The ITG Commissions Committee has been and continues to be focused on equity and in-clusion, as well as on diversifying the repertoire for trumpet with works of the highest artistic quality. After researching the most notable Indigenous American composers/artists, the committee found a number of excellent options and selected R. Carlos Nakai to create a work for trumpet and fixed media (both audio and visual). His passion and desire to "communicate a sense of Native American culture and society that transcends the common stereotypes presented in mass media" were of great interest for this specific commission.
