    I love it. Another great class, Chase. I don't believe in a " Number One Best" in any musical endeavor, but your classes are amoung the best jazz guitar classes. It's all there, theory, exercises, practicality, beautiful music, plus whatever. ❤😊😊

    Great lesson, explaining Wes Montgomery's use of Diminished chords to 'fill' in other notes around Minor7 chord inversions, to play melodies with these different inversions off the top string. Its a pretty simple idea, of preceding each minor7 with its own Dom7b9, sounds fantastic, & that Wes used brilliantly, and you explained so well. Thanks Chase

    Wes does a great solo in THE THMB, a blues were the end of his chord solo he plays a chorus from a blues on Count Basie's 50s LP Atomic Basie called as I remember Splanky, arranged &/or composed by Neal Hefti. That chorus is played by lots of musicians in jam sessions.

    Great lesson. You were very clear about the harmonic idea and the Wes examples fit perfectly and they were actually playable. Also, the length of it was just right.

    Wes video?!?! - Okay I'm in! 🙂- great content as always my friend! Quick side question, have you listened to Julian Lage - "Tributary"? Or just Lage in general? I found him recently and he is quite a player, he blends Jazz with a few different things and it works very well. Anyway, just thought I'd ask - Have a great Saturday!

      Thanks Chris! 🙏 I haven’t checked out “Tributary” but I’m definitely a fan of Julian Lage. Was lucky enough to go to masterclass of his in Jacksonville when I was a student there. Appreciate the comment 🤘

    Just love these lessons, I just tend to go to chords over single note improvisation. Something that is a personal preference. Thanks for sharing.

    Awesome. Apply this to tunes keeping melody as highest note opens up a treasure trove of chord soloing ideas. Thanks and good luck at your new studio.

    Great lessons. Seems to be a lot of potential in developing drop 2 techniques and this lesson is a good beginning. There, in my mind, is a lot here. Thanks for posting!

    Really appreciate your comment @ 9.24 regarding "breaking down each melodic cell" of Wes' chord melody lines for practice -- versus trying to learn the whole line at once. I plead guilty of doing this.

    Chase, which Jazz books you have in the background ?

    • @ChaseMaddox
      @ChaseMaddox  2 роки тому

      The ones you’re probably seeing are these big Jazz tomes. One is “The Oxford companion to Jazz” and the other is “The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings”.
