I'm doing this exact job at the moment and losing the will to live. We are installing an air con unit in our French house and I have a 60cm wall to get through. It has taken days and days of drilling at about 1-2 hours per day, holding it by hand as I started from the inside. Solid stone, probably granite. Tried to find diamond tipped core cutter but only found hardened steel. Now at about 43cms, and praying for some softer material like concrete or render etc to work my way through. Never again!

Lol trying to bore through 20" granite on my new 108 year old home. I was about to buy a new 4" core bit as I thought that was the issue. Took an hour to drill 3 inches. I admire your patience

That is about right. 3 inches per hour. More pressure will make it go faster. It is probably worth renting a core drill with a hand crank.

Lucky customer. Modernizing a museum isn’t for everyone.
