  • The body of Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi, who died in a helicopter crash, was buried after a ceremony at the Imam Reza Tomb in Mashhad.
Reisi was sent to his last journey in the city of Mashhad today after farewell ceremonies held in the cities of Tabriz, Qom, Tehran and Birjandi.
Reisi was brought to his hometown after his farewell ceremony in Birjand in South Khorasan province and his posters and black flags symbolizing mourning were hung on the streets of Mashhad, especially around the Imam Reza Tomb where he was buried.
After being welcomed at the airport, the bodies of Reisi and two other officials who died in the accident were brought to the Imam Reza Tomb, the country's holiest shrine.
The ceremony outside and inside the mausoleum began with the recitation of the Quran. Then prayers were offered for Reisi and the other officials and mourners were recited.
The ceremony was attended by high-level representatives and ministers from many countries, as well as Iranian civilian and military officials.
Reisi's body was buried in the evening in the area prepared for him inside the Imam Reza Shrine.
Iranian President Reisi was killed in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province on May 19 while returning from the opening of a dam on the border with Azerbaijan. Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who died in the same helicopter with Reisi, was buried in the city of Rey in Tehran.
