In this video I show you how to make a batch of worm tea for application to your garden or compost. Worm tea boosts the microbial activity of your soil, providing numerous benefits.
I speak briefly about a study in which the effect of aerated compost teas on plant growth is measured, "Effect of Aerated Compost Tea on the Growth Promotion of Lettuce, Soybean, and Sweet Corn in Organic Cultivation".
In addition to demonstrating the effectiveness of compost tea in increasing plant vigor, the study also measured microbial activity in four types of compost tea, one of which was worm tea.

you need a stronger pump. im sure bacteria is multiplying with that but trust me, ive made slides from my teas to check them as i work in a lab. that pump would work for maybe 1 gallon brews. i got a much larger pump and a better airstone and the amount of life i saw after was night and day. the foam on top alone was much different you can notice that without a microscope.

I noticed the worm tower legs standing in water. Ingenious!

I am asking about this one thing all around because I am new to composting and soil biology but I find it very fascinating. So, most people promote the aerated compost and compost tea method. Now there is this guy from Korea that is the Master CHo of Korean Natural Farming. He says soil conditions are anerobic anyways and aerating would be nonsense because those microorganisms would die off quickly once applied. He has his own type of brew with mashed potatoes.

This was awesome! How often are you using this on your garden crops? How close to harvest are you using the worm tea?

Few questions. First if you were to upsize this worm tea to an ibc tote how much worm castings would you need, how much molasses and would that aerator be sufficient for that size scale? Lastly what did you use to line those big totes? Thanks

Are you sure chloramine will evaporate from the water? It’s used because of how stable it is compared to chlorine.

I'm not a chemist so take this with a grain of salt, but my understanding is that with aeration and UV exposure (aka sunlight) even chloramine will break down. It does break down slower than chrorine, I think 2 or 3 days should do the trick though. Again, might want to fact check that because I haven't tried, I just use rainwater.

Our city water is reverse osmosis with added chlorine. I use an inline hose filter that removes the chlorine. Before my filter arrived, I was adding vitamin C powder to a large tub of water to remove the chlorine.
Just got some brew for compost tea and frasse, and now I need to find an aerator pump. I have read it is best to pump at least 45L/ minute. Any suggestions from anyone who can recommend an "affordable" setup is appreciated.

The little bubbler I use costs $10, and it's made many batches of tea over the past several years. That and a five gallon bucket and you should be good to go 👍

@@GoGreenCompost Thanks. Headed for Walmart! Maybe those guys who claim you need higher aeration are selling the more expensive models. Love that rainwater catchment system you have! We have a 110 gal limit here, unfortunately. But at least we can catch some... it used to be illegal here. I like that t-shirt filter system, too. Always learn something new here!

I'm not sure, additional air flow probably is better, and I'm far from an expert. But I've been making worm tea with that little bubbler for years and I feel like I've gotten good results, with no noticeable negative side effects.

Great video! How often would you suggest using the compost tea on your garden, and does it replace the need for any other fertilizers?
