I love this series. Extreme Home Makeover may give you the feels and the amazing transformation, but Holmes on Homes gives you the know how and reasons why things must be done the way they are written to code and above, and to have some passive learning on what to look for and hopefully not get hoodwinked.
Shows like this really increased my appreciation for truly skilled trades people. In the years since first seeing this series, I've been much more careful about hiring trades people, and much happier paying more for their good work and better products. The series isn't just about despising the jerks, but also about valuing the real pros.
To Mike Holmes like how you Sir are a Very Professional Contractor and Also know what you are Doing! Appreciate how much attention you Pay to Details Thank You!
It’s scary and so disappointing how many dishonest people in business out there to take what they can from vulnerable people. Thank goodness there are still some people like Mike Holmes & his crew who do their best to help people .
I remember watching this episode on the television many years ago. The work this team does is incredible. I wish they would rerun the series on the television.
I love what you and your crew do. I wish I could talk or email you. I'm homeless and temporarily staying with my old son and his grandma on dad side. I stay in the basement that her daughter said she fixed. She didn't fixed it there is still water coming in. My son would love to have it fix the right way. He is a good man to be his grandmother caregiver and he works part-time for Jewel osco store. I have a lot of health problems myself and now he is my health care person that take me to doctor appointment. Not happy about what is happening in this house at all. Not sure how to help him and his grandmother.
Only thing I would've done different... is the Memory Sign in the back yard. 31:02 Instead of putting a screw through the middle so it sticks out, I would screwed a piece of wood on the post, and then glued the sign onto that and clamp it, so that all you see are the words... "In Memory Of..."
Until Mike and crew arrived the only person who entered the house with honest intent was the Raccoon! Hope the insurance company blacklist that contractor.
IF MIKE HAD NOT COME AND REDEW THE WHOLE HOUSE IT REALLY SHOWED ALL THE EXSTREAM TERRIBLE JOB COVERING SO MANY BAD ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING AND HOW BAD THE STRUCTURE WAS
Surprisingly bad considering how nice everything else is. Presumaly to save time and money. In another episode, he did something similarly bad with a fireplace in the center of a kitchen. Instead of redoing the entire thing, he vented the range up the side of it. The owners didn't look overly happy about it. Sure, it was safe and to code, but was lacking in aesthetics. This Old House tends to be more upscale, but that's because the homeowners are often rich and covering much of the cost themselves. Holmes seeks to help more regular income people truly in need. That involves tradeoffs, such as the fireplace.
i guess you speed it up in most of the parts to help keep from getting flagged?? this really stinks when people do this, makes it hard to understand what they are saying at times and just looks bad, not to mention the cropping. this also looks like a 3rd or 4th gen vhs coppy the quality is so low.
Much as I like the show, Mike does this rapid fire info dump on a lot of people who don't know what half of it means. Might make him look knowledgeable, but that kind of techno babble can put people, (and I mean audience), off.
I admire a great deal about MH, but not his sense of design and architecture. He always used generic "builder" aesthetics. Here, he removed some beautiful Edwardian or Arts and Crafts details (e.g., trimwork, newel post) and replaced it with a generic mish-mash of country and contemporary. It's cheap and fast, and it fits the aesthetic of modern, cookie-cutter consumerism and suburban tract homes--no personality, no sense of history.
YES ! Like in part 1 he salvaged the original doors and trims but for 'some people who like these things" as where I thought : "he stop that ! It belongs to this old house !!!".

Awesome job! Very well done ❤❤❤
Amazing work! Looks so fantastic!
Absolutely Gorgeous 😍
@8:10: Oh, that's perfect. That has to be the best line in this episode. :)
Normal people could never have been able to afford this amount of work
Those people had better be on their “A game” working for him! ❤😊

Cool!!
Yeah, good drywallers are worth every penny.
How did the insurance Co., like your interferance?
❤
have any of the bad or corrupt builders/contractors ever prosecuted?
Why speed this up-makes the whole thing hard to watch
Set playback speed to -0.75% and it’s perfect
Until Mike and crew arrived the only person who entered the house with honest intent was the Raccoon!
Hope the insurance company blacklist that contractor.
Too bad this video had to slowed down to 0.75 speed to listen properly.
Thanks for the tip. :->
atta boy
Never use the insurance company's contractor referal system
Really a drill rig?
would have been cheaper to tear the house down and build a new one
WHY DID THEY SPEED UP THE EPISODE S
YOU CAN HERE IN THERE VOICES
I REALLY HATE THAT THEY DID IT
IF MIKE HAD NOT COME AND REDEW THE WHOLE HOUSE
IT REALLY SHOWED ALL THE EXSTREAM TERRIBLE JOB COVERING SO MANY BAD ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING AND HOW BAD THE STRUCTURE WAS
Wow, that electric fireplace was awful.

Part 2 should be close on the heals of part 1. I don't even remember seeing part 1. Get a new editor.
