My cat loves scratching on cardboard, but she completely ignores the petfusion cardboard scratcher. I think its the shape she dosen't like. My cat is like Forest. She like the flat cardboard scratcher thats less durable.
🤣🤣 sry I'm 6 months late but yeah my cat LOVES to mess with my shoes (whatever I just took off my feet) sometimes they are $600 shoes and I freak out sometimes I don't give a shit at all. Maybe for training purposes I should stop her from messing with all shoes even if I don't care
According to my cat, the top 5 are: 1. My gym floor mats 2. My foam kitchen mats 3. My hall runners 4. My bedroom rug 5. His big carpeted scratching post
I know this is an old vid. I watched a video in another well known cat dad. My cats wouldn’t use a lot of these things and he taught me a few tricks. First put all near YOU and areas around where you spend time like the couch. I’ve done this and amazingly they love all their scratchers. I was shocked. It works.
My cats love to sit and nap on the flat cardboard "scratchers". They don't scratch them much, but do spend a lot of time sitting on them, so we have several scattered around the house for them. They prefer to scratch sisal and carpet surfaces...and of course furniture fabrics and wood.
Maybe they just like fabric more than the "rope" on the scratchers? You can get another scratcher for them made of fabric, perhaps? 😆 Edit: Ah, yes. No my cat doesn't like CARDBOARD either. I just use rope-types.
Oh goodie, I accidentally bought the number 1 pick--except mine has the base and top plate covered with a plush material. The cats love to sit on top of the top. When one starts scratching on it, the other runs over and scratches too. They don't use it a ton, but they also have three cat trees of different heights that are covered with sisel rope--which they tend to use more often. They also have the flat box type scratcher that they use from time to time. Great review! Thank you.
My cat loves the petfusion scratcher lounge to use it as a regular scratcher and to also lay down. I think the shape makes it a lot more comfortable for them too! 😊
I have a one similar to the third one, and my cats looooved it. In fact, I wanted to make a long pole so, seeing the success of that scratcher, I bought another one, stuck them together and secured it to a handmade cat tree I have. Now my cats climb up to 2 m and I'm so happy to see them do that!🥰
My large cat LOVES the tall post! It took him a little bit to realize he could stretch out past the dark band in the middle, but with some encouragement and catnip, now he stretches out all the way, and my little cats love to climb it and sit on the top (just make sure you don’t put it beside all your potted plants 🤦🏼)
My cat likes the cheaper one and it makes the biggest mess 🤦🏻♀️. She's 16 yrs old and is a sweetheart. She actually minds better than my dog. I don't mind cleaning up the cardboard pieces as long as she is happy.
I’ve had the first post shown since my girls were babies almost 5 years ago and I’m just replacing it now! They love to reach up and streeeetch and I think the longevity of it really makes it worth the price 😊
My cat has the PetFusion ultimate cat scratcher lounge and the jumbo version, he just loves them, they get scratched a lot and he also loves laying on them and playing around them. I actually made my cat some cardboard scratchers first, similar to your budget version, he used them a lot so I then decided to invest in the bigger PetFusion ones.
I bought two SmartCat Ultimate scratching posts when I bought my new couch set a few years ago. My cat automatically goes to the posts everytime he passes by them, leaving my couch and love seat untouched. Best cat-related product I have ever purchased by far!
We have the pet fusion cardboard scratcher and three adult male kitties that use it multiple times per day. It usually lasts us 6-9 months flipping it over from time to time to get equal wear. They love to lounge on it too and look out the window or sleep in the sun. One thing we do is when it’s ready for the trash pile, we cut it in half with a handsaw (not hard but ask hubby to do it) and now we get to use the inside. Seems such a waste to design it that way and not figure out how to get more from it. We put the cut halves in other areas of the house. If there is a negative, it’s the amount of mess the flaked off pieces of cardboard create. Will check out a vertical scratcher from your list here. The one with a perch looks like a winner! Thanks for your informative videos, Mallory.
Yes I plan to cut it open too when the outside is more worn, I have also bought the PetFusion Jumbo cat scratcher lounge, that one is a bit bigger with the inside open so they can sit and scratch inside too, so you may want to consider that one next, my cat loves it.
@@Aw_tig We also own the Pet Fusion jumbo lounge and my 5 furbabies love to sit on the top and tease the cat that is sitting inside/underneath. Just found a Siberian breeder willing to send a hair sample!! Great info!! I love your reviews!! ❤️
Best part about the petfusion is you can cut it open and then use the insides. My cats love that thing, just give them time. Also the catnip in all these products is really not very good so Id recommend buying(or growing) some good quality catnip to lure them in.
I have the Midwest tall scratcher and it is a huge hit at my house. We've had it for almost 2 years and it's still holding up really really well. Even when they are running around hyper and jump on it. Never falls over. They also like to perch at the top!

I have two of the SmartCat Ultimate scratchers. They’re five years old and still in excellent condition, even with four cats. The only con is the optional padded topper you can buy for it. It uses plastic tabs to stay in place, and they’re laughably weak.
My Grandson asked if he could have my cat scratcher/ lounge ( cost $75 4 yrs ago), since my guy rarely used it; I said Yes, of course > now I'm on the hunt for a replacement in a different living situation that has No outdoor spaces for my cat ( And it's COLD out there!!) Thank you, Mallory!
We got the Midwest Grand Forte for our two boys. Our one boy always seemed to hit the platforms on the undersides of our cat trees, like he really wanted to go higher but couldn't. He LOVES stretching as high as he possibly can on the Midwest. We put it next to the leather chair they really liked scratching, and new damage has nearly stopped. I can see how it would very much depend on how your cats personality is. For our big boy who loves to stretch up, it was perfect. Our other boy loves chasing toys up the side, and he's definitely gone hard at it and I've NEVER been worried about it tipping on him, and he's 15 pounds right now.
The PetFusion lounger is great! We’ve had ours for at least two years and will probably have it for at least two more, since my cats have a number of other scratchers in rotation. This one is a consistent favorite though!
I guess some of this personal taste and what your cat likes. I have the Pioneer Pet SmartCat Ultimate Cat Scratcher in grey and I LOVE IT and so does my cat. In the grey the sisal fabric is also grey. He went to it right away no catnip needed. I've had it for 2 months and it still looks brand new like he's never used it when it fact he uses multiple times a day. It's VERY easy to put together, just screw the base to the post. It is very sturdy and my cat climbs it daily and hangs off it and it doesn't move. My cat is not a small cat he's a 12lb. Ragdoll. You listed as a con that it wasn't aesthetically pleasing but I love the look, sleek and modern IMO. I do like the look of the grey much better than the white. The Midwest post is the one I find pretty ugly. The only improvement I would make to the Pioneer Pet Smartcat is to make the top platform bigger. My cat wants so bad to get up there and sit but it's a bit too small for him to get up on. You said a cat could sit on the top of the Midwest post but I find that hard to believe as it looks smaller than the top of the Pioneer Pet post. My cat loves the sisal fabric. His cat tree has several posts with the sisal rope and he never uses them for scratching. He actually gets off his tree and goes over to the Pioneer Pet Scratcher with the sisal fabric. I wanted something that didn't have any carpet like material on it as I didn't want him to get use to scratching anything that would make him want to scratch my carpets/furniture. I also got him at Christmas something similar to the FatCat BigMama Scratchy Box because they were doing a sale and got it for $2.50 so worth a try for that price. I got him a flat one and curved one. To my surprise he loves the flat one not only does he use it to scratch but he lays on it all the time as a bed in fact he scratches mostly when he wakes up after napping on it and stretches. It's been about a month and a half so far and it's held up pretty well to my surprise and I don't have pieces of cardboard all over the place either. He doesn't like the curved one as much we'll see if he uses it down the road. Like I said above my cat and I are both thrilled with the Pioneer Pet Smartcat Ultimate cat scratcher. Well worth the price and I believe it will last a long long time.

This is a very informative review!!!!! . Thank you for posting this, new friend here 😸😸😻. BTY we agree with your #1. Ours eventually showed a lot of wear over time at the top, so we took it apart, reversed the orientation, drilled in new guides for the screws and shazam like new!
I have the lounger and the sisal wrapped post. Both my cats scratch on the post and love to lounge on the lounger. My younger cat will also climb and jump on the post and scratch on the lounger. My older cat doesn't scratch the lounger at all and doesn't climb the post. I also have a scratcher pad thats flexible and super durable that both cats love to use. It has a softer sisal type of stuff but im not sure what it is exactly
I've bought 2 rope wrap vertical scratchers.....and my one male cat totally obliterated it in about a week...the ropes broke and came loose and now he doesn't care about it. Ok, I bought it at Wal-Mart for $22 .... he LIKES it but it doesn't last very long. I *DO* also offer the horizontal TURBO-scratcher...but he really loves the vertical ones I've noticed!
Of my cats and my moms cats, 3/6 adore the catit lounger (green one) over anything else, including other cardboard scratchers. In fact we had to buy another one for my mom because her boy was defending it from her other cat and wouldnt let her use it. My eldest has been working on 3 for about 6 months, only one is due for a change out. I'm looking for a good leather scratcher for my middle child who only goes after vinyls and soft leathers - which happens to be furniture. Also worth noting we put it flat side down or the weight will break the core and snap the middle
Do they like how high it is? You could put a scratcher up high near it so they see a similar spot. Also make sure if they like the back of it it’s a tall one but if they’re scratching the seat try a flat one :)
@@GeeklingNo1 its an old office chair so i don't really mind, and its a great scratching post cause he can stretch real high, depends on the mood though, he would sometimes scratch the seat or the back, very durable too, no damage after a year of use haha
I realize it's not a dedicated scratcher, but I think it should have been mentioned, is the Turbo Ball Scratcher .. Both of my cats have used these for years..
there are people selling the #1 and #2 scratchers on Offerup and Facebook marketplace in my area and I'm considering buying one of those. I think from people who bought them and their cats felt the same way as Wessie and Forest :)
When the corrugated cardboard scratchers first became available in different configurations, including little houses, I tried it and decided it wasn’t for me. Although I realize the companies are doing what I’m not, which is do adhere cardboard side by side, to create these items, I felt the cost was too much for cardboard and, worse than that, was all the vacuuming. Like I’d have to be content with buying a cardboard scratcher AND a bot vac, that automatically cleaned up the mess made by these. What I am working towards and do know that I have to do, is to buy the right sisal scratchers though. My male cat enjoys the curved one that has been long offered by Target and I still have 2 of the ones that were adhered to wood, which they no longer carry. I also have a sisal tube that the cats can go into. But it’s only the male cat that uses the curved one and my female cats just used the carpeting, When she gets frustrated and I sometimes have to clip her nails as, she grows barbs that have probably pulled every thread in the house. So, I have to do better there. I didn’t know that cats feel most comfortable with the type of scratcher they started with but, hopefully, I can find something sisal, that they’ll both enjoy using.
Hello, Mallory - thank you so much for your videos! I am a new cat parent and your reviews and recommendations are so helpful. What is the spray you used on the first scratcher? My cat has not shown much interest in her current scratcher.
I have 2 of the first on your list, one that height and a shorter one by the same company. I also use the last one on your list, the big mama fat cat scratcher and my horizontal scratching cats love that one. The same company also makes one that's kind of ramp shaped/inclines that comes with some boingy upright cat toys you insert at the top. My cats love that one. If I recall correctly the scratching part is reversible but it's been a while since I bought one as am having to kind of cheap out while unemployed and they're about $16-$17.
Oh gosh my cat really likes this one kind of scratcher that is like a boat instead of a lounge but he only scratches the corners and then when the corners are gone he just sits in it on his back lol
If you haven't already done it either buy or build a cat wheel! (Just buy a one fast cat) I built a wheel from wood, and I bought a one fast cat years later for my sister's cats, it's a decent product and it cost less then building mine, and it's not heavy so if it falls for some reason which isn't likely it won't hurt the cat... also not being heavy helps a cat slow it down ....mine bail off the one inbuilt them when it gets going cause they can't stop it lol My cats kill carpet and twine scratchers in months...... card board would be tinny pieces all over the room and in my cats poop lol......if you have a Bengal or any other super active cat that maybe has some body weight and likes to scratch your going to just bleed through scratching posts and cat tree's just to keep the furniture safe lol
I have been considering a cat wheel, but not sure if my cat would use it, so this could be an interesting review to watch. I looked at a couple and they did seem heavy so thanks for the one fast cat suggestion I will take a look 👍
Gymax Cat Scratching Post Tall Activity Tree Cat Scratcher with Funny Toy Wine is the only one my 2 cats I have ever liked but sadly the one has been worn out from so much use and I have been unable to find another one of these to buy. The few places they stated having it are always out of stock = (
Awesome question, Sandra. There are many companies selling sisal rope in bulk. Some sell on Amazon, like this one: www.amazon.com/Yangbaga-Scratching-Replacement-Repairing-Recovering/dp/B075XGGBX
With scratchers, it takes time for a cat to accept and use. It can take a couple months so using your cats as testers isn't a good idea. My cats that I've had through out my life loved the first cat scratchers. I'm going to
Hi Judy, thanks for your comment. We're always looking for ways to make our reviews more helpful, so I'll have to think about ways to work more thorough testing into our publishing schedule. All the best to you and your cats!
We purchased the Pioneer Pet SmartCat Ultimate scratcher and our 3 cats wouldn't touch it lol....go figure! they seem to prefer carpet rather than other materials so it must just be personal preference for them, which could be due to the fact that when they were kittens that's all we bought were carpet scratchers. Our female cat does, however, use sisal rope scratchers, but the other 2 will not.
Lol, maybe she could take all the products to a cat rescue community room for a weekend and see what the rescue cats preferred? A partnership with a rescue to review products would be interesting.
My cat loves the flat cardboard ones. He really only uses his rope one for the streeeeeetchhhhhhhhh. Side note: I am so jealous of how good of a stretch my cat can get!
Love your channel and you Mallory! LOL 😻 the meat scratchers 😻, plus your kitties are TOO cute 🥰 Thank you kindly, and I bought the SmartCat Pioneer scratcher in gray❤️
And what do you get for a former feral that was used to scratching trees and the only thing she looooves scratching is my wooden deck banisters! *LOL* oh well.... she is the cutest when she goes to town tho.
I bought the pioneer and it is a tough item. Did you notice on the box picture that the bottom and top caps look like real wood (nice) which they aren't.
I moved in with my mom in July 2021who passed away in March 2022. While slowly transitioning my & my fur baby's live from my apartment to her house with her fur babies I brought along the "Cat It" lounger. The #FunkyFour love it. They've been using it for MONTHS. They love it 😻‼️I have only sprinkled the catnip on it that one/first time. I noticed the host seemed to have it upside down Our babies like to drop their paws 🐾 over the rises or use them like pillows. All 4 change shifts to use it. I had a 2nd one but gave it to my cousin todaybecause she has a couple of new fur babies so I'm waiting to hear their review 😹
So in your video about what foods cats can and cannot eat, your tabby cat used the cardboard scratcher that you first reviewed and said that you never saw your cat use it.

Forest is so cute scratching the cardboard :)
Agreed!
The way she destroys it with such gusto! Going at the same bit again and again until it’s hollowed out; is so adorable
Always love your videos!
So glad! Thanks for being here! :)
didn’t mean to be early but glad i am- great helpful videos!

Love cats....love your expertise and your knowledge of cats and love getting to look at such a beautiful lady while you divulge your knowledge of cats..Keep up the great work and again, you are B-E-A-utiful.
Least expensive……most used. Awesome. Sold!
My at only uses carpet scratching posts. Tall carpet scratching posts are hard to find
5:10 Lol that's cute
Who needs a scratching post when you have the real deal with a piece of drift wood sitting beside it.
Forest loves scratching her driftwood!
My cat loves my office chair
Thanks for mentioning that, Gary! I know it's a big hit with a lot of cats.
Useful!
Thanks for the great review!
Awesome. Looking for one now! ❤️
there are people selling the #1 and #2 scratchers on Offerup and Facebook marketplace in my area and I'm considering buying one of those. I think from people who bought them and their cats felt the same way as Wessie and Forest :)
Purchased cute cardboard scratchers at Marshall’s. Super cheap 😻 just subscribed 🧡🐾
Thank you for watching and subscribing, Cara!
What kind breed of cat is foster? Great videos with tons of great info!
Hi there! Forest is a domestic shorthair (moggy), and her coat seems to be somewhere between a classic and mackerel tabby pattern.
But it’s only the male cat that uses the curved one and my female cats just used the carpeting,
When she gets frustrated and I sometimes have to clip her nails as, she grows barbs that have probably pulled every thread in the house. So, I have to do better there.
I didn’t know that cats feel most comfortable with the type of scratcher they started with but, hopefully, I can find something sisal, that they’ll both enjoy using.
Fantastic content as always!
Can you also do the best for window seats/beds?
Hi there! We'll consider it. Thank you!
My cat likes leather chairs. He also uses cardboard scratchers. He’s something else.
Hello, Mallory - thank you so much for your videos! I am a new cat parent and your reviews and recommendations are so helpful. What is the spray you used on the first scratcher? My cat has not shown much interest in her current scratcher.
It's catnip spray! I recommend Meowijuana's spray!
If I recall correctly the scratching part is reversible but it's been a while since I bought one as am having to kind of cheap out while unemployed and they're about $16-$17.
they do like hifi speakers grilles , the ultimate clothe
Oh gosh my cat really likes this one kind of scratcher that is like a boat instead of a lounge but he only scratches the corners and then when the corners are gone he just sits in it on his back lol
If you haven't already done it either buy or build a cat wheel! (Just buy a one fast cat) I built a wheel from wood, and I bought a one fast cat years later for my sister's cats, it's a decent product and it cost less then building mine, and it's not heavy so if it falls for some reason which isn't likely it won't hurt the cat... also not being heavy helps a cat slow it down ....mine bail off the one inbuilt them when it gets going cause they can't stop it lol
My cats kill carpet and twine scratchers in months...... card board would be tinny pieces all over the room and in my cats poop lol......if you have a Bengal or any other super active cat that maybe has some body weight and likes to scratch your going to just bleed through scratching posts and cat tree's just to keep the furniture safe lol
I have been considering a cat wheel, but not sure if my cat would use it, so this could be an interesting review to watch. I looked at a couple and they did seem heavy so thanks for the one fast cat suggestion I will take a look 👍
1:03 might be the single best moment in All About Cats' history. Im fucking DECEASED.
Gymax Cat Scratching Post Tall Activity Tree Cat Scratcher with Funny Toy Wine is the only one my 2 cats I have ever liked but sadly the one has been worn out from so much use and I have been unable to find another one of these to buy. The few places they stated having it are always out of stock = (
😺rawr!!!
Love Forrest
One tip for cat owners. Make your own and save lots of money. I've made several and my cat loves them.
Where can I purchase Sisal Rope?I have a post I would like to recycle,BTW Thanks for sharing.

Omg can you please do a video of testing dollar tree cat products like treats, toys, bowls and stuff
Hi Jazmin, great idea! We'll consider it. Thank you for your suggestion!
What did you spray on the post? Trying to offer my car alternatives other then rug or couch
This channel is killing me lol
"Overall best item, my kitten never used it"
Nearly every. single. video.
Lol, maybe she could take all the products to a cat rescue community room for a weekend and see what the rescue cats preferred? A partnership with a rescue to review products would be interesting.
@@hnskinner
Great idea!
Thats cats for you, since theres always ones who you cant satisfy
That's amazing your cat used the horizontal one
My cat loves the flat cardboard ones. He really only uses his rope one for the streeeeeetchhhhhhhhh.
Side note: I am so jealous of how good of a stretch my cat can get!
Love your channel and you Mallory! LOL 😻 the meat scratchers 😻, plus your kitties are TOO cute 🥰 Thank you kindly, and I bought the SmartCat Pioneer scratcher in gray❤️
Never underestimate the power of a pizza box!
If anyone liked the Catit Scratcher Lounge its $5.88 right now! Bought it as soon as I saw that price
I noticed the host seemed to have it upside down
Our babies like to drop their paws 🐾 over the rises or use them like pillows.
Yes! She finally took an interest. 🙂
I have 2 cats that only like carpets and I have 2 sisal they are never used. I have tried catnip but that does not really peak their interest.
I already have a cat scratcher. It doubles as my couch.
Does anyone know what spray is used at around the 1:57 mark?
That is catnip spray!
Modcat has come out with scratchers - I wonder how this fare?
