My favorite budget Irish Whisky is Teeling. For those who don’t feel like spending triple digits.
Solid
I don't know what batch Redbreast 27 you had, but Batch 2 tops any bourbon I've ever had... Truly spectacular with nothing ever like it! Tropical fruits in a glass.
I sent him Batch 2
Thanks for the vid! Gave it a like.
My wife recently bought Method & Madness aged in Chestnut Casks. Due to the price (~$95) and label design (modern and flashy), I was skeptical. Holy cow that whiskey is phenomenal. Sweet fruits and honey went together perfectly. One of my new favorites. Highly recommend.
The way you set this up as a blind taste test, I subscribed before I watch the video, because in my view it eliminates the ability for us to focus on brand and price. Because in my experience wild turkey wins a lot and it's not that expensive on the 101 pretty damn good! And reasonable in price. I know we're talking about Irish whiskey but the same considerations should be addressed.
Awesome review David. That's a hell of a lineup of great Irish whiskies. To your Midleton Very Rare comment about it being a little thin, and could use a little more proof, there are other MVR expressions out there. A MVR Barry Crockett which is that 92 proof you were looking for but comes with a $250 price tag, and also MVR Dair Ghaelach which is cask strength aged in a specific Irish tree oak cask, but carries an even heftier $350 price tag. I've never had them myself, but understand from others that they climb the ladder above and beyond the standard MVR. Cheers man. 🥃
Try selections from the Glendalough distillery. First craft distillery in Ireland. Also make fantastic Gin.
So happy to see you do this comparison. In fact I picked up a Yellow Spot in DC today and popped it to sip while watching. Yellow is 12 year, three cask aged blend with Ex-bourbon, sherry, and Madura casks. ABC only carrys Green and very rarely, Blue. Great video, wish my palate was as acute as yours!
Sorry, Malaga casks, not Madura. And 92 proof
I've been really digging on the Powers line as of late. Three Swallows is quite incredible for a $45-ish bottle. Gold is super solid. Holding off on tasting John Lane's until St. Patty's day!
Great review: Love the format. Subscribed.
Nice to watch and see this comparison. Blue and red are rare and expensive things. I think I’ll stick to the more affordable and readily available Jamison products.
Perfect timing as I'm cooking my corned beef and cabbage tonight because I have the time and I won't on the 17th. I've got green spot and yellow spot, would love to get a blue spot. Love the Red breast line, sipping some Laustau Edition which has a fantastic mouth feel and finish.
Thanks for video, David. I have tried the Green Spot. I need to tray the other Spots to expand my horizons. Keep up the awesome work!
Love the Spot and Redbreast lineups. Blue Spot has been my go to for special events and family gatherings. Sláinte!
Quick question. I have the opportunity to buy a Pappy 20 year for 3500.00. In your opinion is that a reasonable price?
Appreciate the videos on other whiskies besides bourbon. A friend recently got me Blue Spot and it's great. Never tried the others on this list tho.
On the 27, you were probably picking up on the ruby port barrels that whiskey soaked in. Also red spot price just jumped $40 in Ohio from last year... So stock up on a good price if you still can.
Cool lineup. What batch was the RB cask strength?
Knapppogue Castle 12 year Irish is delicious also
Opening my first bottle of Red Breast 12 and a Cask Strength Thursday. Been sitting in my cabinet for a while, will it will make me second guess my Powers 😂😂?
Redbreast 21 is remarkable. 92 proof. Unfortunately that jewel of my collection is going to pour it last on St. Patrick’s Day!
JJ Corey the Gael is top Irish around $60-70
That Blue Spot is liquid gold.
Nailed the line up!!
I will add that I DO believe you have to spend $100 and up to get good Irish. A better way to put it is that I haven’t found a bold, rich flavor for less than that. RB12, Green Spot and whatnot are “good” but don’t get much further than really “smooth” w a bit of fruit and maybe a small finish of spice.
Wooo
I have a few Irish whiskeys but there are too many good bourbons to still try it’s hard to spend my money on a Irish when they all taste around the same.
No Kentucky Owl St Patrick’s day edition?
For all that is holy! there is over 40+ independent distilleries in Ireland today why do you all keep flogging the commercial stuff?
BLASPHEMY, SON...all your offerings come from the same family!
JK...they're all spectacular pours.
