I wonder why some disliked the video? I am a Health and Science professional and I study nutrition (MD and Ph.D.). Everything Frederique says is medically supported. LOVED THIS VIDEO. One can watch hundreds of good videos to get the same information. You did it in 16 min. Great content! Thank you. If people can follow that, they would stay fit and healthy. But, here is the catch, it's not easy if you were not raised that way or the food culture around you is not helping at all. Fats and sweets are so addictive...
Look a plant-based diet, low impact exercise (walk), hydration, short fasting, small portions, and mindful eating (sit down for food), one glass of wine (except for some diseases, ask your doc.) fast transit time for stool to minimize colon and rectal cancer, positive attitude absolutely supported by the medical community as a healthy lifestyle. Which is exactly what was told here with a French twist, of course, and so much more enjoyable than reading tons of medical literature.

Love this! We lived near Montpellier for six months and I lost weight while eating an almond croissant almost every day. So many things that Madame Bros says are true. We walked every day for at least an hour, exploring the garrigue near our house. At work, everyone stops working at noon and eats together. The lunch is leisurely and lasts until everyone is finished, and there is a lot of laughing and talking. No one eats at their desk alone, and no one snacks during the day. Even getting a coffee is a social thing, and it is strange to go and have a coffee on your own. For sure portions are smaller but the food is good and I was never hungry. I did wonder about the role that stress and the microbiome played in my weight loss. I felt much less stress, and the walks in nature were wonderful. Also, I think that my microbiome changed from eating the local cuisine & cheeses & breads. I definitely did not avoid carbs. I also wonder whether my weight loss was due to drinking mineral water. No one drinks from the tap there and everyone drinks bottled water. The tap water is safe, but culturally everyone drinks mineral water. I wonder if this also plays a role in weight loss. But really, I think the French approach food as a sacred social event. They take their time, they eat only good healthy seasonal food, and they make sure that it is enjoyed (but not in excess). I never saw a French person pass on dessert because they were watching their weight. I love that. I miss my time there. The French know how to live...

Amy Ramsey They don’t eat junk food or fast food or eat all day long like Americans do. They eat healthy whole foods. Junk food and fast food and soda are full of chemicals and empty calories. Many Americans have terrible eating habits, and eat huge portions, They are fat but their nutrition is terrible. That’s why there are so many cases of diabetes and cancer and heart disease. These are lifestyle diseases. It’s mostly the poor who eat this way because junk food is cheap. You rarely see a rich obese person here. They eat well and exercise and do the right things for their health.

Anyone struggling with a few extra COVID pounds - this is a MUST watch! This video taught me how to re-think my body as a whole system. A few of my epiphanies were: drink (mineral) water between meals (much of our food is deficient in minerals due to depleted soils); Winter = soups 2-3 xs per week Summer = salads galore; balance food intake over the course of a week; fasting gives your body time to HEAL (from inflammatory foods we eat - ie. meat and dairy); don't eat in front of the tv; be happy when you eat (not stressed - makes difference in how your body processed the food). This video is a cultural life-changer! Liked, subscribed and I hit the bell! Thank-you.

Take time to eat, is what I recall why, the food is chewed properly, the full feeling has time to develop, all that chewing and taking ones time allows for more stomach acid concentration, this allows to maintain a fast digestion and metabolism. Just that in itself let alone good music and socialization gives one good health, good energy levels.

Yes in America is believed that you should have to loosen your belt after a meal and is even a common practice among men. It's disgusting. as children were brought up to think that we should eat everything off of our plate before we can get up from the table even though the portions given to us were most likely an adult size. It comes from generations of not knowing anything about food and nutrition. Our parents and our country contribute heavily to the fatness.

I'm Canadian too, and I think that a large part of why we don't walk as much is due to the weather extremes. It's just not practical to walk 20-30 minutes each way for groceries when the weather is -15°C for the winter and +30°C in the summer, with rain in between. Plus if you have kids (I have 8) you can't carry it all. I suggest that you find a few workout styles that you enjoy and can do at home! I love to bike, but when the weather is crummy I do TRX workouts, dance workouts, lift weights and do bodyweight tabatas. I am an average size, but healthy. Cook your own food, exercise at home, and you'll feel like your best self again in very little time :)

Those were great tips! I grew up in Israel, where there is plenty of fresh fruits but we eat A LOT, But the food is high quality and fresh, and we cook with lots and lots of herbs. There is also every fruit and vegetable under the sun. I noticed that when I moved to Canada I gained so much weight so quickly, and I think it’s because the food is so modified, and way more processed. It took me a while to go back to cooking the way I grew up eating, and the weight fell off. I have to say that Saying no to wine and chocolate everyday is hard because I love wine and sweets, but that’s what we have to do. Also, I found that doing excercise daily really helps, even if it’s just 20 minutes of yoga. In the past I thought that I had to kill myself in the gym to see results, but now I understand the consistency is more important than overworking yourself, and then not wanting to work out again for another week. The same thing goes with food, being consistent is more important than eating lots and then doing a diet.

It’s just not impressed here like it is in other countries which also happen to be healthier and slimmer. I agree with everything you say!! Eating real food is so important and has always worked for me, I have never been overweight and I am 57. I am actually the same weight as I was in my 20's before my two sons were born. I also hate exercise but I do enjoy yoga and walking. I think exercise is like cleaning. You don't have to love it, but it has to get done.

In the US it really depends on the city, I think. The cities that evolved after the car became the major transportation mode, are spread out and its impossible to walk where you want to go. More congested cities are structured more for walking with small stores and farmers markets. Places with good weather allow people to get outside and bike or walk etc.

That was quite the experience and she talks fondly of it. They took her skying and taught her to dress for winter. She ate all the heavy versions of every food every day tho lol and gained weight. Cheese, cheese and more cheese.

I started with cutting out snacks and carbonated drinks , then i stopped eating while working or reading, I started eating fruits or small pieces of dark chocolate or nuts for dessert ,
I lost 15 kgs in 1 year and never put on again , and I feel really healthy , fresh active daily , I started working out because I need to stand for long times in my job , and it requires lot of stamina , now my work out time is like my meditation , relaxing , winding down routine.

This may not be the conventional way, but coming from a science background, I know that foods with higher fats is better than foods with higher sugar content. Higher fat foods will satiate your appetite and give your body more energy with smaller amounts; therefore, you only need to eat a smaller portion. On the other hand, low fat, yet high sugar foods will make you feel hungry shortly after ingestion. So, for example, I would order a small latte with whole milk and no sugar, instead of a nonfat milk latte with sugar.
It also comes down to eating in moderation, which I agree ☝🏻 that I should eat lightly for a day or two after a big evening feast.

AND agreeing with Sara W, everywhere I go I see folks drinking soda, constantly, as well as chips and complete meals as snacks! I also blame High Fructose Corn Syrup and sugar in everything. SO eat three healthy portion, low fat and low sugar meals daily with healthy snacks as needed. Avoid processed and additive laden foods, the closer to nature the better.

I grew up in the U.S. back un the 50s and early to mid 60s. I was raised as you described in your video. Mom factored fresh fruit and veggies into the budget and that was that. There was no junk food back then and she never would have included candy into the family budget. She also didn't bake so it was rare that we had baked items in the house unless it was a holiday or birthday. We had a salad with every meal and only oil and vinegar on it. We also ALWAYS sat down as a family to eat dinner and I still do that most of the time. My brother and I no longer have our partners so we made the decision to buy a house together. We have salad every other day for dinner. I still eat that way but my thyroid went insane about 10 years ago and it gave me fits with my weight. I gave up red meat years ago and now concentrate on fish and chicken or turkey. At 71 it's a battle but it would be worse if I'd been raised with American junk food or "fast food."

I’m sure everyone agrees that there are many factors and causes behind obesity, and if I look at my own country, Sweden, a lot is connected to level of education and socioeconomic strata, which shows up in life expectancy, habits like smoking and illnesses that to a greater extent are caused by obesity. I lived in France for a little while and I very quickly started eating a big salad before my main course and fell in love with that habit :-)

I get up extra early when I'm working just so that I can sit down and enjoy my breakfast, even if it's just for 10 minutes. I'm not a "grab a slice of toast as I dash out of the door" girl - no way! I think the Continental approach to food is definitely different, and so much better. The Spanish love to sit round the table with friends and family and really enjoy their food, instead of sitting in front of the TV with a takeaway like so many people here do. I'm not a gym person either, I do exercises at home from UA-cam, which is great because i can find ones that target the parts of the body I particularly need to work on. I won't make a list - I'll be here all night! 😀

I love cold ice water as well and drink tons of it but they suggest room temperature water alone or with lemon is better for the digestion. Its too bad I don't like water that way I always like it chilled find it more refreshing but yes water is the best advise for everything weight, skin, if your tired for energy or sick. Water is magic and its FREE. No Gimmicks!

Many are motivated by going out and showing off their nice figure...often we don't reward ourselves enough with planned nice outings or a new book/sm gift for having kept a good regimen. Many eat as their reward instead which leads to weight gain.

Yes, but showing off nice figure sounds bit narcissistic and constant regime is not mentally healthy… It’s about health not only look…

"We're not wonder women.. we're just smarter." Ha ha ha! I laughed so hard at this! You're so cute. And you're right. LOL. Definitely smarter about eating than we are in America! I loved this video. Thank you so much for sharing this information!!

I eat pretty well most days - examples... coffee w cream in morning... hard boiled egg, some peanuts, a fruit for lunch... dinner chicken, w a vegetable. Try to stay away from carbs and stick to small portions. My problem is my sugar cravings- choc chip ice cream/hot fudge, muffin/cake are my favorites:)

What a beautiful video. I’ve gone on fact finding mission by watching documentaries and reading medical publications and speaking to a dietitian. Everything mention in this video is supported by medical processionals. Unfortunately in the US the food industry is focused on the bottom dollar with flooding its citizens with fast food, processed foods, GMOs. factory raised antibiotic laden animals and a host of other unhealthy additives. It’s hard not to not be affected my the commercialization of our food here in the US. Thank you so much for this video.

Food is the same everywhere. Even in farmers markets the food on offer is mostly GMO. If a farmer in the 1800s saved the seeds of a better plant and then spliced into another with other good qualities it is then a GMO plant.
People need to eat fresh good food cooked at home.

Just found her. She is fabulous! Honest and everything makes sense. I agree about processed foods and portion control. Here in America; (where I was born and raised; my mother is from Sweden and my father is American) the portions are "too" much and alot is crap food. We are a sick and obesed nation. It is time to take back our health! Good food. Smaller portions and a mindset of what food is suppose to be for our bodies. Nourishment. Of course we should enjoy but with restraint. Very good video. 🥰

You do have the best cuisine, I agree, and this is cultural, something you just do, don't learn. I can think of other countries, who also have these traditions and attitudes to food and home-cooking. The BEST diet - REAL food. Do not overeat, do not snack and sit down for meals.

Greetings from the Sandhills of NC, USA! I read the book ‘French Women Don’t Get Fat’ when it first came out, and began to think differently about health, food and eating in general. These videos are a great reminder to stay on track. Thank you! Happy August 2020! Shalom! #Health #Food #Eating
