Everyone thinks Long John Silver is a villain within the world of literature. And while it’s true, he's greedy when he shows it. He kills, lies, and even swindles his way with things and people, there’s more to that. Robert Louis Stevenson also gave us an unexpected fatherly figure through this Pirate. We see Silver warm up to Jim Hawkins as a mentor, albeit flawed from his own life choices. Yet despite the sinister attributes of Long John Silver, he's not the worst villain in literature because he still cares for Jim Hawkins as if the boy was his own son.
