Honestly, REALLY excellent interview on both sides. Good questions, good answers. Professional but also comfortable. Definitely one of the best 1 on 1s I can recall recently.
TY Joppa. TY Zaide. I love how the geometry gives the feeling of discovery and arrival without the time sink of a long journey. You did it Joppa! I hope this attention to detail is given to every zone. I love the art style change. I am more confident of Pantheon's release than ever before. I appreciate that you recognize the sweet spot of stylism/realism for immersion isn't there yet. I'm not sure if lighting alone will hit that sweet spot but I believe it will be impactful and I'm excited to see the update in a few weeks. I love that you are focusing on character model refining next to reach that sweet spot. That would be my suggestion too. This game looks so beautiful with heavy rain I would love to see it more often. The light rain should be heavier and more common and the heavy rain a little heavier. If the game is being made for 2-3 hour play sessions, I want to see it rain at least once in 2 Terminus days. It rains more often IRL and this is a fantasy world. Seasons are a great idea. It's going to take more descoping to get this game out in 3 years, maybe only 1 continent and no racial starting cities, and that's OK. I hope all the rest of your great ideas come to fruition in the first expansion if not before. Underwater exploration, taming mounts, and further fleshing out dispositions and traits all sound amazing. Excited to see the game being made. TY for the interview.
+1 for medium sized raids. 20-30 would be perfect. It feels big, but not so big youre an ant in an ant army (where 10 are AFK ants anyways). 24-ish makes it so everyone feels important and their impact is felt or lost. Imagine its easier to GameDesign for too. Also its just easier to make happen, and thus the Guilds are healthier because youre closer and more familiar with the players. Less time recruiting more ant drones, and medium sized raids are more future resilient for the ebbs and flows of server population; Pantheon will have a healthy playerbase im sure but what happens when World of Warcraft 2 is announced...
Raids should scale. We have to look past the old ways. Start raids at 36 (or whatever), and increase the hardness or for 48, 60, 72 with higher abundance of items.
12-24m raids. 36+ is just exhausting honestly. If the raid sizes are smaller than guilds won't blow up to the size of hundreds of people per guild. 24m is 4 raid teams for a guild of 100 people. That already seems excessive to me especially if raids aren't instanced in a way where everyone can do them every week.
40 man raids was epic though in classic. Managing 40 people was the real challenge. i can see how open raid zones might have some challenges for sure. I heard they might add some instanced raids and boss fights. Like the thief in the crystal cave we saw pre pre access.
@@MaDmanex100 trying to organize 40 people to do anything is already a challenge in and of itself. If 40 people sign up you expect 35 to actually show up.
The people wanting huge raids don't seem to understand there's not enough hardcore raiders to do that kind of content. Even the 40 man raids in WoW were only done by maybe 2-5% of the population. That is a lot of content for a very small minority of the playerbase. 12-24 man raids see a lot more participation (over 10% of players). Even talking about raids at this point is madness though since Pantheon doesn't even have proper dungeons in yet.
me personally Id like to se a little less focus on this pledge tier is $30 and this tier is $10,000 one time payment, and this tier..... As long as this has been going on are we just pulling a Steve Bannon here an this is Milkquest or we releasing a game here ??
The major issue for Pantheon has always been releasing an actual playable game. Now that they have begun down that road it's got to be frustrating for those $1000-$10,000 pledge people. I've seen some of them complaining that people are playing early access without having to pay so much. But the thing is...the game never should have taken this long to get to this point. It's insane to me that they are even going forward with this project at all when they are so far behind! They spent my $100 many, many years ago lol.
In regards to the raid size, I actually enjoy smaller teams. Whenever we raided in EQ, it's always slow paced due to gathering, waiting for others, and actually there's always a bunch of people afk during raids and it didn't even make a difference, except they were able to get loot. I felt similar in WoW 25man raids. My favorite was doing 10man raids... I think 12-18 would be perfect honestly. It's just a matter of how it would be handled without instancing, could be tricky.
The big questions we all want to hear now is, are you going to try to exploit this game? Are you going to wish to be caught when you do? Also are you working to make 3rd party software to automate your playtime so you can have the obvious edge over those of us who dont?
All original classes have been seen in previous builds in 10 years with the exception of Summoner. I do agree though, after 10 years it is all a bit shocking to not be that far along.
hasnt been 10 years. starting the dev timer at the announcement of the Kickstarter ... is the sign of a salty dumdum. touch some grass, go play your favorite game and then get a better pastime than trolling Pantheon.
@@turinhorse Bro Aradune literally posted on 7/9/14 Pantheon is "fully back in development mode". Why would you even try to lie about this is beyond me when it's so easily proven that development for the game BEGAN IN 2014!
I found it rather amusing how some people compare the time development with a "failed" kickstarter MMOrpg and a AAA, its almost as they don't grasp the undertaking it is to make one. Just imagine that the team sizes are vastly different, and "judge" accordingly. I think VR is doing a great job.
Can we just first talk about how the creative director is sitting in front of a green screen and no one is taking the sec to actually use it for a BACKGROUND. game charges 1k to play lol no thanks, what if there are more then 1 person in my household that wants to play it and have their own account lol expect people to pay you thousands of dollars to waste hundreds even thousands of hours of their life ? gtfoh. great job zaide
Yeah it's really something else to see them just chillin when the game is way overdue. We are talking about "seasons" of testing now. That's not what the game needs. The game needs 6 zones, 4 dungeons, 1 raid. It needs to launch in early access by 2025. Unless the devs are getting a ton of money of course, in which case everything I heard was false and they can just keep chilling collecting those fat donos.
This was great, thanks to both Joppa/Zaide for doing this
Great interview!
Awesome. Thanks so much for this fantastic interview. I'm enjoying Pantheon so much. Great informative interview

Aye, this certainly worked great for Rift. Was great fun doing both their 24- and 12-man raids 😊
Appreciate a balanced take while still getting hype on the little things. Liking what I am seeing lately.
Good interview. New and interesting questions.
Raids should scale. We have to look past the old ways. Start raids at 36 (or whatever), and increase the hardness or for 48, 60, 72 with higher abundance of items.
36 seems like a very reasonable top limit for raids. 24 is probably the sweet spot.
Advice to people being asked questions: Alternate "that's a good question" with "I'm glad you asked that" or "that's a clever observation".
I like the raid question. I would be happy with it not exceeding 40.
How the warrior ingame haven't seen that class yet. Well since art style change
