I had the first few episodes on VHS. It is impressive how dedicated they were to this - high concept, low fantasy, and trusting that even a young audience need not be talked down to or have their hands held.
Same here. Never could find the other VHS episodes if they even existed, and it always left me wondering where the series went as it ended with a cliff hanger from just the VHS.
Same. I had two, in finnish dub, I think they only did two in finnish dub. And they're translated word to word. Usually dubs are pretty bad. This must be the best dub I've ever heard.
I was so extremely invested in this show when I was young. Just hearing that music again gave me goosebumps. This is what sparked my fascination and love for the Arthurian legends.
Same here! Especially the piece, when Synan's (Sinan's?) men attack at about 5:20. Shivers without end. Unfortunately this one is missing on the official Soundtrack by Exchange. Plus in the German intro there is actually not "Out where the truth lies" playing but a German narrator introduces into the story, that gives me shivers every single time, as well Best show of all times. Ever.
my childhood memories, the only animation when i was a kid that really shows medieval times reality, people get killed in war,the other animation never shows that,so i was really enjoying this when i was a kid, thank you for uploading this.
that opening scene talks about some pretty complex notions of life and and existence for a kids show, this show really pushed some boundaries on story telling aimed for kids.
Everything about Prince Valiant inspired me as a child :) I owe a LOT to this show. Especially that moment in episode 3, where he's facing off against Robert... Dang.
For those of you who are new to this great series, it aired on the Family Channel in the early to mid 90s, right before "The 700 Club". Unfortunately, the host of the "700 Club" found the show to be too violent to be a lead in to his show, and the show was taken off air. The lead voice actor, Robby Benson, is also most known for his portrayal as The Beast, in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast". Also, Paige O'hara, who voices Belle, also makes an appearance on this show as the Princess Aleta. This is such a great series and I remember it fondly from my childhood.
This ' cartoon ' is branded on my sight, along with the lessons it taught me. The intro song gave me goosebumps and made me make swords out of every stick i found in the Woods. This series is gold!
I think Prince Valiant's sinewy leg muscles made Robertson feel things he was ashamed of. I remember having a vhs of what must have been the first few episodes and i loved watching them over and over.
Too Violent?!? 6:39.... Oh... I guess a man is pushed to his obvious death right there... but come on! Have they even READ the bible?!? That thing is chock full of violence, debauchery, infanticide, and all sorts of crazy contradictory nonsense. I mean, talk about a preachy book! Everybody is a sinner... except for this one guy. And sure... I bet Pat Robertson though Prince Valiant was wicked.... but let me tell you about another so-called wicked guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was... I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. You know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?
Wow! I’m actually retroactively envious of anyone who has this show wreathed in nostalgia! I wish I knew about this as a kid. It doesn’t condescend to its audience, does it?
This was such a special part of my life when I was a little kid in South Africa in 1991. Prince Valiant was part of the Friday afternoon ritual, but first it was Felix the Cat. Then Valiant. The opening sequence gives me chills, man. Confirmation that I haven't hallucinated ALL of my experiences to date.
The comics are good too. The entire series has been around for 84 years through different publishers and they're *still* making prints to this day through Marvel.
I was searching for shows that were about medieval fantasy after watching Trollhunters trilogy so I made a search online and this is one of the results that came out and it matches the type of show that I wanted to watch
I recall watching thins in my early teens. It was something that I greatly enjoyed watching on those Sundays when my grandmother and I weren't able to make it to service that day. This was one of the programs along with Zorro that came on The Family Channel. Those days are gone now and what mostly comes on television now consists of violence and profanity. Not really having a perfect not teaching a lesson. I wish that I could find the complete series of its run.
I remember seeing this on Family Channel in the 90’s as a kid and of course Robby Benson not only was the voice of the hero of this series he also voiced Prince Alexander of Daventry in King’s Quest VI and also the Beast in Disney’s Beauty & the Beast.
Watching Excalibur last night it instantly sparked memories of this old gem which I had thought completely forgotten about. Probably around 10 watching this in the 90's.
Holy shit NEVER have i watched or even heard of this, but being a big fan of old cartoons and such Just, holy shit, this is definitely already the best thing I've seen, first episode sure is powerful, time to see what's in the second episode
3:33 something people should understand here is 3-1 is actually decent odds for someone who has a castle, a castle is a tremendous obstacle for the enemy force to overcome even if they outnumbered them 6-1
add that to the fact that the fortress is on a cliff meaning the enemy cant attack from all sides spiting your own forces wall also giving you a way to feed your self so they cant starve you out
I remember watching this cartoon when I was 6 or 7 years old. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the show as a child since I moved to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. But thanks to you Comics Kingdom, I saw this from start to finish this year. Thank You!
Wow this guy voiced all the best princes. He had the most royal voice of the 90s I suppose lol I love his prince voice so much. The beast and Alexander in king's quest 6
Anyone else approaching the age of 40 and showing this to their kids? Anyone else's kids stopped watching and find themselves approaching the age of 40 and just carrying on watching?
Usually idea behind the siege is that besieged side eventually loose all food and water and they surrender unles they want to die out of starvation...People can not also imagine how psychology and fear can help defeat others...
I think Prince Valiant has a much better hair design in this than the other reincarnations and i actually like Robby Bennon's performance as the title character too.
Crazy how unlike most shows at the time, people die all the time in this show. Arrows peirce flesh, swords stab, makes bash, axes fall, and people straight up die. A far cry from. The days of harmless lasers and shooting around people and at boxes.
Seeing how the men fail in this episode and frequently through the series, it's not very Patriarchal. Usually their victories come from things like diplomacy and cooperation with one another
Kids watched Robin hood and dragon heart films ect . Prince Valiant was a good cartoon for 8+ whereas too many cartoons are aimed at younger children and older children get bored watching content for their younger brothers and sisters
Bless the owner of this channel. The nostalgia.....
The effort put in to the opening of this episode has more effort and soul behind it than most AAA films these days.
Absolutely, it's so great.

The flashbacks in the Gargoyles show are pretty epic as far as 90s animated fantasy goes.
that opening scene talks about some pretty complex notions of life and and existence for a kids show, this show really pushed some boundaries on story telling aimed for kids.
This is what kids' TV was like before The Dumbening got to it.
Everything about Prince Valiant inspired me as a child :) I owe a LOT to this show. Especially that moment in episode 3, where he's facing off against Robert... Dang.
It's strange really how it's practically obscure in the public knowledge nowadays.🤷♂️
And thats why people are much more stupid these days.
@@jelly434 Not really. Don't pretend this was not an exception even back then.

Ironically, this show was taken off The Family Channel because the host of the 700 Club, which aired after it, thought it was too violent.

My favorite series.
I remember every single episode coming home from school and watching it on bbc 1 , think the story is based on king Arthur.

Not quite, I'm approaching 40 and considering getting friends of mine to show it to their kids
Wow, Prince Valiant is really big on high hopes isn't he?
Holy S@@t. I've just remembered this exists!
Such a good show
Dan Larson thank you for mentioning this channel.

If I ever had a small crush on cartoon figures, Rowanne sure was one of them. She was cool :)
I love how Roth taught Valliant to be a better person when they had to live in the marsh

6:24 The Spartan code!
Now this show would never have been made. Opening with an epic battle, with people being killed on screen. Not something that would be made now.
Very violent for a kids cartoon I say

What came first, the video game or the cartoon?
Well, this was based on a newspaper strip, but the cartoon predated the game

This would be cancelled for being patriarchal now.

I do not think this is a kid cartoon.
This is weird. Nothing like the personality of Prince Valiant at all.

I presume he's still got some learning to do, hence the attitude.
