

      Agreed. Some form of AR navigation, time, messages, and maybe spotify tucked in the corner. Video is cool and all but good AR should find it's footing in utility before trying to replace TVs imo.

      you can use sideview option and open google maps on your Samsung DEX. the only way to navigate while wearing them is still only by putting your phone out and wand navigate with it tho.
      Really the display and hardware tech is already there, its just the OS navigation tech, how small you can pack the array of lens and sensors on the Apple Vision Pro into a pair of sunglasses is what's hard.

    I purchased the original Nreal air when they came out and gave them to my daughter as a college graduation gift. They were about $350ish at the time. I got to use them this past week and after a bit more research, I just ordered myself a pair for less than $200. At that price they are still an amazing piece of tech and would highly recommend, especially if you are a galaxy user whom travels frequently.

    @12:58 The Beam Pro is considered a "second" device, but the Apple Vision Pro also requires a secondary "device" battery pack, without which it is useless. Additionally, the Vision Pro is significantly heavier than the XReal glasses. Tech reviewers never criticize Apple, even when they do way less on their devices compared to those of other companies.

    Bought an Air2 pro a month ago, have been using it whenever I'm out, both during travel like in trains and whenever I arrive at the lodging, it's just so comfortable to watch movies in whatever the most comfortable resting position is all while not tiring my hands.
    Bought the Basic Beam with it, IMO it's best used with phones with desktop mode like Samsung Dex, am using it with LG V60's desktop mode and even with its janky os, it's still so enjoyable watching movies on it.

    • @MuhammadKharismawan
      @MuhammadKharismawan 4 місяці тому +1

      @@l89strike75 yes, I I much prefer the watching experience of it over my Meta Quest 2.
      One is its way higher resolution than most VR headset, second it's OLED, most times I don't need to crank out the brightness, third it's the comfort, it's so light, feeling just slightly worse than wearing thicker sunglasses.
      And last and most obviously, im not brave enough to wear the Meta Quest anywhere outside. (and their comfort is abysmal anyway)
      And yeah, wearing it feels better than just using u I ur smartphone screen:
      1. People can't see what you watch
      2. The resolution and sense of distance make it better experience than watching a movie by holding it close upright in your hand, and more comfortable for your eyes (looking at close object all the time will worsen your eyes).
      3. Way less tiring for your arm and neck, just settle to your most comfortable posture and watch the movie in front of you, or just on the ceiling. 😂

      Review: Xreal Air 2 Ultra & Beam Pro
      After spending a few days with the Xreal Air 2 Ultra and Beam Pro, here are my thoughts:
      Ultimate On-the-Go Display: This device is perfect for any Android app and streaming media. It’s truly the ultimate portable display solution.
      Seamless Connectivity: I’ve used it extensively with Anydesk, and thanks to Windows 11 Pro, I can use Android RDP to log directly into the console. It’s incredibly convenient.
      Screen Recording Limitation: The screen recording feature seems to be capped at 30 seconds, which might be a setting I haven’t discovered yet. However, this limitation doesn’t apply to 3D recording via the device.
      Specifications:
      Model: Xreal X4000, Android 14
      Battery: 4300mAh
      Processor: 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 @1.80 GHz, 4 x ARM Cortex A55 @2.21 GHz
      Cores: 8 Cores, 3 Threads
      Resolution: 1080 x 1140 pixels, 300 DPI (Per Eye)
      Impressions:
      Field of View: The field of view is impressive, though future models will need to improve in this area to compete with the likes of the Apple Vision Pro.
      Display Quality: The screens are exceptional, with vivid colours that stand out.
      Performance: The 8GB model performs well, though the 6GB model might not be as robust.
      Overall, for the price, the Xreal Air 2 Ultra & Beam Pro offer a very impressive experience.

      @@Rowan1974 Thank you for coming back and leaving the review! I have a question, if you can answer it: Can you use the hand-tracking while using any apps, or only specific apps? Like, could you use Anydesk, or browse UA-cam with the touchless interface?

    • @Rowan1974
      @Rowan1974 4 місяці тому

      @psiga So far I noted the hand tracking to be quite buggy. So I turned this off for now. I will say I do envisage one issue being the field of view. So because you cannot see your hands directly below you, you need to raise then quite high or look down. It's hard to explain. But it dies work. To be fair I haven't given it a fair trial yet. Hope this helps. I will try UA-cam and ms rdp for android and report back later.

      What sort of cost were they

    • @Rowan1974
      @Rowan1974 4 місяці тому +2

      @riley881 The Xreal Air 2 Ultra cost me £699 but the Pros are almost just as good with a slightly smaller FoV at £499 I think. The Beam Pro mine cost £234 but it is the higher spec model at 8gb and 256gb of storage. But it has an up to 1TB SD card support. TBH the Beam Pro does offer some extra bells and whistles that say DEX can offer but no lie, it rocks with DEX anyway as long as you don't mind the screen being in a fixed position to your face. A friend tried it out with his iPhone 14, and it was ausome with air casting. You can also get Nebula for your Windows or Mac, which I understand works very well, but I haven't tested it properly. The chromatic dimming on the Pro and Ultra are ausome. The screens are fantasic quality, no blurring, just punchy crispy rich displays. The Beam Pro can also take 3d videos and photographs, which is very cool. Hope that helps.

    I don't get why you would use the beam with steam deck. For steam deck users, there are already xr plug ins you can download from decky that makes the screen stay in place in lots of games and you can even use some kind of head tracking to aim in fps games. The beam seems useless if you are gonna use it only with steam deck.

      I was just thinking while I was watching the video, why couldn't the Steam Deck receive the gyro information and do the projection as part of its regular 3d rendering. It would also have way less latency that way - presumably the Beam has to do the translation at the raster level, which is going to add latency.

I have the be as well but didn't like the lack of apps and support. Having the full Google suite on the Pro is an amazing feat and a welcoming one. Plus 200$ for a tablet/phone is almost nothing in a world of devices over $1000. I have the Pixel fold which I love but Google didn't allow casting to the beam nor does it have a display port for the glasses which is a bit of a let down so having the beam pro is a nice thing to have plus I can offline download my apps, music, and videos without the glasses in preparation for using them. Closest thing right now is the 4XVR app on Quest 3, sadly. It will play full-quality, unmodified Blu-ray 3D rips.
      Sony came close to giving me what I wanted years ago with PSVR1 supporting direct 3D playback in the headset from discs, but the resolution was super-low.
      Then PS5 didn't even support Blu-ray 3D and PSVR2 had much worse lenses than PSVR1.

    Thank you for this overview. I had looked at their website a while ago and couldn’t figure out which model does what. Their product line up is a big mess and I got the feeling that all product pages were kind of separate, not acknowledging the other choices. I also didn’t see an easy way to compare the different offerings. I eventually gave up. This video made it somewhat clearer. I think they really need to clean up and establish a clear good - better - best product grid. In general, their model seems like an interesting alternative to Apple’s all-in-one design for the Vision Pro. I’m sure it has many advantages to do it Apple’s way. It’s potentially more powerful. But it also leads to a device that is priced way above what it can actually do today. It’s also heavy and bulky. Apple glasses as an accessory to their many devices, mobile and otherwise, sounds really exciting to me.

I know you could hook up the Air glasses to your smart phone and screen mirror the camera app, wondering about the ability to tether an external camera like scope to the glasses themselves though for a more handsfree experience. Question. 1. Is the additiinal fov in the ultra considerable than then air 2? 2. Im considering between the air2 and air 2 pro is the pro worth getting considering the only difference is the monochrimaric dimming?

    • @UGEplex
      @UGEplex 5 місяців тому

      I'm finding the electrochromic dimming to be extremely useful. I don't have to keep track of the light blocker anymore. For a $50 difference above the stock Air 2, it's a nice feature to have. Not everyone needs/wants it, and if someone wants to do exterior (shades) lens mods get the Air 2 not the Pro as it'll kill the electrochromic dimming function, but otherwise I think it's worth it.

    • @UGEplex
      @UGEplex 5 місяців тому

      Also, it's a 5° FoV difference between the Air 2 and the Ultra (which is comparably far more expensive). It's definitely noticeable but not an exceptional difference. The one vision related benefit of the Ultra's over the Air 2/Pro is that it has a larger center focus window/visual "sweet spot" so like the Air 1's it's more likely for more people to have a good focal center/less likely to have blurry edges.

    Hi!
    So, I'm someone with Low Vision, and I'd love to see how these glasses fair as aids for my daily life.
    Can you take photos with the Pro or Ultra and see them afterwards?
    If so these could work as a kind of portable and more powerful magnifying glass.
    And do those glasses do a zoom on the projected screen or do you need the beams for that?
    And have you ever tried them to navigate with Google Maps? I'd love to see if they work as I unfortunately have some problems walking around. If I could see the Path while walking around, not having to stop to check the phone every time and risking getting lost and forgetting where I'm going (my memory sucks too. I blame the ADHD). If that works it could be a great help.
    I don't care much for prescription because my vision problem cannot be fixed with glass prescriptions. I use glasses mostly for protection so that is not an issue.
    I wish I could get my hands on these to test, unfortunately they don't have a physical store here and I can only get the glasses in the global store.
    My worries is paying like 500€ for something that won't help me and I won't have use for.

If your interest RD photos and video in a big way you're probably know who Dr T is and he's done a recent review on this which actually is quite good and for video it is absolutely brilliant apparently even photograph good straight out of the unit, the problem with it is the IPD is very narrow at 50 mm which means it's no good for landscape work but it takes better shots on the Fuji W3.
    Ideally Apple really should release the option to take 3-D photos. Everything is built into the iPhone 15 now and why they didn't allow still 3D photography with the new spatial video capture is beyond me..

    So what is the purpose of the second USB C port on the Beam Pro if it won't let you use the glasses as a display for things like Steam Deck? Is it just for charging the Beam Pro?
    And if you can't use it as an external display.. can you just install their app on your primary Android phone, which should be much more powerful than a little $200 Android device?
    But yeah, getting rid of the external display 3DOF functionality kills any interest I might of had. It's already an expensive buy-in, they shouldn't be removing features that were one of the main selling points of the previous Beam.
