Davie, for every negative comment, there's a 1000 (or more) positive ones over here. Here in the Netherlands we say 'high trees catch a lot of wind'. When you get bigger, you catch more wind. Both good and bad. You have 13,5 million (!) subscribers. Even if only 1% of these are haters, it's still 135.000 people. An entire city full of people. That's the downside of being this huge. Just keep in mind that for every city of haters, there's an entire country that absolutely loves you. Keep up the amazing work. Keep entertaining. And above all: keep talking.

I discovered you during lockdown, Davie. Middle aged parent. Didn’t play any instrument. You had me hooked immediately. Now, 3 years later, I play the bass every day and my son also decided to play as well. You created a middle aged bassist and a (very good) 11 year old bass player. We will always remember that it was you that inspired us to play.
I'm 60 and hadn't picked up a bass in 20 years. His humour (yes, I spell it that way) gave me a little push and I bought a new amp and now my neighbours (Yes, again, I spell it that way) hate me...

I don't even play bass but recorder and piano and sing and it so nice to get to know some other styles of musik like funk or jazz better. Hey Davie! I've always loved music but whenever I tried to learn an instrument I'd get stuck in a rut and stop playing. I found you over the pandemic and started SLAPPING the bass and it finally clicked and now I can play all sorts of different kinds of instruments. Thank you for being super inspiring to me and making really awesome videos!
I literally discovered your channel like 3 days ago and it makes me so sad that people would ever say stuff like that... especially cause after binging your videos, I cannot imagine you not talking! Your sense of humor is what is so captivating about you :) keep going!
I first discovered you back when you were the "silent bass guy" but I also remember you explaining that playing a character helps you be more confident in speaking to a camera so hearing you talk for 10 minutes without playing a character is pretty wholesome.
I don't usually leave comments under these videos because I feel like I won't be noticed, but I just wanted to say that I really appreicate what you do. The unfortunate truth is that haters are more likely to comment than enjoyers, so don't let that demotivate you!
I rarely comment on videos I like as well, but I 100% agree with you that haters will be far more motivated to make their voices heard and being a content creator you just have to ignore the haters and stick with what made you successful. Davie, I am the farthest thing from a musician. @@mzinns I assume its probably do to with pacing, because speaking is hard and the pacing when speaking may not be consistent. Like if someone falls back on filler words like "uh" or "um" a lot, it can slow down the pace and/or make it more annoying to listen to. Speaking to a crowd/camera, even with a script, is hard lol
Imagine the amount of editing time that goes into this. If he doesn't have some automated micro editing tool to help with this, it could be that this video was recorded many years ago and by now he is an old guy, just done editing 😊

As far as ideas.. have you ever thought of doing reviews/biographies of popular bass players/guitarists or bands? What makes them unique, any crazy stories, any custom gear, etc. I think it would be cool to have a "True Facts" type of series but about music and musicians.

Are you a new subscriber? Because his actual personality reveal was back in 2013 when he started doing QnA's, and at that time, there was no character. He started this serious type character in 2019 that changed everything as that increased his channel growth tremendously as people liked that especially and mostly the newbies, and he became way more popular due to which he kept on doing it and embraced it as his on screen persona. He was at 3 mill+ subs at the time, so by no means he wasn't a small youtuber, but this really boosted his channel and career a lot. Plus, he did a personality reveal video in 2021 for the new subs as he hit 9 mill subs, but us real OG's know. Hopefully, this gave you more insight. Honestly, I miss his earlier personality as he was a bit more cheerful and joyful then, but I do love his real personality coming out here and then, and I wish he does it even more.

You were the one that brought me to bass guitar. Ive been playing for almost 5.5 years now (i started on upright almost 11 years ago), and there's always nostalgia looking back on those old videos that brought me to this wonderful style and music, and of course I miss when every video was a showcase of cool bass techniques or challenges, but at the end of the day, you're still the same davie504 you were then, and it's always inspiring to see the things that you do

As a violinist, I support you & bass. I once heard a solo performance of Flight of the Bumblebee played on a Bass Violin, which made the violinists feel inferior because not only does it take so much more energy to vibrate bass strings with a clean tone, but we know the Bass Violin has a big metal spike in the bottom of the instrument, so I also accep because of fear of big metal spike.

Yeah, the first time I watched was a "__________ must be stopped" video. I clicked on it thinking "who does he think he is? god's gift to bass?" but I think it must have been 10-15 seconds before I got it and was a big fan. Once I started watching Davie504 I was getting suggestions for Steve Terreberry. Now there's a character but at the other extreme! Paul Gilbert is another favorite of mine who can integrate humor with his "brand".

Someone once told me “You know you’ve made it when people who you’ve never met dislike you” and this seems like exactly that.
Unfortunately attaining such a huge audience inevitably attracts the armchair critics who far too often forget that the creators who they’re criticising are actual human beings with feelings.
Blows my mind that people feel justified complaining about free entertainment, the entitlement online these days is insane.

In my experience, a lot of times, people will just hate because they are either miserable themselves or insecure with themselves. In both cases they try to drag others down in order to feel better about themselves (and I don't think it's something those people are even aware they are doing themselves a lot of the times) so it's not just the armchair critics.
I agree, people complaining about free entertainment is just absolutely absurd. Leaving some constructive criticism is great but the people who stick around to repeatedly complain just because they don't like something are just insufferable. Those people also need to learn that you can't please everyone. It's not that hard to say "I gave it a shot but this isn't for me" and move on.
The thing is I actually started watching your videos because of the skits, jokes and speaking parts. The Bass playing/music part of it was just an awesome bonus for me so I love your content.
