I think it's because she was her own free thinking person, saw/knows right vs wrong, & a genuine 'woman' in her right mind.

@@angelbarajas9180 Do not be so silly! Lenin had nothing to hide. It is you who says Communism does not work, because the humans are selfish.
Do you really want to give selfish people Capitalism for being able to act selfish???
Yes, capitalism creates selfish people, also dumb, raw, unfair, cheating, robbing, legally exploit others with e.g. ownership of housing, factories, businesses, land, hgoods etc. etc people. But, if you do not want this at first you must stop capitalism. At first: Socialism, a state without capitalists (at least not so big to be able to control the state and mankind. Good honorable "capitalists" Socialism even can support, because there are good capitalis as humans too. They will get all means they need to develeop good technology or services etc. Socialism means all *social* production must be owned and run by the people or there elected responsibles. So e.g. a good capitalist can turn its business into a cooperative with its workers and get state investment or research support etc.
It makes for aselfish person not much sense to want to exploit others, if it is no longer possible to do it in Socialism. Capitalist and selfish etc. minds will calm down and see the advantages of being honored and loved for their good ideas and actions for the people or socitey. Money is no longer important for te people. In communism, even money as mean to store and exchange value and the state is bannen. People rule themselfs and are able to do it.
Even capitalists are a victims of the rules of the capitalist machinery. There is world-wide deathly competiton. If they break the law to become sucessful for their company they (theoretically) could be charged or replaced because of their dirty work. Then even managers see that they are nothiing else than (formerly) well paid *proletarians* i.e. selling their skin and abilities to the corporations ot "the capital".

Dave Roberts The USSR was an Authoritarian Dictatorial state operating under the mere guise of “Communistic,” they were not. The BASIS of Leftist theory, is to NOT have an Authoritarian leader. Marxist theory does NOT allow for Authoritarian leadership. Anarchism does NOT permit leadership, period. Why do you think the USSR was Socialistic? They weren’t. North Korea is officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). Do you honestly think the DPRK is ANY of those things, just because they insist so?
Furthermore, I would like to clear up one MASSIVE misconception you youngsters seem to have. Socialism and Capitalism do NOT exist in a vacuum. They exist on a spectrum, i.e., in percentages, say 70% Capitalistic, 30% Socialistic. In the modern day: do you think the U.S.A. is some perfect beacon of Capitalism? It’s not. Here in the U.S.A., we have many systems and institutions in place that are inherently Socialistic, like public education.

In one year, the number increased by 12,000. Not enough. On the one hand, Ayn Rand makes things harder for herself. Without some von Mises, Rothbard or at least von Hayek, Arthur Block, or in my case: Alain Besançon, The Federalist writers, it is very hard to understand what she has to say. She deliberately mirrors the communist movement, of course righting everything that is wrong there, and this is not a mistake as such, but makes access to the objectivist message more difficult: because of terminology, because of the initiatic effort required to decrypt them.
Heck, it was difficult to understand the much more down to earth and concrete message of Radio Free Europe when I lived in a communist country. I was looking for solutions at George Orwell, - a tragic man with no solutions to share, Solzhenitsyn, another great man, with the wrong solutions, actually with dystopians or with the local 19th century local classical liberals.
The key issue is that we are born with feelings, we are born with the basics of selfishness imprinted in us by the selfish gene. Freedom, personal responsibility for one's life, the sacred nature of each commitment we make, are things each generation, each of us must learn, often as an exercise in reshaping our feelings, our emotional nature to comply with the objective purpose of our individual life. Learning and teaching are things we all need to do or our fellow humans, our children would lose the gains of reason. If an entire generation fails to learn, the entire mankind devolves into barbarity.

It’s interesting that you think Rand’ version of selfishness from a governmental perspective goes against the Bible. She believes that governmental socialism is evil. It’s basic premise is that you take from someone to give to someone else. It’s absolutely immoral. Biblical socialism (from the New Testament) is entered into of ones own free will and compels no one else to join. I seriously doubt Rand would be against this. As, you don’t see her campaigning against monasteries...which is the same basic premise.

The individual who is moved by altruistic instincts to voluntarily share his or her wealth to assist others cannot be in a position to do so if they had not thought of their own financial security and well being first. The poor person cannot help their poor neighbor if they are in the same economic position as the neighbor. And this could be considered selfishness in the very positive definition. I would love to give more to deserving charities but the government claims too much of my money. True charity is voluntary and not a result of government coercion. The new left wants the government to be responsible for assisting those in need but wants it to come from the wealthy. When the wealthy run out of money, give up making it or leave the country, they may change their thinking. They claim that they love the Scandinavian model but the reality of 50 to 60% income tax may make them a bit more selfish.

They already have the power, they own the government, there is no motivation to making employees lives betters. Sure, an employee could start their our own business and try to become a capitalist, but it would be impossible for everyone to do that not matter how smart and hard working everyone was. Industrialization and automation have made it that instead of needing 1,000 of businesses to service humanity, we need only a few. The majority of our population will be employees and If the basic costs of living are out pacing the wages being given, there is a problem our system has not been addressing.

But it is static. It must be activly turned on, pointed at the target; star or tiny sub-nuclear particle, configured; broad-axe or scalpel then applied in a systematic way to the target. This last is controlled by "software". That suite of software is mentality. That is part of what could be called the Human Operating System, controlled by volition and "standing order" like "Grasp this". these "system programs" have to be designed, coded, installed and edited. That which perfomrs these highest-level tasks is philosophy

What that came from was observation that some very intelligent people seemed to be a bit slow on the uptake while other, not so intelligent folks were more "agile". How I got it was this: In 1965, at age 19 I was tested at Butler Hospital psych unit by Dr. Herbert Gross and registered an IQ of 109. In 1968 I discovered, leared and accepted Objecitivism and made it mine. In March1969. Same terms as above and registered 113. In December 1973 I was tested for the same agency at Rhode Island College by Dr. Philip Very and registered 143: The onlydiscernible change was theintegration of Objectivism in my life

Wait a minute...are you an Objectivist? I don't know what this Bultler Hospital or Dr.Gross's criteria for intelligence was at the time. It's not every day I hear someone accepting the principles of Objectivism. Usually I encounter other people denouncing or making dishonest out context assertions about Objectivism and Alisa Z Rosenbaum.
I'm intrigued. What books have you read on the subject of Objectivism?

Ben Angel, Poverty is not lack of money, and it's certainlly not lack of other people's money. Lack of wealth is only a symptom of poverty. Poverty is not knowing how to create and keep one's own wealth. And the best way to create personal wealth is via free trade, the personal ownership of the means of production, and a government that secures individual rights, especially property rights. The latter of course being capitalism, which is not merely an economic system but rather a social system. That is, it's social, political and economic. Cronyism isn't the result of lack of government moderation, its the result of government interference in the affairs of free people and free trade.

While there was still the choice to opt out of the program three counties in Texas did opt out of the program. That money was kept in their own names by the county and invested much more wisely. Those people today get much much more than the meager sums handed out by the Federal Government’s SS program. Last I read about it many are receiving about the amount of their salary before they retired. Back when more was going in than out, Our illustrious federal government decided they could dip into it after the Vietnam war to pay off war debt.

Altruism is successful when limited to personal choice. Service’to’Others is the highest ideal, without sacrificing thyself. The very notion of “sacrifice” is the antithesis of StO, for the very reason said by Mrs. Ayn Rand. The only way we can help others is to aid ourselves first, and then to be ‘charitable’ with only a portion of our ‘income’ of wealth; Otherwise, said wealth dissappears.
The belief that one has the right to take the wealth from another, or use society to steal said wealth through ‘government’ is only of service’to’self. It is a service to our own mental instability or our own ego.
It is very sad that Mrs. Ayn Rand failed to ever realize this, before letting herself become compromised and used by the Swamp to try to destroy her life’s work.

john edwards, Mike Haydon... A chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Helping others with what they choose to want, is of greater benefit to yourself than any seflish act think do I. 😅
In addition, a rising tide raises all boats. The position of an ascended society is of greater security, than a couple people/families. Thus aiding others is a much more effective method of insuring your own security. 😊
This is limited to individual choice. Government benevolence programs are systemically broken by default, ‘cause the government can only ever adequetely provide a single solution to society regardless of how all of society’s problems require multi’solution answers.

Mike Haydon, yes and no, think do I. Yes service’to’self is a valid spiritual path, it is simply one dissagreeable to me. Yet we are all limited to our own distortions, and thus everything said is from that perception of mine.
The color of lavender as the “highest”, is what is meant by me. On the electromagnetic spectrum, blue is beyond the color of red by several magnitudes of power. Thus red does contain power but far less than lavender. For instance, a sunspot tricks the human eye and appears ‘dark’; Yet, it still emits a fair amount of radiation, just a lot less.
In concept, the idea that service’to’self should be just as powerful as service’to’others, is agreeable to me. However, history is bereft of any example known to me, where a human has used ‘service’to’self’ ideology and maintain a psyche free of mental illness. As an example, Charles Manson sees that the reality he interacts with is a reflection of his own soul. NoneTheLess, he makes the error of assuming that means he is the only mer’ka’ba that exists. Instead of seeing others as sharing a co’created reality among our higher self.
Perhaps all service’to’self is to see the same decision made but attribute selfish desires as the motivation, suggest do I. Yet as was mentioned, accepting that frame of mind seems to eventually break the human mind, think do I... of course, there are many things beyond the understanding of mine, but why accept s’t’s as equal to s’t’o?
In addition, the original response was to Ayn Rand’s statement that people are served poorly by altruism. Altruism is generally aligned with s’t’o, that being the reason why the rsponses written are in support primarily of s’t’o. Ayn Rand’s video supports s’t’s’ all on its own merit.

In our world politics dictates economic outcomes. What we refer to as "democracy" requires examination. Are the processing of governing participatory, representative or delegated, or some combination of all three? How are individuals chosen to serve in public office? Do the systems of law, regulation and taxation meet objective tests of justice? Or, do these systemic forces secure and protect monopolistic privileges that result in the redistribution of wealth from producers to non-producing "rentier" interests? Is there an appropriate balance under law between the protection of property and human rights? What, in fact, is property? What we produce with our labor (and whatever capital goods we own) is surely our property. What about nature? Nature is not produced by any person. Land and natural resources are provided to us free of charge. Do some have a greater claim on nature than others? If so, what is the principle involved? None of these issues has been resolved by human societies as the centuries have come and gone. The philosopher Mortimer J. Adler suggested that the extent to which just law, justly enforced, exists in a society is whether the overwhelming majority of citizens have access to the goods of decent human existence. if many people do not, one can logically conclude that there is serious injustice at play. Many thoughtful intellectuals have offered an analysis of how and why some (whether a majority or just a significant minority) have not enough when others have far more than needed. The person I have come to believe offers the greatest insights and most practical solutions was the 19th century political economy Henry George. Every thoughtful person would benefit from reading his 1879 book "Progress and Poverty." This book, which has sold millions of copies since it was first published and has been translated into almost every language, brought people as diverse as Leo Tolstoy, Albert Einstein, Sun Yat-Sen, and John Dewey to devote much of their energy to bringing Henry George's vision of the just society to reality.

The idea that capitalism and altruism cannot exist together is a lie. Altruism does not exist in a government influenced by capitalism. However, if you simply separate all private interest, corporate interest, and all monetary influence from any and all public officials or so-called public servants, then altruism can coexist with capitalism. Obviously every working individual won't be working for the good of the community but the government will work for the greater good of the community without being corrupted or influenced by the wealth of private or corporate interest. As long as laws and regulations are written for the good of the whole community then the community is still altruistic in nature with the benefit of personal incentive. Most countries know this. You hear about them in the news as being corrupt due some form of bribery or officials taking money under the table in some form. Here in America we call that lobbying. We made it legal. What do you know? It's fucked up and everybody wants to blame it on capitalism. Capitalism is great. As long as the people making the rules are doing so with the greater good in mind.

I never said capitalism isn't great. I simply said we have to find a way to stop private interest from influencing public servants. Capitalism would benefit if the people holding public office in all branches of government would be allowed to write/pass/uphold laws which are based on the good of the nation as a whole, and the economy as a whole without pesky pressure of those who contributed to their campaigns. We need to eliminate super-pac's. We need campaign finance overhaul!

Though the United States was founded on the same doctrines of Individualism as elaborated in the Declaration of Independence and The Bill of Rights, due to the influence of mystic i.e., religious and Collectivist i.e., Socialist/Communist ideas, it may at times deviate from its path of individual liberty. In such cases, Ayn Rand' s work shall stand as a lighthouse.
