right. and the producer broke down the car scene at the end where the real black community has a lack of progress/old cars juxtaposed against music videos showing flashy rides
If you're wondering about empty cars maybe you should look up these names: Philando Castile, Walter Scott, Sandra Bland, Terence Crutcher, Samuel DuBose, Kisha Michael & Marquintan Sandlin, and Timothy Russell & Melissa Williams.
Ohhhhh, I hadn't thought of that, thank you for sharing it. I had been thinking that it was a reference to the car factories that had all closed down in many cities up north, and how it had devastated the economies in those areas. I feel like yours could be an equally valid (if not more so) interpretation. Maybe it's a little bit of both.
Nah. The NRA was informed of the impending zombie apocalypse. That's why they won't regulate mental health customers. Everyone sounds crazy when purchasing rifles to fend off half dead neighbors
Lol. I think the term is "fetishizing" but I can agree with that sentiment. I'm for safe, responsible gun ownership and I enjoy reading up on various types of weapons, but at a certain point you find this weird place where folks obsess over guns and being "tacti-cool." They're like sneaker-heads, but with a deadly weapon.
Thank you for pointing that out. I had thought it was a reference to the areas where big car factories had moved out and left the local economies in ruins. It might be a little bit of both; a single symbol can evoke a lot of references.
no they aren't, Philando Castile was driving a 1997 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight LS, Walter Scott was a 1991 Mercedes, Sandra Bland was a 2008 Honda Accord, Terence Crutcher was a 2003 Lincoln Navigator, Samuel DuBose was a 1997 Honda Civic LX, Kisha Michael & Marquintan Sandlin were in a 2008 BMW 328i, Timothy Russell & Melissa Williams were in a 1979 Chevrolet Malibu, none of which are in the video
Remember when he dances on the car. Did you notice that the cars were older models. Did you notice the guy to right of the screen, way after SZA, he had a water bottle. This was in reference to Flint, Michigan. The water crisis, lead infested water. Michigan was also the motor capital of the USA. Its really quick to catch the guy, this is right before the screen goes black and before the running scene.
Damn. And it's strange because I have been following what's been happening in flint over the past 3 years, yet I missed this reference. Thank you for pointing it out to us!
A lot of this video was also the stance he had in the beginning scene like the Jim Crow character. The dancing was a symbol of minstrel shows like Hey you love Black culture and music but don't care about the violence going on with the police or in our neighborhoods. That guns are better treated than Blacks or POC who have been shot by the person using the gun. Also that violence is happening and we still go back to our normal lives. His pants were reminiscent of confederate uniform pants and the chains on him represented bondage/slavery.
yeah our "producer" filled us in with this info after we watched it but it didnt make it to the final cut of the video (too long) i didnt catch the jim crow reference at all! but it's so much better than my analysis, so i hope thats what he intended
Well interpreted. I have been watching reaction videos to this music video and found that those outside of America are much quicker in picking up references while many Americans are focused primarily on the dancing, not so much what's happening around them. How ironic.
You should be able to wear what you want. I'm a Christian and I think hijabs can be completely gorgeous. You are gorgeous too by the way. Not creeping. Just saying. Great analysis. Keep it up you guys. Peace.
they were dumb as shit kid!!! shit i'm white hate rap and i got this all black reactors don't even get shit wow....but the school kids not 60's it's african school kids and the dance too was african dance! too ironically he insults every black too acting dumb on internet killin each other too he was wearing confederate pants! IN FACT HE IS AMERICA in the fucking video...all very obvious!!
I am not sure what you are trying to say here because your grammar is fucking terrible. Donald Glover has refused to answer questions about what his intentions were and specifically left it up to the viewer to decide which means that your interpretation can be valid but so is everybody else's. It is not very obvious but you seem to be closed to ideas that are not your own so maybe you can only see things one way
You have to watch it more than once to get it. The cars is a '97 Oldsmobile which is Philando Castile's car who was murdered by the police. I suspect all of the cars are similar cases. Notice they all have the emergency flashers on and the front driver’s door open. The17 second pause is in reference to the latest school shooting in Florida. the fact that he lights up afterwards is tied to the massive school walkouts, which were on 4/20. I also feel the first 2 murders he was portraying white people. 1. cause of the Jim crow pose and 2. cause that was literally done by a white supremacist to the church people. (Childish is representing America) The dancing to me is used as a distraction for the chaos in the background. The red cloth could also be in reference to the Republican Party in the USA; who put more value to guns than the destruction it causes. The end where he was pointing his finger is saying that the black man is still considered dangerous and gets killed without a gun
I think it's just SO MUCH for people to take in all at once, that it's a bit overwhelming. It is an amazing video, and it requires multiple viewings to catch even half of what's going on.
Great reaction and dialogue (I just subscribed). This video was bold, revolutionary, dark, sad, yet inspiring. A great social tool for as a conversation starter. I think what Childish Gambino portrayed here is pure genius... Anyways, amazing reaction (the two of you make a great team, hopefully you two keep it going as a dual), and I look forward to many more peace.
When I first watched it, I interpreted the gun going into a cloth as someone whisking it away to be cleaned of fingerprints and gun powder residue so it would be free of external evidence and clean for the next use.
it was very refreshing to see such a smart analysis, I especially loved how she paid attention to the details of the video - the cars part totally blew my brain away because how attentive that was - good video, I especially loved how intelligent she was! great way of starting the conversation :)
Great interpretation of the video. My interpretation of the cars references a new form of lynching. In the frame when he stops dancing and the camera pans out, the lines on the back wall looks like a rope.
I hadn't noticed that bit about the lines on the back wall, thanks for pointing it out. I did notice that his dancing on top of the car looked like an artistic rendering of someone jerking around at the end of a rope, and then he just stops moving. :/
All these people saying Donald Glover is fat or an"dad-bod." REALLY cements unrealistic expectations for us Americans...dude is fit as hell to our standards, so now I feel awful about myself lol..great reaction though! You guys definitely caught onto a lot of the themes:)...
Haha, Yeah, I think he looks to be in awesome shape, as well. And he's obviously very physically fit to be able to do that much dancing and running around for such long continuous takes.
I agree. I was into those overly muscular guys when I was in high school and realized that they were short, worked out way too much (as they were often football players) and got fat as soon as they stopped working out all the time. Nope. Glover looks great to me.
thank you so much for understanding! but also we had the captions on (we're really used to watching things with subtitles and still paying attention to the actual footage hahah)
As far as the gun part goes It's pretty simple (and I love the term she used The Sexification of Guns by the way), the scene showed that guns are given more value than human life itself as the gun was handled with care and placed in the red republican party color cloth both times. This is America where civilians overwhelmingly own more guns than any other country in the world and no other country is even close.
And with it being taken away in a cloth, it can now be wiped free of finger prints and gun powder residue, and be nice and clean for the next time it's used.
What I noticed at the end scene where Danny Glover is running scared is that the people running behind him are running with their arms down and not moving. It had a robot kind of feel to it.
She is absolutely brilliant. I don’t understand how she’s catching so much of this the first time she’s watching it. The guy is a typical self-absorbed child who made this complicated video about himself (and his body?).
What... she should be in every video... I just watched a bunch of these reaction videos and I really enjoyed her point of view..."Why can't every woman be like Iman ?"
The cars can also be seen as referencing the auto industry moving out and leaving the local (now predominantly black) communities to struggle. For those of you pointing out the LA Riots, don't forget that Detroit has also had a few notable riots, in addition to having once been a giant in the world of auto manufacturing.
Is it weird that when I heard you guys talk I was like "this isn't a Pakistani reaction, they're American!". Lol, I thought this video reached Pakistan. Prolly has, but still
The scene with the cars represents to me America's fascination with older cars meaning no time moving forward...also with some people's thoughts and you see what comes along with with thought process😯to
I think the chase scene means as a society we are all scared of different people....I see a black girl, a doctor, a cop, white peopleetc etc...meaning as americans we are scared of someone
Thank you so much! That's really sweet of you to say, this is my channel, but i havent uploaded anything yet :) heads up though, when i do, its all about books lol i also have an instagram with the same handle
You're the only reacters that noticed the clothes. If you look at the uniformed kids against the chaos in the background are a nod to blacks still fighting for rights since the 60s.
Some people refuse to see the distractions that countries like America dangle in front of them, they try to wade through the crap to see what is really happening, to make up their own mind and not have their mind made up for them by the media. This lady is one of them, great reaction.
The whole time watching this video I thought it was really mean that he didn't give her at least one side of the headset to listen to the music. Thought maybe it was a power thing with men and women in that culture. Then at the end I saw she had her own and made me feel very dumb. Of course she had headphones on lol.
I live the take on the cars and their symbolism. I think a lot of people didn't get it. The lady is very woke when it comes to not just looking at the stuff that is in front of you look at the surrounding area too.
VIEW POINT: when the White horse (Death) ran by.. The reason he was still and quiet while everyone ran was because everybody died, including him, stuck in the last pose he was in... Which is why you hear the screaming in the background and the shooting.. When he quietly pulled out the blunt (called a Whiteboy back in the days), it was actually his soul leaving his body, which is why when he walk to the car, the dead person who was shot was still playing the guitar, the chaos in the back stop, and his soul continue to dance.. The woman on the car (Sza) was actually mortal, she was the queen of life (she births the living) its why her hair flowed, and the top of her hair was formed as a crown .. because she can see life and death, AKA spirits.. Also most of the things you see is tooken from africa.. the uniforms, the dancing, the kids, the music in the beginning.. Because Africans govenment is going through the same thing we are going through.. Theres a LOT of messages in this video you cant see.. And if you're not up to date with whats going on in America AND Africa.. then theres alot of things you'll miss.. P.S. Anyone notice the White Chicken looking 1 way and Brown chicken looking the other?? The White guy getting thrown over the balcony? The Jim Crow "black" facial expressions in the beginning (that you probably laughed at)? The slave field pants? The fact he had 2, but couldnt afford a shirt? Nappy hair? The people with cells on their hand recording, but didn't say anything because their mouth was covered by a white rag? The way the guns was handled? That's how you know this video also connect with Africa... when you see the part where he shoots up the church (which happened in america) the he used was a AK-47.. which is majority used... In Africaaaa... hints why he said " this is Guerrilla War".. Steady yet, thats just a few things in this video some noticed and some didnt
I'm really proud of you and I'm extremely glad that you tried you have earned an A plus for effort. Your commentary does show that you have some called cultural awareness, it does show that you may have watched or glimpsed a few traditional hip hop videos but this video has nothing to do with sex the only person that you may consider sexy is that man that has shirt is off and he seems more crazy than sexy so I'm not sure if you were analyzing this video or you were just going off your memory. There's a lot of things going on here, you're going to need to analyze this in a historical context so you have to get some historical foreground. It's just too much going on in the video is almost chaotic in an artistic way I'm strapped for time of course but I'll just give you a few points that I caught. This video is a prime example of your think outside the box video it is the opposite of the traditional black Hip Hop videos that you're used to seing. In fact it has had nothing to do with a naked woman or sex. If you look at his eyes he looks crazy his facial expression seemed erratic so instead of feeling sexy I felt scared like who is this crazy guy? Then notice the gun tragedy, did you feel shocked or did you feel sexy. I was alarmed, and it felt out of place. The next emotion was, " What, what was that for what's going on why? It forced my mind into question mode. Because the videos intention is to reveal - a revelation NOT glorification. Where are they, are they in the black community?NO!!They are in a wharehouse, which symbolizes anywhere. Is gun violence only limited to black community or is it happening in Florida in schools with all the recent school shootings or is it happening in churches with the recent violence at the Charleston Church it can happen anywhere on your way to the gym at your workplace just driving home on your way to see your mother. Evaluate that. Even more so go back and check your recent news articles what is going on with guns right now what is going on have you seen any alarming tragic situations whether you agree with how they died or not and does it cause you to think about what's going on or question what's going on? Let's stretch the conversation a little bit. . No matter what chances are you or your ancestors came here for freedom and for safety ask yourself this do you feel safe and free or is it an illusion?
Forgive my off topic, but I've never seen a more beautiful woman in my lifetime. The way you speak and express your mind is very refreshing. Please make more appearances 😍
Man, she caught the guns treated better than the bodies right away. That took me three watches.
they saw the video before
right. and the producer broke down the car scene at the end where the real black community has a lack of progress/old cars juxtaposed against music videos showing flashy rides
@@ti7ano515or their just smarter than you🤔
If you're wondering about empty cars maybe you should look up these names: Philando Castile, Walter Scott, Sandra Bland, Terence Crutcher, Samuel DuBose, Kisha Michael & Marquintan Sandlin, and Timothy Russell & Melissa Williams.
Holy shit! It's amazing that you know that!!
facts!
Ah! I see! Thank you for the enlightenment!
Ohhhhh, I hadn't thought of that, thank you for sharing it. I feel like yours could be an equally valid (if not more so) interpretation. Maybe it's a little bit of both.
zulubro what?I don't get it
She actually said something I hadn't thought about. The sexification of guns
I, too, had never thought about it like that.
Nah. The NRA was informed of the impending zombie apocalypse. That's why they won't regulate mental health customers. Everyone sounds crazy when purchasing rifles to fend off half dead neighbors
You are right. I am totally for guns but people are literally obsessed with guns now in my opinion.
Lol. I think the term is "fetishizing" but I can agree with that sentiment. I'm for safe, responsible gun ownership and I enjoy reading up on various types of weapons, but at a certain point you find this weird place where folks obsess over guns and being "tacti-cool." hahaha thanks for that word, our producer said afterwards "glorification iman, the word is glorification." either of those works tbh haha
I love how she brought out the way he says "This is America." Like this the normal. Also he says it after the killing.
SHE IS REALLY IMPRESSIVE WOW
back off she's mine heheheheh
The cars in the video = the same make/model of cars owned by black people who were murdered by cops.
Wow. Thank you for letting us know. It's insane the amount of details that went into this video.
Damn that hurts my heart😢
Thank you for pointing that out. I had thought it was a reference to the areas where big car factories had moved out and left the local economies in ruins. It might be a little bit of both; a single symbol can evoke a lot of references.

What do you mean Missouri? Flint is in Michigan.
Wow...thanks about input on the car bit. That was part of video I wasn't really clear about what to think. Thanks for sharing your perspective ;)
The world dont give a damn about general motors. You just brainwashed.
At 3:34 I seen him
A lot of this video was also the stance he had in the beginning scene like the Jim Crow character. Revelation 6:8 "Then I looked and saw a pale horse. Its rider’s name was Death, and hell followed close behind"...in this case, the cops
I've seen over 100 reactions, She might be the only one I've seen actually listen to the words at the very end. Good Stuff
thank you so much ! I'm a lit major so words are a big thing for me and im also familiar with donald glover's work, so i was really focused haha
She is gorgeous
thank you so much thats really nice of you to say
She looks and sounds like an American white woman in a hijab
Hijabs are mainly tied to religion not race, so she could be as you say.
Moist HandShake she is
Minoritea Books Ramadan Mubarak
You should be able to wear what you want. I'm a Christian and I think hijabs can be completely gorgeous. You are gorgeous too by the way. Not creeping. Just saying. Great analysis. Keep it up you guys. Peace.
Thank you for your thoughts, the world needs more people like you
OMG you are good. ' Look they are not from the same era...it's like 2 decades.' Time! This America- same over all these decades. thanks
Really good and smart analysis. I enjoyed watching this
they were dumb as shit kid!!! shit i'm white hate rap and i got this all black reactors don't even get shit wow....but the school kids not 60's it's african school kids and the dance too was african dance! too ironically he insults every black too acting dumb on internet killin each other too he was wearing confederate pants! oooooohhhhhh! that last bit with the finger post, i hadn't thought of that! it bothered me so much i really wanted to know what it was, good spot.
The first time I watched the video got chills in my bones... I was all tears when it ended. I don't know how people control their emotions.
I think it's just SO MUCH for people to take in all at once, that it's a bit overwhelming. It is an amazing video, and it requires multiple viewings to catch even half of what's going on.
a rider upon a pale horse and death was his name and hell followed with him
I watched about 20 reacts to this, and you guys are one of the best I've seen. You understood more than most!
She is smart and beautiful! She needs her own channel or at least show up on this channel frequently
You're really kind thank you! i do have my own (this one, but I havent posted yet) but it's mostly going to be about books (lol nerd sozm8)
those cars at the end all were from the 1980's That's Where Rodney king got beat up closed to death by the cops
The horse is a reference to death with hell following
I love love love how you dig deep into your reaction/analyzation of this song.
When she said work it work it😂🤣🤣😅😄
i cant help it i just love him
enjoyed your perspective... thanks for sharing😃.
I love the insight Inman offered. (Sorry if I misspelled). Good job guys
"Iman (means faith)" you were so close though! :)
I liked her point of view on it about the saying 'This is america' do what we want!
Thank yooouuuu :)
FRIDAY MAY 18, 2018 ACTIVE SHOOTER IN TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL....This IS America
Out of all the reaction videos I’ve seen so far you guys are the ones who noticed the most so far especially how they took the gun with care from him.
ah yes. finally. that english lit degree comes in handy.
When I first watched it, I interpreted the gun going into a cloth as someone whisking it away to be cleaned of fingerprints and gun powder residue so it would be free of external evidence and clean for the next use.
The kids were wearing 1960s clothing. Great observation.
great analysis by the woman. smart.
thank yooouuuu
it was very refreshing to see such a smart analysis, I especially loved how she paid attention to the details of the video - the cars part totally blew my brain away because how attentive that was - good video, I especially loved how intelligent she was! great way of starting the conversation :)
I actually love their mindset, their perspective
I’m very glad that this video gave people in every nation an opportunity to have a conversation about our world’s Problem Child, the U.S.
I Love Her TOO!!! Awesome video :)
Wow never seen ya’ll before but great reaction and take on the video guys =]
The school uniforms are just school uniforms and that scene of them dancing like childish gambino represents kids being followers....
Thanks for your thoughts on the subject matter, enjoyed your video!
Thank you for taking the time to watch, and for showing your appreciation :)
Ppl saying listen then comment, if you don’t talk over the video or pause it from time to time it’s copyright issue
thank you so much for understanding! but also we had the captions on (we're really used to watching things with subtitles and still paying attention to the actual footage hahah)
As far as the gun part goes It's pretty simple (and I love the term she used The Sexification of Guns by the way), the scene showed that guns are given more value than human life itself as the gun was handled with care and placed in the red republican party color cloth both times. And with it being taken away in a cloth, it can now be wiped free of finger prints and gun powder residue, and be nice and clean for the next time it's used.
I've watched a lot of reactions of this video - she is the first one that noticed them carefully carrying the guns away.
soo soo good, don't make us wait 6 months for another video Adiiiiiill!!
Mahid Ahmed It's because of fans like you that I want to be more consistent.
Are you the producer?
Ali Ilyas of course
how could you doubt
I enjoyed this video cause to each is own
I really enjoyed watching this video!
What I noticed at the end scene where Danny Glover is running scared is that the people running behind him are running with their arms down and not moving.
It had a robot kind of feel to it.
garyrich2000 Might have been a Predator chasing Danny Glover.
P Nizz no, they were people in lab coats, many of them.
garyrich2000 Wooooooooooosh
Donald Glover, haha!
garyrich2000 There we go. ;)
I need this as an "are you kidding me?!" Meme. 4:30 Girrrrl. Love it!!🤣
She is absolutely brilliant. I don’t understand how she’s catching so much of this the first time she’s watching it. The guy is a typical self-absorbed child who made this complicated video about himself (and his body?).
They missed the pale horse reference. In the Bible death rides the pale horse. Here the police ride with death in the ghetto.
I'm from Brazil and I watch you !
Eu sou do Brasil , e assisto vocês !
Great reaction.
I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him.
he's sleepy but handsome.
Y'all seen that black figure at 3:34 edit at the bottom right screen
Never seen it before now! Nice eye!
What... she should be in every video... I just watched a bunch of these reaction videos and I really enjoyed her point of view..."Why can't every woman be like Iman ?"
Dude you are so right about the body thing! Donald is the hero we need! Lol
haha I swear!
i wish i knew you guys in person. you guys seem so nice
why are you like this
You guys caught in to a lot very quickly. Many reactions take a while to notice the background. Good job!
Had to sub just for the name of your channel
Not sure but I think the cars might be a reference to Rodney king
Osvaldo Reyes I've been looking for this comment! Totally a "riots" reference
Yeah, some of the scenes were like the LA riots
I thought of the L.A. riots too but someone else commented that all the cars where same make and models of black ppl murdered by cops.
The cars in the video are the same cars owned by black people who were murdered by the police.
Prolly has, but still
Hooked on Chronics my entire point!
So you necessarily have to reside in Pakistan to be Pakistani? If l were Anemican doing a video in Pakistan would l not be American?
The scene with the cars represents to me America's fascination with older cars meaning no time moving forward...also with some people's thoughts and you see what comes along with with thought process😯to
I think it's about all the black man's cars that were stopped by the police. Most of them are old cars implying the poverty in these black communities
Saiful Izann you might be right about that but also check out the fact that those 🏎🚗🚘cars are the ones cops👮♂️ killed those black folks in
I think the chase scene means as a society we are all scared of different people....I see a black girl, a doctor, a cop, white peopleetc etc...meaning as americans we are scared of someone
Good point; I feel like Americans are either convinced violence can't happen in their community, or they fear it constantly.
"The sexification of guns." The word you're looking for is ammosexual. That's the word I use anyway.
is that a real word?!?! thats too accurate haha
It's not in the dictionary, but it's been tossed around in American conversations on our gun obsession quite a bit over the last few years.
Watch again and listen closely to the lyrics and piece them together
I like her. she's intelligent.
the horse and the man on it depicts death
It definitely does, although it also makes me think of the police horses used when riots break out.
Btw my daughters Imani. God is faithful
Deserves more subs
The first 5 seconds....l was like am l watching the Chapelle Show?!
Look at my producer with shit body... :D Sexification of Guns is so true. Good quick review of a complex theme.
Does she have a page I can follow she seems like a nice person
Thank you so much! That's really sweet of you to say, this is my channel, but i havent uploaded anything yet :) heads up though, when i do, its all about books lol i also have an instagram with the same handle
Minoritea Books ok cool... thank you for responding to my question... I will definitely follow you on IG and here... have a great day
of course!
You're the only reacters that noticed the clothes. If you look at the uniformed kids against the chaos in the background are a nod to blacks still fighting for rights since the 60s.
It's chill, I'm woke too. 😎
Some people refuse to see the distractions that countries like America dangle in front of them, they try to wade through the crap to see what is really happening, to make up their own mind and not have their mind made up for them by the media. This lady is one of them, great reaction.
You guys analysis was one of the best I’ve seen. Very good commentary on American culture . Where do you live? You work very well together.
The whole time watching this video I thought it was really mean that he didn't give her at least one side of the headset to listen to the music. Thought maybe it was a power thing with men and women in that culture. Then at the end I saw she had her own and made me feel very dumb. Of course she had headphones on lol.
hahahaha amazing! no no thats not dumb at all, but adils really sweet of course, i had headphones in you just couldnt see cause of the scarf haha :)
Glad to hear it. I enjoyed both of your reactions to the video.
A little sleepy? Hahaha!😂
I live the take on the cars and their symbolism. I think a lot of people didn't get it.
The lady is very woke when it comes to not just looking at the stuff that is in front of you look at the surrounding area too.
most schools in the 60s had uniforms or a strict dress code but now mostly religious schools have uniforms
You should get your friend to react to more videos. She is very observant and smart.
Great analysis. I subscribed. Sadly, I live in america.
Those old cars maybe means we’re going back to the civil rights era or Jim Crow era.
رمضان كريم 🕋🌙
Did you notice that when he was dancing and singing happily their were crimes being committed in the background?
It's like he's saying that entertainers are their to distract us from the the crimes being committed on a daily basis.
They clearly watched the explanation video😂😂
Nice video. 👍🙌😁
Behold the man on the pail horse for he is death
The old cars I believe represent the poverty that exists and persists in the US.
Zombie media running at the end
how is adil not a model yet.
stahp.
Let's stretch the conversation a little bit.
. No matter what chances are you or your ancestors came here for freedom and for safety ask yourself this do you feel safe and free or is it an illusion?
dead at his "ttohn"
Ali Ilyas haha true though, right?
Forgive my off topic, but I've never seen a more beautiful woman in my lifetime. The way you speak and express your mind is very refreshing. Please make more appearances 😍
You're very sweet thank you!
Tip: it is essentially a poem, listen to the words.

LOL to the plight of men confronted by unrealistic body standards in the media
The cars means no progression in American
