I picked my last pepper yesterday! I did containers in my back garden and it's been so warm here the pepper plants are just now dying off. My Banana Supreme plants have produced like monsters and I ate a fresh banana pepper with my breakfast this morning. I am so grateful for this garden this year. It has surprised me so much at how resilient and productive it's been. My biggest lesson this year: Don't cut down your plants prematurely! They may have a lot of production left in them!
I just love those Greenhouses. The rain falling on the coverings sounds so relaxing. It is trial and error in your Greenhouse Wanda. It's ok if you planted a little early. You didn't know that the warm weather was going to stick around longer. You all are doing great. Stay safe and well. God Bless Y'all.
Just wonderful! I know you both are overjoyed! I grew okra for the first time here on the farm and WOW! You are right! They are like trees! Thanks for sharing and teaching!! God Bless all you do! ~jc
Wow, really exciting to see what you’re able to grow in there! Great side by side experiment 🤗 As a northern grower it’s interesting to see what folks in other parts are growing
I know I just made a post and I know I am in completely the wrong zone as you guys but I love watching you guys persevere and I know I cannot grow exactly the same things you are but you're giving me ideas and I think it's wonderful I love your god-given gifts and your God given ideas we'll just go from there on this channel love you you guys please take care
Beans/peas/tomatoes have whats referred to as "perfect" blooms meaning they can self pollinate and don't really require bug help. If you go through and give the plants a nice little tickle/shake every day in the green house you should be fine. I'm not saying bees and other pollinating bugs don't help they will, Especially bumble bees, they love beans, but giving your inside beans a good gentle shake will definitely help the pods fill out. When planted outside beans naturally get moved about in the breeze. Now I was having problems with my tomatoes many years ago during a drought. They were getting enough water from my irrigation but the lack of winds and bugs due to weird weather was causing fruit drop due to poor pollination. A gardener on the forum told me to shake the fencing I had them on at least once a day. I thought he was having one over on me but I did it anyhoo, at that point I was game to try anything. With in 2 weeks I had fruit set that stayed. And while I had been getting a few beans setting it wasn't as good as normal either. Well the fence shaking also ended up shaking the beans(pole) i noticed a huge difference in bean pod set too. I shake all my fence/cattle panel tunnel all the time now while the plants are flowering. I know its not super scientific lol but it does work lol I'm planning on ordering some poli for my little hoop house. Hubby will have to find a new shed for his mower lol. We lost the plastic about 5 years ago and he popped a tarp on and has been using it for the mower but after seeing how well your plants are I'm taking it back. 😉🤣
God Bless you both. I try to have a garden, but my husband doesn't like to eat veggies. So he doesn't help with anything. But I'm stubborn enough to keep trying to do what I can. I can't work like I used to, so just work for a while then take a break. I bought a cheap 15 x 7 ft. Greenhouse this fall and have it up. Will see if it makes it threw the winter.
I still have lettuce growing in a container sitting out exposed in my garden. We have had several hard frosts and a good 2inches of snow. So glad last year I harvested lots of seeds from them.
I love the queen dome!! Mistakes and mistiming is how I learn. King dome is just too perfect.. 😁 ( only one of you!!! Lololol that comment made me smile.. you guys have done SO much this year!! )
Oh my, I love the sound of that rain. Were you able to save the banana tree that was toppled by the hurricane? If Danny's greenhouse will not be closed, will you put screening on the open door to stop problem insects? Blessings to you both.
I love seeing all you do with your greenhouses. It gets the creative juices flowing. I don't have the space for a large greenhouse and can't afford the kit but I have an idea for a build that I have started and plan on working on during the winter months weather permitting. we'll see how it all works out in the spring but I'm hoping to end up with 8x16 ft of growing space that I can use for season extension. Hey Danny and Wanda, I designed a mini greenhouse for people with very limited space that holds heat well. Materials cost about 200 dollars. Tried to paste a picture of it here but was not able to do so.
Great instructional tour , thanks for taking the time to share , as well as sharing your growing methods . Really appreciated that tip on forcing the peaches to go dormant , will try that with mine . Glad that you , and Miss Wanda had minimal damage from all the storms the Homestead has been subjected to. Really enjoy following your channel, I've been learning a lot from the both of you . Continued prayers and best wishes to you both .
I put a couple peppers in pots and brought them to the porch when it frosted and they are still going! I would love to get a greenhouse. I have been considering a spot for one. Trying to swing it financially is the key!
I am so glad that you are sharing your green house experiences. My husband is going to build one for me. I'm learning so much in advance from y'all. Thanks.
Your bean leaves are being eaten by the larvae of the Long Tailed Skipper butterfly... maybe the same on your peanuts? It is a blue and brown butterfly that lays it's eggs, very busy, and an interesting one to witness. The tiny caterpillars did quite a bit of damage to the leaves on my pole beans this summer, however I still had great production, as most were consumed by birds. They will also eat Kudzu, so perhaps if you have that noxious weed on your homestead, pick the affected leaves, and set them out there to complete their lifecycle? Loved your double greenhouse tour!!
Since watch your videos of the green house I have cattle panels so I'm going to make myself some green houses and experiment in them with different growths I'm hope to put a heating system in one of the for growing in the winter using a wood stove because of our cold winters thank you for these videos you guys are giving me more incouragement to try it thank you
I'm sorry I am in Ohio but my grandma 40 years ago swore by red Haven peaches they were the best flavor and easiest can and that kind of stuff if you can do it go for it I love you guys
Its Awesome seeing all the beautiful plants..I wonder if the white cover helps attract the bugs more then the black cover..Another great video..thanks guys..!!
Your pepper plants look great, I heard you can actually over winter pepper plants, even in cool climates like mine. Give it a try, even if they lag in producing, give em a chance to pop back in production if it drops. just to see how it works.
Out in our gardens, we're still harvesting tomatoes, peppers and okra. A part of a butternut squash. Is blooming. And, I've gotten two squash off a vine that was missed. Maybe winter will be as the old ones say " the winter in the spring " Peace
No okra here, my volunteer squash plants are still doing since we didn't have a frost yet, and my pepper plants still have blossoms, tomatoes I pretty much cut out, except one, getting tired of tomatoes😊 have the umpteenth pot of sauce cooking....
